i went to college (although i guess thats ok now), premarital sex, smoked bud in college not anymore though cuz i'm in the military, thats another one. started celebrating holidays since my daughter was born. swear on occasion, get drunk on occasion, have strong political convictions which i would like to do something about one day, dont salute the flag except in umiform cause i am nto into worshiping anything. watch whatever movie i damn well please, read whatever i want listen to whatever music i want. if i were to see a jdub that i was friends with i would say whats up? if they ignored me i'd probably say something smart ass like "great job following jesus's example". basically i just try to be a good person, good father and good husband other than that i could care less what people especially jdubs think.

JW Urban Legends
by Azalo indid any of you hear any of the urban legends that jw's used to scare people into being deathly afraid of demons?
for example i remeber hearing that a child brough a smurf doll to a meeting and upon hearing the name jehovah uttered it got up and walked out.

Assemblies...conventions...special days...
by NikL inthere is a phenomenon in dub dom that i have always hated.
the circuit/district convention.. people will spend hard earned money, use up any vacation they may have to travel to a city they don't really have any particular reason to see to sit for entire days and listen to the same b.s.
they could sit and listen to at the meetings in their home kingdom hall.

I stumbled upon this thread when doing a search, sorry to dredge it up but I think its classic. I actually always looked forward to the assemblies because they were like our family vacations every year and being that we were in a spanish congregation it usually meant going somewhere at a few hours away. My favorite thing was staying at the hotels, going to the pool, eating out. One time when I was about 12 or 13 we had to go to montreal for the assembly and a friend and i stumbled upon a hardcore porn channel on the regular cable, needless to say we made up excuses as to why we didnt want to go to eat with everyone else. the actual assemblies were fun cause my little gang of friends would walk around after the finest girls even though we never had the balls to talk to them, find excuses to go to the bathroom. once i got into my rebellious stage i would even just go outside and do laps around the hall. all in all a good time.

we didnt really have any of those elders that people hate in my congregation, maybe thats a reason our congregation was considered weak. I guess my dad the elder is the only one ive ever hated becuase he wasnt a good father, didnt allow me to have a normal childhood, etc. but i've come to peace with him and we're cool now. i do hope that they all open their eyes leave and try to take whole congregations with them, that would be awesome.

I told my parents from the time my first daughter was a new born that I did not want them to talk to her about religion whatsoever and they said they wouldn't. they love seeing my babies and i have had no problems. granted they are still babies and they might try something when they get a little older but i will just have to remind them of our wishes. i agree with the poster that says that you shouldnt practice the very thing you hate about the jw's and if they persist threten to report the problem to the elders, they have to respect ur wishes as parenst according to their own rules

I got out because I realized that I just didn't have faith like the rest of my family. I was just going through the motions because that is what I was taught to do and expected to do since the day I was born. I pretty much realized that I was atheist or probably agnostic, the truth is I really don't care. Its how I try to explain it to my family, I don't care I feel no need to look for a higher power. Now that I have been out for a few years I see all of the contradictions that I didnt see back then. but also I think that it is a problem that affects all religions, personally I think that organized religion is something that man uses to control other men I hate all ORGANIZED religions. I think practicing religion, if you so desire, is something personal that no one else needs to be invoIved in.

women would wear their fanciest dressess, the men would get a haircut and practice their line should they get a chance to speak to him.

ok a little background, this is my 1st post. I was raised JW until I just stopped going altogether when I was 18, (I had informed my parents I wanted to leave when I was 17 but they made me keep going until I turned 18) anyways I am 25 now and I feel completely out of the JW loop even though my parents and my 3 sisters are still in. I dont hate JW's but I do hate the religion and religion in general. I think it is amazing how intelligent people can fail to see all the problems with the organization. I hope that there is a scandal that rocks the religion to its core, ie "the governing body embezzles millions" or "JW President has 8 concubines". By the way does anyone with inside knowledge or otherwise know of any conspiracy theories concerning governing body or WTS?
