I am genuinely sorry.
I'm glad you had such a great relationship, and that you could look beyond the labels until the end. May God bless you for that, and bring good out of this painful situation.

further to this topic i started a few weeks ago: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/124404/1.ashx i just found out that she died the other night.
we hadn't been close in a number of years, due to me becoming inactive, but i remember alot of the good times too.
she was older than me and offered to study with me when i was 14, which led to my getting baptized.. i remember that she tried for several years to get pregnant, and how happy she was when she finally conceived.

do you still believe or nurture in your heart "living forever in a paradise earth" and even never having to die in "this old system"?
or do you now belive in life after death as a spirit being in heaven?
or have you abandoned the hope of everlasting life?
Like jgnat, I've never been a JW, so I have not had to "give up paradise earth", etc.
Nice post, FHN. BTW, I've read that some pope (can't find the actual quote right now) said that the Bible has to be interpreted thru the context of God's eternal love (eg, that "God so loved the world.." etc.) Which means that things on a small scale that are difficult and cruel-looking do actually bring a greater positive good. That is a gap for faith, many times.
ECC 3:9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.
I think that humanity was made with the capacity to bear eternal life as real LIFE, not death/ annihilation. What is impossible to understand or feel in my present body and handicapped soul (for lack of better word), will be (imo) possible and natural in the one to come. Although I may add, I believe that rest (or peace) is an integral part of eternal life, and death grants access to rest.

from as long as i remember the watchtower society has painted an idyllic rural scene for their future existence on the planet earth, free from the non jehovah servers that live now.. my mother regularly talks about her 'little donkey and cart' that she's going to own in the 'new system of things'.. so do the jehovah's witnesses dream of living in an 'amish paradise' minus the amish, of course?.
do they have any idea what kind of nightmare existence that entails, especially adding on top of that five meetings a week, continuing fs, studying etc?.
yes, i'm leaving the ranks of the jedi to become emperor.. you didn't really think i was leaving, did you?.
warlock.
.
thankfully it is a round-trip ticket back here, eh?
Congrats on being an emperor! I must admit... it oddly feels like still being a jedi (and tastes like chicken).

my elderly mom had 2 visits from the elders.
she requested hospital liason help because she frequently has been having to go to the hospital, her blood count is low and doctors have told her that because she's a witness, there are certain procedures that make it difficult to attend to her without blood.
when the elders visited her , they recommended that because i "could" decide to give her blood, that i should not be the first person called with rights to give her life saving treatments.
Would Jesus keep harrasing some poor elderly widow until she she agreed with him?, NO.
It appears the WTS has the parable of the importune widow backwards: it was the widow who bugged the judge, not the judges who bugged the widow.

*sigh* the joys of parenthood.. i just got a call from my son's school.
he gets picked up by his after school care in a van.
all the kids who get picked up are lined up outside to get ready for their rides.. my son decides it's a good idea to pick up a stick and throw it, hitting a car and putting a small dent in it.
daystar, I think you might have lucked out here.
A lot of kids really don't "get" that things like throwing rocks or sticks or hard objects can do real damage. It's like their brain checks out. If your son is generally non-violent or doesn't act aggressively, then this might be the lightswitch for him to "get" that the laws of physics really apply to throwing/hitting after all! (D'oh!) He will not forget it too easily, and will likely avoid worse ways of learning it.
Believe me... it could be a LOT LOT LOT worse.

well since maybe you are no longer a jw any more..............you have that option!.
good idea?.
giving your sons or daughters to the "gods of war" .
Re: Who thinks Killing or Dying for your country is a good Idea?
That is an unreal question, framed to force anyone who would support military action in some circumstances to appear as pursuing war for pleasure ("a good idea!").
I wonder how evil the police are, then?
