I'm so sorry to hear about the lay off.
On the bright side, remember that at least you are alive to celebrate your birthday with your loved ones.
I wish you all the best in the coming year. Mazel tov!!

I think you have come to a very helpful site. This is not a help line, but for a lot of people it is a group session of sorts (but doesn't replace therapy if you need it, I hasten to add!), because it is such a relief to find that you are NOT the only one who is going thru the struggle of leaving.
A big welcome to the board. Take a look at the "Best of" section in the drop down menu, and you'll find a lot of great resources. You may find ways to help initiate changes within your own family, who knows? It has happened, and it's very exciting when it does.

today i went to a community vo-tech school with a friend of mine....she needed to pick up her books.. the bookstore was buzzing with energy and i wound up buying 7 books.. i have thought about going to school for a long time.. anyway, i am going to start the process.......whatever that is.......to get some college courses.
not sure if i will go to this school, but i have made the decision to go!!!!!!!!!!!!.
don't have a clue what i will take i just know i want to go.. any advice ?
Hehe, I'm taking some courses now too. Anatomy and Physiology, so that I can enter an allied health or nursing field. I would like to combine that with my BA and get (I hope) an interesting job.
What do you like to do? What would you love to learn about? If you've never been to college, then the first 2 years will give you a sampling of everything as you take your general requirements, so it's possible you will get an idea (or refine your thoughts) during that time.
Congratulations for taking the plunge!!!

i'll try not to make this long.. my wife recently told me that she thinks i act like "she has some sort of flaw that makes her need to be a jw" and i am "trying to figure out what it is".
i don't know how better to sum up my attitude over the last couple of years.
when she said it i just shook my head and laughed.
Hi CYP,
Interesting post. If your bitterness with the WTS is tainting your feelings toward your wife, I'm glad that she could verbalize how she saw it. And glad that you are able to look objectively at your treatment of her. Those are good conditions for communication to grow in, so I hope that continues.
Very glad to hear from you after so long. Keep us posted!

warning: the wtbts is becoming more cultish as evidenced in this mp3.
listener take heed.
turn on all your cult warning alarms on.. .
That guy sounds horrid!! His voice defines the stereotype of "cultic".
This is obviously the new way to keep everyone living in Perpetual Urgency. (Which no one can manage without exhaustion.)
And I think the guys is right. But I believe that God loves good irony--so that is why I think the end will be soon for the WTS. Ya know, I think it could actually happen in 2007...
I was not surprised to see how easily the JWs are cutting corners for world evangelism. They are calling the job done even with 3 countries witless-ness. I guess they mailed in a few copies of Awake? Why didn't they do that with the other hundreds of countries, years ago?? Would have saved a great deal of time, don't you think?
Contrast the GB's opinion of the "preaching work" being "done" to that of the Joshua Project (a cooperative mission/strategy movement): http://www.joshuaproject.net/globalctry.php

i am a rather old fogey on the matter - just black and hot.
but i like the occasional mocha.. what use of this universal bean is your favorite?
how many do you drink a week?
I usually have a "dry" cappucino with a bit of chocolate syrup. A double.
I make it at home--no one else seems to make it the way I like.

if it was always here, how did it get here?
let's leave god out of the equation for now.. blueblades.
Worry and wondering over such a thing just wastes time that can be used to enjoy universe we live in itself.what if wondering about such a thing is an enjoyable way to spend ones time in the universe?
!!! It is human nature to wonder. Enjoying it isn't jimmying!

(sent to my by my dad).
an archeological team, digging in washington dc, has uncovered 10,000 year old bones and fossil remains of what is believed to be the firs politician.
they could not decide if he/she was a republican or democrat; not enough difference to make an accurate determination.... .

i had a really pointless argument at work today that was great fun but highly instructive to me about how really useless communication can become.
at work i made the following sweeping comment - 'churchill was the only man who could have led britain so effectively during the war.
10/ look give up, you made a silly statement.
LOL @ Com-com. Oh yeah, I agree...
Q, your modesty inspires me. But I'm not sure to what.
