I have several friends in ISKCON (Hare Krishnas). They are basically the Jehovah's Witnesses of Hinduism. Ostensibly the Hare Krishnas are a Vaishnev group, however until recently many ISKCON followers were not actually allowed into traditional Vaishnev temples in India. They aren't as hard a sell as they used to be, but they have asked me to join before. Personally I wouldn't, for a number of reasons, which have much to do about me as a person, but also a lot about them as an organization. Still, they have had all of the same scandals that the Witnesses have had and then some. (child abuse, mind control, micromanagement of its members, corrupt administration, fear tactics). Interesting thing about ISKCON is it seems to have been making a move, albeit slowly, towards normalization. I can only hope that the Witness GB does something similar for the sake of its followers.
I tend to be eclectic relgiously, and I'm not afraid to visit or even join some religion for awhile to learn more about it. So what some people might call cults, I would be more wary of calling a cult. In my opinion (for what its worth) the word cult is an overused term, and one that is especially used by Christian fundamentalists to ward people away from other religious traditions. On the other hand, there really are some dangerous groups out ther.

It was the Law of Karma. He was cruel , and was so enrapt in wanting to destroy this creature that he did not take any safety precautions. That matter is over and only he has to deal with it.
On a side topic, spud-guns are cool It's a shame a lot of states are outlawing them. The wildest one I have seen is this mulitbarrel gatling-potato gun. It can REALLY shoot a lot of spuds.

Do You Remember the Day of Your Baptism?

I was 16 on a September 16th day. Me and a friend had both been studying that year to get baptized. I remember the date because people kept telling me it was the most important day of my life and I'd never forget it. My friend and I sat together on the front row of the candidates section. When they ask the questions or baptism, there is always some jerk-off with a microphone shoving it in one person's face so everyone can hear that one person's answer. That was me. A really loud gung ho "YES". That was kind of embarassing. I was very shy. I remember seeing some really young kids (like some of you who were 9) and I remember thinking that was WAY too young to be making this kind of decision. The place we had our assemblies in was part of a sports complex and had an indoor swimming center, so that is where the dunking took place.
Why do the baptizers wear t-shirts? anyway, it was over and done and I felt pretty good about it, but nothing really changed. Within three weeks I was in seriousl trouble for some busness involving a "worldly" girl. If I'd stayed out of that pool it would have been pretty much ok. After that I wrote "September 16" in the front cover of my bible to look at every meeting, cause I knew without reminding myself it was important, I'd forget it. I felt guilty about that for years.

Berten: last I heard of, David Thomas of Pere Ubu is a JW.
hillary_step: No I am from USA. i'm just somewhat eclectic. I seem to have a lot of UK music in my collection, more then anything else, really. It started when I was a kid.. I was 12 years old having Level 42 alblums sent across the pond to me, because I couldnt (yet) get them here. No one in this part of the world even knows who Billy Bragg is.

I decided to be wierd and use all Witness and X-Witness artists for a list, instead. Some of its about being a witness, but the rest who knows.
1: Eye-Ma-Gettin Larry Graham .. a very strange very scary Armageddon number. Mostly a wild bass solo (the man is the greatest bassist who ever lived), but he starts yelling "Don't Let Armageddon Get your Spirrrittt! then a baby screams")
2: This Masquarade - George Benson. I don't care if he's a JW or not. That guitar playing will get him into heaven on its own.
3: The War: Prince. An even scarrier 20 minute opus which is vaguely apocalyptic ("Do you God/Do you love your government as much as you loved god/If the government/If the government/If the government wants to put a microchip in your neck/do you still love your country/")
4: Man in the Mirror: Michael Jackson (I wonder if he looks, anymore)
5: Never Can Say Goodbye: Jackson 5 (apologies for not getting Janet and LaToya on this list)
6: Selena: Dreaming of You. Well she got a JW Funeral. Might as well throw her in this list.
7: My Theory of Spontaenous Simultude: Pere Ubu
8: Black Cloud of Islam: Roy Harper (ok its a stretch, but his mom was one)
9: Look at Me: Geri Halliwell (I'd really rather not)
10: Down Ass Chick: Ja Rule (he wore the suit, he knocked on doors, he qualifies)

***
"I'm the last meal cook, Sir. The Prisoners ask for what they fancy for their last meal"- Miss Ploppy
"And you cook for them what they desire?" Blackadder
"Oh yes sir, provided they ask for sausages. Otherwise they tend to get a tiny bit depressed. Sausages is all I got." -Miss Ploppy

Considered Suicide ?
by Guest 77 inafter reading about the two jw's committing suicide and larc's comments, how many of us have considered suicide?
i saw a movie about a man trying every trick in the book to committ suicide and failed.
it got to the point in the movie that you know his next new attempt would fail.. most likely some people prefer to die without committing suicide.

I considered it several times. Several in my family have attempted it, but to date no one has been successful.
