redvip,
We would also walk up and down Main Street. We had English and spanish tracts and mags as our town had a lot of Latinos living there.
I hated every minute of it, preferred laundromats.

Did any of you ever do street work? Standing on corners holding up the Awake and Watchtower magazines? All hours, all weathers? Street Work reminds me of Randy Crawford's "Street Life" - I've modified the lyrics...
Street Work
Because that's one place we can go
Street Work
Because there's no one that I know
Street Work
You can see it in my face
Street Work
I've a hundred tracts to place
You people never see
The reason that I'm here
I have to count my time
This work is such a sham
This life of mine that's played
Is just a masquerade
The way I dress and talk
This isn't who I am
Street Work
I can't run away from time
Street Work
It'll be over when it's nine
Street Work
I'm starting to get cold
Street Work
This message is getting old
I'm not trying to make a sale
Paradise is no fairy tale
Just take these magazines
But they politely decline
They smile and look at me
I watch them as they go
But time is getting on
There's a group to meet at nine
Street Work
Street Work
Street Work
Oh street work
I do Street Work
Because that's one place we can goTruthseeker

Rebranding of the Watchtower to JW.org - how long in the works?
by truthseeker inthe transformation from watchtower to jw.org is nothing short of remarkable.. animated cartoons (caleb and sophia), the new jw.org slogan, international convention websites (featuring previously unthinkable entertainment in the kingdom hall) - how long do you think this has been in the works for?.
i feel very uneasy about what is happening - it's so sudden, seems like it all happened within the space of a year.. i sense some intelligence about all this, as if it has been some carefully orchestated performance - to dazzle and distract.. the kingdom ministry of 1999 was totally against the internet and now they seem to embrace it along with tablets and smartphones.. why the sudden change?
do you think it is anything to do with social media?.

The transformation from Watchtower to JW.org is nothing short of remarkable.
Animated cartoons (Caleb and Sophia), the new JW.org Slogan, International Convention websites (featuring previously unthinkable entertainment in the Kingdom Hall) - how long do you think this has been in the works for?
I feel very uneasy about what is happening - it's so sudden, seems like it all happened within the space of a year.
I sense some intelligence about all this, as if it has been some carefully orchestated performance - to dazzle and distract.
The Kingdom Ministry of 1999 was totally against the Internet and now they seem to embrace it along with tablets and smartphones.
Why the sudden change? Do you think it is anything to do with social media?
Is it to attract new recuirts? Keep existing ones? If so, then they are not really interested in "truth" but more about retaining their existing membership above all else.
Is it a case of "if you can't beat them, then join them"?

Jesus was a false prophet?

In that case, what about the other part of the fulfillment?

The problem is there is no demarcation between one tribulation and the next and we don't even know if there are TWO tribulations or if everything Jesus said about his generation would happen in ONE tribulation.
If the sun and moon did not give their light that would be an astrological event of huge importance and it would have been documented.

Jehovah's Witnesses - the Fourth Branch of Judaism
by truthseeker ineverything about the jws points exclusively to jehovah, the god of the old testament.. jesus hardly gets a mention.
they can't ignore him completely but isn't it interesting that the only publication they produced about jesus, doesn't even have his name on it.
it's simply called "the greatest man who ever lived".

I was watching the "Caleb" animation documentary on JW.org. Not once did I hear the word Jesus. Not once. And at the end, some young kids said, "Thank you Jehovah"
It's really freaky to watch.
Look at some other ways JWs are similar to Old Testament Judaism
Approach to God
JWs are taught that Jesus is not their mediator. That we have the Governing Body as a mediator. We can only be friends of Jehovah through his undeserved kindness.
Christianity teaches that everyone can have a relationship with Jesus and he can be freely approached, that God is his father.
Works or Grace?
JWs are a "works based" religion. Even if you spent 90 hours a month talking about Jehovah, it matters not if you don't hand in your time sheet. Only a business would require its employees to report their time and only a business would promote an employee for working his butt off. An elder once told me that the "Circuit Overseer won't look at any brother whose hours are less than 10". You have to preach their message or risk being labelled blood guilty for not warning the wicked, i.e. anyone who is not a JW.
Christianity - we are saved by grace through faith. Ephesians 2:8 says "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

Disfellowed on 7/16/14 for sending a letter to my former congregation
by spbondgirl007 init's been quite a while since i lasted posted anything on jwn.
i was in hiding previously, but only because i wanted to avoid the shun gun until i had the opportunity to tell my former congregation what i think about the org./gb.
i last attended a meeting over 2.5 years ago but it wasn't until june--when i earned my bachelor's degree--that i finally had the time to collect my thoughts and get them down on paper...i decided to write my letter in a style i felt would be most appealing to my target audience--jw's still under gb mind control --in the hope that at least a few would read it and actually "think".

Notice how in the elders' response to her, Jesus does not even come into the equation. It is Jehovah this and Jehovah that.
JWs are the fourth branch of Judaism. You have to "approach" the GB as your mediators to be accepted by their god Jehovah (and Jesus)

spbondgirl007,
That was a great letter and excellent read.
How many of the 150 recipients responded and favourably?

I found it a few months after the site went live, around July 2000.
That was where I found the "Daniel's Prophecy" bookmarker with the study schedule on the back.
