Ive said more or less everything about me at one point or another, and a great deal in one particular post. I dont know why I did. It doesn't really matter, as I wasn't well known when I was a witness, or probably remembered by more then a handfull.

How Many Reveal Themselves Totally On This Board?
by minimus insome feel that you should put out a history of who you are, what your life was and is like now and express it in a very simple way so that everyone can "know" you.
we've had posters say they were elders, elder's sisters, hurt jws, etc.
it could all be a little fantasy.

A question for Christians, bible thumpers, and heathens.
by gumby inare we punished for our parents' sins?
exodus 20:5 "for i the lord thy god am a jealous god, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
" (repeated in deuteronomy 5:9)

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. If the Pentatuch is to be taken literally then tens of thousands of liberated slaves were killed by their liberator for crimes randing from demanding representative government, to complaining about the food, or in one case, to mentioning that they were better off in Egypt.
But they had the bright and happy prospect of committing genocide on the peoples of Canaan after 40 years of wandering around the Sinai Penninsula. Maybe Isis or Baal would've given them a better deal .

Looooong Prayers!
by BigJ inok, who remembers all those long prayers?
especially at the district conventions!.
we had our convetions at a small hockey arena and the stairs were really steep.

encoding highlights from the talk into the prayer was the ultimate hubris. "Dear Creator, we've been going over some things that were enlightening to us, and they'll probably help you too!"

Avishai,
You're the first person I've heard mention biodiesel. I always wondered why we don't go that route. I was in New Orleans and checking out this garden-aquaium place (I know.. it was early in the day), and they had this tree in there that had a sap you could burn as-is in the tank of a diesel engine. Their is supposed to be some kind of smaller plant like that in the Phillipines too.. I just remember looking at the tree thinking "why the hell are we buying oil from our enemies when we could be planting these trees all over the place?"

Punishment implies a punisher, which I cannot rationally accept (in terms of a ruling "God"). Suffering, Karma, etc, are not the same as Punishment. There's no Sheriff of the Universe running around wiping out Ammonites and making sure that the Sacramento Kings never make it to the championship, to my way of thinking. It's a nice allegory to a point, but its easy to get lost in the part.

Were You Able To "Express Freeness of Speech" While You Were A JW?
by minimus ini've come to appreciate that "freeness of speech" is something one could have only if they were studying with witnesses.
once you became a witness, it was all over!
no more questions, discussions or contrary opinions.

Gumby,
I was the one that posted what you quoted so I'll assume you were talking to me. Notice that I used the word "MAY". The sins of the fathers are visited upon the sons. That does not mean that they take root. The son MAY become an alcoholic, and he may not, though his father's behaivior is going to have some influence on him one way or another. To think otherwise would be to assume that all individuals have no ties, connections, or sensory input to the world around them.
Am I a Christian? No. A Buddhist actually, and therefore I do not accept predestination. The individual is responsible (ok.. the "individual" is oxymoronic in Buddhist terms, as there individuality is a manefestation of effect and not an inherent condition of anatma.. sorry I will halt this truck right now). I will say that there is always cause and effect. What you do effects others, be they sons, daughters, or maybe even someone you've never met.
