strangely enough I remember a talk where a comment was made that "jumping over a broomstick" would be an innapropriate act to perform during the ceremony. They didn't site pagan origin or anything, just that it was a worldly custom. (As are wedding rings, wedding dresses, $500 cake, etc.)
I suppose this was another way of making sure that African-American witnesses practised the proper degree of cultural self loathing to satisfy the elders.

I saw the speech live and it didn't strike me as angry then, nor does it now. He just came off as an exuberant smack-talking athlete before the next game. I'd support Dean if I thought he was electable, but I live in the south, and there's just no way he can stand a chance down here, unforunately. If you're going to run an unelectable, might as well make it Kucinich or Sharpton and at least have fun.
Clark could win southern states as long as he doesnt pick a running mate like Hillary.

i only know a handful of witnesses, but i do know several ex-witnesses.

Whether he gets the nomination or not, Dean has a valid function in this race, just as Kucinich does, being that they represent the Democrat wing of the DNC. Kerry is just a republicrat, much like Lieberman. Kerry might well appeal to centrist republican soccer moms, but Republicans are going to vote on party lines all the way down the card this time.
I still think if Kucinich didn't look like Alfred E. Newman he'd stand a better chance. His strategy is pretty interesting. He knows he won't win a single primary, but he is counting on getting SOME of the delegates from each state (which he did in Iowa). In a brokered Convention, its conceivable, though a long shot, the man in last place could actually end up the nominee. Anyway I digress. Dean wouldn't be my favorite candidate for president, but anyone who was for the Iraqi conquest, I don't care much about.

when you were out door knocking as kids, did the people who's doors you knocked on ever tell your parents that they shouldn't bring you out door knocking in the freezing cold, or did they ever ask you why you were out door knocking when you're so young?.
i remember both questions coming up fairly often since in england it is always winter, never forget the way this one old guy bent down and asked me why i was there and i gave the answer 'i'm here because i want to be' which was a total bold faced lie, but it was what we taught to say.. anyone else experience this?

No actually I was unctuous.. the creepy kid who acted cute but was not cute and knew that no one thought he was cute. so I succeeded in placing magazines through the generation of discomfort. 'I'll buy these magazines off this creepty unctuous child actor, just so he gets the hell off my doorstep.' perhaps that's what they though.
Anyway it worked and it paid for colas and "debbie snack cakes" on break, the solitary pleasure. Dad paid for the magazines, and I never gave any of the sales to the contribution box. I figured god could make a big pile of gold if he wanted to, if the funds dried up. How lazy of him!

as i was accessing my files on strike9 i noticed what i thought was a watchtower cover in the random files window.. i checked it out and found it was a user called 'gita' the files have public access so i don't think i'm breaking any laws by posting this.. i thought it was pretty funny and worth sharing (if you're watching, gita, forgive me!).
