Have you ever had a "part" in an assembly?
by doodle-v inwell guys, i've been part of this discussion group for about two weeks and i must say it's been really fun!
i always look forward to reading everyone's thoughts on so many different topics.. i grew up in the troof, so needless to say it was a major part of my life.
my whole childhood was engulfed in meetings, field service, book study, bible study, watchtower study.

I was on several assembly programs, my first was when I was 6. My dad had me and my sister answer questions to show how "well-behaved" kids can retain what they hear at meetings and assemblies if they take notes. The best part of ASSemblies was getting to scope out the chicks in the summer. If it wasn't for those 3 holy gatherings a year, my world would have consisted of members of the local KH. What a terrible waste of life! I remember as a kid at the international convention in Oakland, California, thinking it would never end and getting sunburn so bad I cried.

Do you think this is rude????
by bluesapphire intoday we went out to lunch with my mom.
she invited some friends of hers without telling us.
we thought it was going to be just her and her husband and my brother and his wife.

Making such a scene with public praying is rude. I was always embarassed by the "spiritual towers" of men who felt the need to pray for the whole group when we would go out to eat after the conventions. Anyone have suggestions of what to say to help these fools realize they are offensive?

I didn't think my JW family could find another way to hurt me but...

my daughter just got home.
you all know i dressed her up, painted her nails, curled her hair, and sent her off to my favorite cousin's wedding.

I can understand your rage. I felt the same when the elders outright lied to me about my daughter asking to get baptized. My daughter is 14 and I knew my ex-wife would be pressuring her to get baptized, so I called the elders to see if she had asked to get baptized. One (Steve Ratey) told me she had not and he would be the elder to know for sure. Then I called the elder that had been studying with the kids and he said in his opinion neither was ready nor had they shown any interest in getting baptized.
I would like someone to explain to me how a 14 year old girl is not ready for marriage, but is capable of deciding to get baptized, a decision that will have far greater and longer-lasting effects on her.

Ok Ladies and Gay men..................
by sandy inthey posted a topic on the world's most beautiful woman.
what about men?.
who is the hottest guy in the world?
-
JudasCain
Why would I have to be gay to think another guy has "got it going on"? I can't even single out one woman that I would forsake all others for, they all look sooooo good. As for guys, I think Sean Connery even now has his game right. Pierce Brosnan is another lady-killer that I wouldn't mind looking more like. It seems the younger generation now like the guys that look like they slept under their beds instead of in them. Go figure.

what would you choose for your last meal?
by Ravyn inwe just finished our anniversary dinner(it was wednesday but we waited till week end...) and i have to say--i outdid myself this year!.
now last year we had our church wedding for our 5th anniversary and we had cajun fried turkey and jambalaya and a wonderful catawba/peach manischevitz wine punch(with gingerale) with peaches and melon floating in the bowl....(very pretty coral colored punch).
we had a red-velvet/almond flavored wedding cake and the groom's cake was deep chocolate with mocha icing... followed at midnight by a shot of henry mckenna or irish mist..... fantastic!

I'm not sure what you said Francois, but for my last meal I'd have to have lobster. Of course dessert would be a ruby fruit jungle.

Hands up those who don't give a rats arse about religion / spirituality.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. in.
is it just me, or there others who have no room for religion in their lives?.
i appreciate that others are entitled to their beliefs and opinions concerning such beliefs, but i am amazed at the number of posters, who, after years of being oppressed and mislead by religion, still manage to garner some sense from the whole notion of god / religion / spirituality.. cheeses the cynic.

Both hands up and an AMEN. My most peaceful days are the ones when I don't think about religion or god.
All we are is dust in the wind...........

What did you do to keep yourself amused at the KH?
by be wise inwhen i was very young about 12 or 13 my brother [he's mad, not much older] sometimes used to do a cheeky magic trick during the watchtower[god, this was the most boring of them all, i think].
he used to put his hands by his side and miraculously the books on his lap would rise all by themselves [yeah, you guessed it ...morning glory], well it made me laugh my head off.
i bet people could see my shoulders bouncing up and down from the back row.

As a young kid I was bored and tried not to fall asleep. My father once humiliated me by having me stand at my seat that was dead center of at least 200 for a full minute (seemed like forever), during the Sunday morning public talk, just because I nodded off. As a teenager I ummmm well ... lets just say I did it in the men's restroom. Which reminds me of a favorite saying of mine: You pray, I masturbate. We're both making somebody feel good.
