Convince me that I'm wrong. I am extremely disappointed with the response. But the same thing happened during the crisis in the Caribbean (Haiti etc) a few months back. I read responses about how uncaring and ungenerous the witnesses are and yet I don’t see too many people on this board being generous or even going to these posts. Three people brought it up and yet there's hardly a response. Some here are more interested in what avatar somebody should use. All I read is skeptism. Is that an easy way out for you? At this point I truly don’t care how you respond to me regarding this post. If it makes you give, that’s all I want. Please don’t be like the witnesses that you criticize. From where I stand I don’t see any difference. Up to 68,00 people have died and it will continue to climb. How can we sit back and do absolutely nothing? Come on people show your compassion and give, volunteer, do SOMETHING!!
p.s If I’m wrong please respond. I want to believe that some give but do no state so.

They say they don't celebrate Xmas, but...???
by JH inevery year, on dec 25th, witnesses in our area gather at a book study group, and they have a dinner together.
although they say that they don't celebrate christmas, why do they gather on dec 25th like catholics do and share dinner together?
i'm sure that neighbors think that it's a christmas gathering.. i know that there isn't any christmas decorations there, or gifts being given, but i find it odd, that every year, some book study will organize a dinner on december 25th.

My mother is having dinner with friends today. She called me yesterday to say that she has no problem with Christmas as long as it's secular; getting together with family, but feels that bringing Christ into it is absolutely wrong, pagan and she let me know that yesterday. She called her sister and niece in the Netherlands yesterday also. I really don't get it. She is totally against it yet she calls us on Christmas Day. She rarely calls, so it's not like she called and it just so happened that it was a holiday. I tried to get her off the phone, telling her that I was preparing supper , but she ignored me and continued talking. A very strange woman. I can't believe that I'm related to her. Anyway I hope everyone had a great Christmas. In spite of my mother I had a very good Christmas.

My brother just called from Corpus Christi and mentioned that they had about 4 inches of snow. All the kids were using laundry hampers, cardboard boxes and the like to go tobogganning. That must have been so much fun for these kids. Some have probably never seen snow.

by minimus infor me it was the realization that there was no "faithful & discreet slave", that all the prophecies "proving" that jehovah's witnesses are the only religion approved by god is bogus and the realization that this is a "cult" and there is no real normal sense of love and affection in the "truth".

Hi M.J. Thanks for the quote and the link. I didn’t realize that women were also included as prophets. I sense that the role of women is very limited; basically show up, listen and obey. I thought that only the GB’s were considered prophets.
Even though I was never a witness, one of the things that made me realize that this was not the truth was the fact that they stated that they were the truth, the only truth. Jesus is the truth (John 14:6), not any org or religion. Through this forum and books I have read I have come to realize how untrue this org truly is.

I never knew they changed the Generation 1914 Doctrine
Nosferatu: Do some members still believe in this doctrine even though it has been changed? My mother sometimes talks about 1914 and about not dying. She has always had a great fear of getting old and of dying. It must have shook her when my dad passed away last year, thinking that they would never die.
Also, does, or did, the org believe that they were prophets? My mothers says that they never claimed that.

This is a sore spot for me too, the lack of generosity to people in general. The org’s magazines that I have read, about being charitable, always talked about helping their brothers and sisters and if a wordly person happened to be there, then they would help him also. Does the Salvation Army only help their own, do the Catholics, etc, etc.?

Hi Mary: First I find this statement appalling. Do they really believe that they have the power to offer people everlasting life or am I misreading it?
When the hurricanes occured my mother was forever bringing it up, not necessarily because she felt sorry for these people, but because it was another sign that we are close to the end. I mentioned about giving to a charity and she mentioned that the witnesses don’t broadcast it for every one to see how generous they are. For practical reasons the Salvation Army, Red Cross etc have to be visual so people know where to go.
It always made me ill, to hear JWs bashing the Canadian Red Cross which looked after blood services. Of course you wouldn't dare donate funds to them, lest horror of horrors, it ended up in the blood services division. But come tragedy, JWs would be in the same line as all the other victims, seeking assistance in one form or another. And if you were elderly and disabled, where did they go to get subsidized canes, walkers, wheelchairs, etc. That's right....Red Cross. Hypocrites!
Hi xjw:This sounds like my mother. She condemns the Govt but gladly takes, even when she isn’t entitled to it. But the JW’s are honest!!!
