as of now iam making an unbiased examination of evolution.
however one thing keeps me hanging on to the belief of a supreme spirit being; the existence of spirits.
i have heard countless accounts of people who have experienced frightening encounters with evil forces.

reading the oct 1 1953 wt about gog of magog because of the posts about the changes of identity.. basic question:.
why would satan (whether gog or not) be cast to the earth?.
why not cast him to quadrant 4 of the galaxy?.
I never understood why God would throw down Satan and his army of demons to this planet knowing full well the havoc they would cause on the human race.
It's like opening all the prisons in the world and letting the prisoners out.
God could have put Satan on Mars, but for some reason he chose Earth, hence the scripture: "Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath"
The irony is we are to ask God in prayer to deliver us from the very Devil he threw down to this planet. I just don't get it. Something is wrong here.

Cofty,
I can accept that, however this remark made me chuckle
Evolution does not contradict the existence of a god. It just leaves a creator god with nothing to do.
We assume a creator God has nothing to do, but we don't know that.

Finkelstein,
Yes, somewhat in agreement. Funnily enough, I remember arguing against evolution when I was 12 years old in a science class. It was Adam and Eve.
On another note, but still loosely affiliated with evolution and man, do you think this theory would satisfy creationists?
There were already humans living on Earth before Adam was created. Where Genesis says, "Let us make man in our image", it wasn't talking about God(s) creating man from scratch but improving an existing human couple by tinkering with their DNA.
It would give a satisfactory answer as to where Cain got his wife from and why he wanted to build a city for more than two people.

Nicolaou,
Thank you. Yes, I cannot establish truth using my own subjective experience but I can't deny my experience either, it's all I have.

Nicolau,
It's more complicated than just simple questions.
For instance, I believe that man is older than the Biblical Adam. That puts me at odds with belief that Adam was the first man.
So despite my differences in theological doctrine, I do believe in a divine presence. I'm just not sure what it is.
The reason I believe is more complicated than a "how did we get here" question. It has to do with my own personal experiences.

I believe in a first cause for the origin of life.
I believe that each life form reproduces according to its kind.
I believe that macro-evolution is possible and allows for variation within each species.
If we came from apes, then what are apes still doing in zoos?
If new facts came to light that proved the origin of life had no cause, I would be willing to change my beliefs, but until you provide me with positive proof and a preponderance of evidence that the universe came about by accident, I will believe in a first cause.
You don't have to be religious to believe in a Creator. Someone born in an atheist household might one day ask how the universe came to be - and then they go looking for answers in religion.
I have to question some who are so insistent that evolution is the answer to everything.
Would it be so bad to consider the possibility of a God(s)?

It does even the playing field somewhat now that the Society has a visible presence on the web.
It will be a battle of online ideologies now.
