I think it was 2001 when the site went apostate. I first visited the site in 2000 and it still seemed to be proJW.
All the JW sites started off good and slowly went apostate.
Who remembers Witnesses.net?
i was curious because i had heard simon was a jw when he started this forum.
i was looking through the old posts, but couldn't really pinpoint one that was a "turning point" so-to-speak.
simon must have left the j-dubs at some point.

the article that caught my eye as i was thumbing through it was on page 18 entitled "a peaceable people defend their good name".
this was all about the issues being addresssed in russia and how the j.w.
's were being oppressed/repressed.. but if you look in the box to the left under "a note to the citizens of russia", you will see that they quote the scripture in luke 12:2 "there is nothing carefully concealed that will not be revealed, and secret that will not become known.".
The Watchtower have perfected the art of lying and doublespeak.
Their literature is extremist. Just because they don't get involved in war or violence, this does not detract from the fact that they break up families.
it was a beautiful, sunny day.
i was in the supermarket doing an early morning shop when i see an old friend of the family, a jw sister.. she asked me if i'd gone to the memorial and i told her no.
she said that the end is so close what with all the earthquakes and brother truthseeker, you need to come back to jehovah otherwise you will die and so will your children.

Because I know this sister and she is a friend I didn't say anything. I did get an invite to the special talk. I've read about people here having conversations like this, and until today I didn't really give it much thought, but to be told you and your children will die if we don't serve the Watchtower God is deeply disturbing.
so let me get this straight.
when christ makes his return, all faithful christians are just going to disappear snd get whisked away to heaven, right?.
do we have to stay here on the earth with all the earthquakes and the bad economy?
From what I've read, there are two raptures.
The first is for those who are going to heaven, number unknown - they will be transformed instantly into a spirit and rule with Christ.
The second rapture is for those who will inherit the earth but they will be taken onboard rapture vessels while the Earth is experiencing the bowls of wrath.
If you think of Noah's Ark as a vessel, a flotilla which saved eight people, then the Earth itself will receive so much destruction that the only way for the remnant to survive Armaggedon is to go somewhere other than Earth.
If you have seen the movie 2012 or Knowing you will know what I'm talking about.
And no, I don't smoke crack, it's just an alternative idea to the many rapture beliefs out there.
the worldwide recruiting attempt of jehovah’s witnesses to bring their religious message to the deaf using sign language can be viewed as something of a mixed bag.
while they strive to communicate it using the right methods, they convey an illusionary message that is detrimental in countless ways.[1].
jehovah’s witnesses international “deaf ministry” as directed by the watch tower bible and tract society, inc., is no small feat because there are over 200 distinct sign languages in the world.
This is very interesting.
I attended a sign language class for some weeks sponsored by a local congregation. The language course lasted about 3 months.
It was expected that after the class finished, those in attendance would make the effort to join a deaf congregation.
We learned specialized sign language for theospeak, that is the signs for elder, ministerial servant etc.
I remember seeing a big shot elder who came all the way from Florida to tell us how marvellous this loving provision from Jehovah was.
There was homework given at the end of each class. We started with letters and eventually progressed towards introductions for use on the ministry. Each class was about two hours long, then we would spend about that time in the ministry, but only witnessing to deaf people.
The search for deaf people was vigorous - they would use telephone directories and other sources of information to build a list. If the witnesses saw a "Deaf Child" sign on the street, they would call at every house on that street to locate where the deaf child lived.

Sabastious,
I agree, Inner Light was a really good episode, though my favorites are The Best of Both Worlds and Yesterday's Enterprise.

Wow, Jean-Luc is on the forum :)
I grew up on Star Trek and loved all the different spin offs but my favouite was The Next Generation and DS9.
I wished they had finished the remaining Enterprise seasons.
It's been six years since Enterprise finished and other than the recent movie not much has happened.
The trouble with the Voyager and Enterprise is there was little in the way of exploring new worlds just for the sake of it - most episodes were a continuuation of the previous epsiode unlike classic Trek where each episode was distinct.

Bizarre footage has emerged of a group of Scientologist 'squirrel busters' who fitted cameras to their heads to 'stalk' one of its defectors.
Marty Rathbun, once one of its highest ranking members, left the church a few years ago but continued to practise independently.
He was reported to be in on the secrets of the church and 'audited' some of high profile members such as Tom Cruise and he was also used to fend of investigative journalists.
growing up in the fifties and sixties, stories of demonic possession were prevalant in the watchtower and awake.
i was terrified.
we were told they would bother you if you were faithful, but also if you fell away.
