An idea for $$$ and a cookbook for Simon's board
by Lady Lee init has been suggested that we have a recipe collection for posters on jwd.. and that idea was taken one step further by suggesting that we make a cookbook with the various recipes provided by the posters here.
all proceeds from the book would go to simon to help support the board (which would be a lot easier than everyone getting a cut of the "profits".
it would be pretty easy to get a collection of recipes and make up some cds.. i um have actually edited a cookbook before.

LP,
Welcome to the JWD forum.
I will not drag on with a diatribe about the JWs, because I have over 20 years experience - born into the cult. I am a man of few words, but I see a possible emotional train wreck in your situation.
Let me give you some helpful advice, as I would my own sister, if I had one. First, don't get into a serious relationship at 18. If you have your act together as I suspect you do, then make the most of it and start a career that will sustain you and not make you dependent. Then if you decide to marry, you will have a career, should something happen to your spouse, or if the marriage goes south for some reason. Second, we buy insurance for our vehicles, but too many people don't consider an education and career as a form of insurance.
As for the j-dubs, please don't enter that cult just to please somebody. That cult requires your heart and soul and teaches conditional love for family members, among other disturbing beliefs. I know firsthand the effects of this cult.
I wish the best for you LP.

It's not likely that an abuser will confess the crime to an elder. But a report from the abused or abuser's relatives, or others, is more likely.
Watch, the WTS will try to weasel out by trying to exclude elders, by claiming that they're not 'clergy'.
May the Washington State senate have the wisdom to pass this bill.

Calculus Book Online - Free!
by VM44 inthe watchtower published articles on many topics.. reading the awake!
magazine over a period of years has been compared to being equivalent to a college education.. but, where are the articles on math?
in particular, nothing has ever been published in the awake about calculus, which was the mathematics that really ushered in modern science and technology.. nothing in the watchtower library at all, not on calculus, algebra, or trigonometry!.

Should I let my kids visit my JW parents?
by NAPPY ROOTS ini have a dilema.
my parents are still active jw.
last year they told me they had to limit their association with me.

I will have to agree with Outlaw and Arch.
Your children are your (and your spouse's) responsiblility - physically and spiritually. JWs know this and should respect this idea. If you find your parents actions are not acceptable, then there is no reason to expose your children to those actions either.
I know what the bible says about honoring your mother and father, but most JWs I have known don't care enough about non-believing family members either. They don't practice what they preach and be good examples for others to emmulate. I would let them know that when they show love towards they're own blood and be an example for the children then I would let them visit with the children, but only if me or my spouse was around to supervise, so to speak. You don't have to tell them about the supervisory part, as it will become apparent in due time.
If they're any kind of loving grandparents then they will go out of their way to accommodate your wishes, just for a chance to see their grandchildren.
I tell you this from experience within my own family.
Best of luck and please let us know what you decide, and the outcome.

Estee:
I'm new to the board and I just want to say Congratulations! You will find BC one of the most beautiful places on earth - one of god's greatest creations. I've lived in the Northwest nearly my entire life and it would take alot to make me move. Be sure to try out China Town and try Whistler. Also, Victoria is a romantic place in the summer. It's great that you have a convenient commute to work.
Again congratulations!

P.S. Let us know how your new job is going in awhile.
