Wow - the saving of seats was only an afterthought - apparently a bigger issue than I realized!!

I again went to the Sunday meeting with my wife, in order to "keep abreast" and look for any flaws to exploit. Lo and behold, this was a "special" meeting b/c the "Circuit Overseer???" was there to put his spin on things. Of course he's good at what he does, but I had a couple observations I would like to share via this letter which I intend to use in order to raise a little more doubt in my wife's eyes. Please add any comments you have in order to make the issue stronger!!
"The message delivered by the CO was quite an timely one, and he raised some interesting points (although I don't agree with all of them.) There is one issue in particular though, that I don't understand. And since it's a major "selling point" used by JW's to put down other religions, I am hoping you can answer this question for me. You guys always say that "Jehovah" is God's proper name, and other religions are wrong b/c they don't use it. Well during the presentation I noticed the Circuit Overseer rarely used the name Jehovah, but in most cases he used God's name. It was so obvious to me, that I made a point of counting the number of uses of each name. During the entire speech (not counting quoted Bible versus) he used the name of God 25 times, yet Jehovah was used about 10 times. I also noticed that the uses of the name Jehovah came very close together towards the end of the presentation. It seemed to me that the presenter realized his mistake at not using that name, and started throwing it in at any place possible (even when not really fitting).
Is the use of God's name really interchangeable? If not, then why do JW's use either-or, and sometimes both together (as in Jehovah God)? If it *is* interchangeable, then why are other religions wrong for deciding to use the name God instead of Jehovah? Your meetings and Bible prove to me that it's up to the individual speaker or writer to decide which name to use. Is there a number or percenteage that Christians are required to adhere to? If the presentation of the Circuit Overseer is any indication, it would seem that the name of God is more important than the name Jehovah. Or is he so important that only he can choose which name to use?
One last comment - I was utterly amazed by the acts of kindness shown at this meeting. Since it was such a special event, there was obviously a lot of interest (and therefore many people left standing). Since I'm a relatively young male and an outsider, I was left standing (no big deal). The thing that ticked me off though, were the reserved chairs. I noticed at least a dozen chairs with books, jackets, which were never actually occupied. Wouldn't it be nice if those standing were allowed to occupy those seats - at least until the persin for whom it was reserved decided to show?"
Please let me know what you think!!

Are Birthdays and Christmas celebrations really rooted in Evil????
by bk62 induring the last two months i've tried and tried to rationalize the jw view that, since these "pagan holidays are not based upon the scriptures, they must not be practices by christians".
i've spent a lot of time thinking about this, and trying to come up with their motivation for these policies.
they can't think that celebrating will actually hurt, yet they obviously can't honestly think the practice goes against the bible.. i thought it might just be another "control" for them to place on the flock - and a way to differentiate themselves from other faiths.

I think I've finally figured it out though. It's a way to tear families apart, and to pull the believers away from the rest of us. The believer, assuming this practice (or non-practice, as it may) to be correct, will try to convince other family members to practice the same beliefs. The result is quite simple - the JW's will either gain more converts (good for them), or will manage to drive the wedge even further between believers and the rest (also good for them). So when you have somebody in a situation such as mine (with a JH wife) they are forcing me to make a decision instead of letting me walk the fence.
Please post your thoughts on this!

Satanic Ritual???? -- The Memorial
by bluesapphire ini have heard so many allegations and allusions that rejecting the symbolic body and blood of christ at a jw memorial is a satanic ritual.
does anyone have any info on this other than just the fact that it seems to be that way?
i would like something concrete.

I don't know of anything concrete - but I'll definitely be watching this thread to see where it goes. I want to hear more about your plan!! :)

I attended my first meeting at a KH!!
by playdrums infor the memorial service i went with my girlfriend.
she's the jw.
i also brought my best friend.

I wish my wife could be DF'd too, but she's not baptised yet!! :)
I completely agree with your comments and observations, Playdrums. I went as well, in order to see what goes on with my own eyes. It was like such a game - almost like kids putting it right in our face "Here - you can see it, touch it, but you better just pass it on because you're not good enough to actually partake". The only person I saw who took part was a lady who came in late, wearing jeans, who I believe was either DF'd or somehow trying to make a mockery. I wanted to shake her hand, but I thought I better just stay in my role for the time being!!
I agree on the songs too - they were *terrible*!!!! Of course I have yet to find one in the songbook I actually like, but most of them flow better than the ones they played during that "event". Thanks again for posting - looks like you're well on your way of freeing your girlfriend from this hurtful organization. Good luck!!

King James Bible and the WTS
by robhic ini could swear i saw a quote or something saying that years ago (obviously before the nwt) the wts considered the king james version of the bible as the best one available.. i posed this question on another group and so far have had no luck.
it may have very well been on this site somewhere but i have back-tracked as much as i can and still haven't found the post i saw this in.
anybody have any ideas or know where this statement can be found?

bk62
GM, I for one would be very interested to see any and all changes / inconsistencies you've uncovered. Thanks!
The two most used versions of the bible are.....The revised King James version and the New Internationl version. I use the New International Version. It is preference. I do know that in the King James Version there are some verses in chapters that are not in the New International Version. I wrote both printing companys and looked up some info on web sites about those scriptures.
Basically, those few verses are questionable as to whether they were orginal. Even the King James version has them either italized or noted..
Either one is good so long as it is not the NWT. There are places that it is indeed altered. If you would like to know where some of the changes are let me know. I would be glad to show you.

It's illegal to share copyrighted software, it's as simple as that. I'm going to put it on KaZaa for you, I'll let you know.
Now that I can understand - for some reason I wasn't thinking of this as copyrighted software - guess I was wrong!!

Teen Near Death After Receiving Organs With Wrong Blood Type
by betweenworlds in.
well this is just plain depressing :( can't believe stuff like this still happens..
-
bk62
Does this bother anyone else? I would think it would be mandatory for organ recipients to be organ donors as well
As a matter of fact it does bother me. I can only imagine how much the family must have been grieving. But the hospital must have pulled some enormous strings in order to get a 2'nd heart / lung set. I was very surprised the family didn't try to at least help save somebody else's life (if as you point out, that was even an option). I can't imagine why not - I don't think the organ itself wouldn't be damaged during the process of inserting it into another body. I'm sure I'm probably wrong though!
