  My mom called...my niece no longer wants to be one of JWs

  my mom called and so did several other folks over the past week to tell me that my neice has announced that she no longer wants to be one of jws and will not be returning to the kingdom hall.

  supposedly she made this annoucement a several months ago and no one took her seriously till her mom (my ex-sister-in-law and a super pioneer of more than 20 years) just stopped attending meetings a few months ago.

  anyway, since they both seemed to have stopped drinking the kool-aid, i get the conf-call from several family members.

  Great acting/tongue biting. I feel that letting those gals know that you do not believe in shunning anyone over conscience matters might alleviate some of their stress, without tipping your hand just yet.

  Maybe in the future, after you quietly come clean to her, you can work out a plan with her to let the others know about the issues you have come up with (something like bigdreaux suggested). You might even use that as a springboard to let them know that you came to the same conclusions as your niece. That is, that you investigated those spurious claims and there was real substance to them-- and as a result you have to leave because your Bible-trained conscience won't let you stay with such deceitful teachers.

  I walked off the job today....

  can't explain this one.. right in the middle of my shift i became disassociative.. my brain locked and i threw my hands up and kept repeating, "i can't do this!

  i can't take this!

  right out the front door of the bookstore.. i wasn't angry.

  I can totally relate to having an underchallenged-job problem, and how it can affect a person.

  In 1982 I got a summer job working for the State of Alaska student loan office. I was a filing clerk--just filing, filing, filing, filing (and endless alphabetizing) all the live-long 8-hr day. I remember coming back from every break feeling like I was going to go (literally!) stark raving mad. OH THANK GOD (yes!) that it was only 3 months of torture!!!!!!! It paid for a whole year of college, though.

  Glad you cut thru the bureaucracy and could get the counselor you already have seen.

  they say a picture is worth a thousand words.. .

  to me, the picture posted below is one of the - if not the - most significant images i've seen so far in my life.

  as i was growing up (a jw), i was taught that the universe was in perfect harmony.

  I'd say that picture is perfectly gorgeous! Wow!!

  I agree with emo concerning assumptions with definitions. Creation was called "good", which is a moral evaluation. A universe with colliding galaxies is not necessarily 'morally evil' any more so than the moon causing tides imo.

  Death Walk

  this morning when i left church i was scooting down the side street close to my building and lo and behold for the first time in months and months i see two witnesses going from door to door.

  i knew immediatley they were jw's .

  as the sauntered up the street to the door it was as if they were doing a death walk, .

  the question does say it is witnesses getting these study groups up.

  one scripture you will not hear during the part is the one scripture jesus himself spoke of small groups getting together, this one:.

  matt 18:20 "for where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there i am in their midst.".

  Oompa, I just read a great comment by Lady Liberty on nvrgnbk's thread "for lurker's only". I think you can possibly use this with your wife, and maybe give her hope for your attitude:

  ...I keep this scripture on my desk..in front of me everyday. 2 Timothy 1:7 " For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of powerand of love and of a sound mind."

  You are not wrong for wanting to check things out. Jehovah expects you to make sure of all things. He does not want you to be fearful for having questions or doubts and concerns. But he has given you power, love and a sound mind to research and make sure of your worship to him. ... Remember..the bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you refuse to take the turn....this is a journey.

  If either you or your wife is clinging to beliefs from FEAR, then something is not right according to the Bible. There are plenty of places where the Bible endorses careful questioning and research. Ps. 18:17 is one of my favorite quotes, the well-known "Test ALL things..." quote, and Jesus' many exhortations that we beware of false teachers--who will come in sheep's clothing. If we see what looks like zippers on a sheep, then we have a divine responsibility to investigate.

  I am sure you know all this... but if she can feel permission and encouragement from a higher authority than the WTS --and shouldn't that be the Word of God???-- then encourage her to exercise faith in what God commands.

  Starting your own church.....

  We'd have public burnings every Sunday after the service to eliminate demons and old tires.

  I hope you won't start your church in our neighborhood! Burning tires smell horrible--and aren't good for the environment. Demons probably don't smell great either.
