minimus,
What I say here ABOUT JW's is totally different than what I say TO them. I don't feel that it is hypocritical either. They, by their close-mindedness, make it a necessity.
Brad
many comments are made that jw's are actually brainwashed.
do you think this is true?

minimus,
You say mind-control, I say brainwashed. That's kind of like "you say potato (pronounced poh-taaaayyyy-toe) and I say potato (pronounced poh-taaahhhhh-toe)"..... you get the idea.
The WT.Society tells people that if they read "apostate" internet sites or books, that they will get brainwashed by Satan the Devil. That's not true, either........
It isn't true, you are right, but the fact that the witnesses believe it to be true, certainly is what convinces me and you both that they are mind-controlled/brainwashed doesn't it?
Is that a better way of putting it for you?
Brad
have been using morpheus for a couple of years now, and hasn't been too bad at all, got about 400 tracks download.

Big Tex,
Thank you for the compliment. I certainly have become more and more perceptive since leaving dub land. Of course, after leaving the WBTS, the only way to go is up, it seems.
I'll do my best to answer your questions (without giving too much information for those who want to read "The Celestine Prophecy').
The book basically talks about everyone's inherent NEED for energy, which they get mostly from love. In our early youth we begin to demand (and get) this energy from our parents and other people of great influence in our life. The control drama that they are already experiencing directly reflects the one that their kids will end up with.
As an example, (and not to pick on Scooby here, but) Scooby Snax tends to offer up questions to get opinions from others. Then when the answers he gets are not to his liking, he tends to criticize them. When this happens to a child, eventually he stops opening up to his parents, and there is a subsequent loss of energy/love. This would cause the child to likely have an aloof control drama, where he, later in life has a hard time offering his TRUE feelings to other people.
Intimidators are people that are violent physically or emotionally, even going so far as to cause great fear in their kids. They tend to cause their kids to have a "poor me" control drama (thus limiting their full potential) OR the kids go down the same path as their parents and as soon as they have the opportunity they use the same "Intimidator" control drama.
Hopefully that gives you an idea of how this happens, without me saying too much.

ballistic,
I don't want to take any of the wind out of your sails that hillary step just gave you and I have noticed that HS is a very objective person, from what I have read in her posts, so I respect her views enough to suggest that her feelings are justified, as far as your good qualities.
However, I have not really noticed any major trend in your posts to make a fair judgement as to what control drama you may lean towards. (Scooby's control drama is a lot more evident because his posts are more direct/opinionated and easier to see).
I will, however, pay more attention to your posts in the future, if you do want me to express my opinion/understanding of it.
Thanks for asking, Brad.

Good question minimus....... FINALLY!!!!! lol
From reading all the other posts it seems as though most people here would try to avoid using the term "brainwashed" when discussing this exact topic with JW's. I know for a certainty that I do!!!
What does this suggest to me? The problem lies not in the fact that a simple expression or word like "brainwashed" can actually do any harm to anyone. The very word though, would instill outright hostilty from any JW. Therein lies the answer to the question:
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW IF A JW IS BRAINWASHED?...... JUST ASK HIM/HER. If he protests greatly at the very thought that you would suggest such a thing, then YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT HE IS BRAINWASHED!!!!!!

Scoob,
The book "The Celestine Prophecy" explains in much greater detail what I refer to, but I will summarize what I mean.
Everybody has certain traits that they have developped, based on their environment/upbringing as a child. The book breaks it down into what it calls "control dramas". Some people are "intimidators", some "interrogators", some are "aloof" and some are the "poor me" type of personality.
I would place you in the "interrogator" category. You seem to post 'topics for conversation' here and then when someone disagrees with your opinion, you put forth a great deal of effort to refute that opinion. You seem to get "ENERGY" or feel more powerful by disagreeing with someone. (I say this because of the length of your NEGATIVE comments compared to your positive ones)
Whether it is conscious or not is up to you to discern. But it seems that you likely post topics for the reason of receiving the energy you get from, afterwards, disagreeing with another person.
Having said that, I am not suggesting that you are an evil person. You have taught me a lot of things, based on what you have written here. Also, I have my own control drama that I am learning to deal with. I am more of a "poor me" type of personality.
The fact that I can recognize that I also try to get energy from other people using my own methods, is the first step in correcting it, and thereby growing as a human. The fact that we are all imperfect shouldn't ever stop us from trying to become better still.
It may have seemed offensive, how I said it, but it was unintentional. Take care,
Brad
i am just about to start the last chapter of this book, and i thought i would ask the question, then see the responses after i have finished it.. who has read it?
(without giving away too much to those who may still read it).
brad (p.s.
berten,
I have finished the last chapter and thought it was very interesting. As far as your comment about it being fiction..... the same could be said about the Bible and other spiritual books.
It may be legitimate to classify "The Celestine Prophecy" as fiction as far as in which section it is placed in a bookstore but to suggest that the power of our own minds to become a higher being should not be lost at the same time.
I used to be a dub and I think the religion is a farce, but to suggest that their guidebook (the Bible, of course) is without merit would be wrong.
It is not so much the guidebook that is the problem. It is the teacher who interprets it that can lead to problems.
Thanks for your comments, by the way.
Brad
"i am meeting with the duke later on today for tea".
"i am the smartest person that i know because i can out debate any idiot here, and i can prove it!
" when i was at bethel, a few members of the governing body tried to molest me".
It does seem like you get a certain amount of energy from minimizing the importance of what other people say. If people are lying, that is between them and God or Karma or whatever. To group these liars in with other people that may have simply had a life more devastating than you can imagine seems unfair to me.
Whether this was intentional or not is irrelevant. Enough people have posted comments similar to this line of thought (of being offended that you would minimize their comments) that I thought it was appropriate to expose what you are doing.
This is not meant as a minimus bashing post, just that some people can insult others unwittingly.

psychological terror
question: who is accusing jehovah`s witnesses of psychological terror?.
answer: those people are no friends of jehovah`s witnesses.
It is funny what cynicus says about how this Hartman guy seems to have become a dub.
His writing of ANYTHING should have been shunned by the GB, yet because it is unobjectively pro JW he is welcomed in with open arms.
I have read a lot of Alan F's writings here, as well as Francois' and others and it has been far more objective/enlightening than this Hartman guy and yet the reaction from the WBTS, to AF and Francois is to push them further into the APOSTATE category.
It doesn't really surprise me, I guess, but it is still shameful.
This is one of the sad things about a democratic culture (not that I can think of any other sad things about democracy, though). These shallow minded people (WBTS) are treated as though they are an acceptable vehicle to GOD.
Brad
i distinctly remember a paragraph stating that persons needed to turn to christ, not et, or something like that.
it was hilarious.
i thought at the time, "this is pathetic, acting as though a fictional character poses a threat to jesus".
This is off topic slightly but why didn't ALL religion get upset when John Lennon's "Imagine" song stated that his view of a better world included "no religion"? Is it because they would have to condemn themselves as well, rather than just the "Indian" philosophies, or just some OTHER religion?
Religion=hypocrisy
