I keep trying to do a commentary on it, but I can't get through that drivel. Seriously it's killing me trying to watch it.

What Were Some Stupid Rules In Your Hall?
by minimus infamilies with younger children had to sit in the last 3 rows or they were counseled!.
disfellowshipped persons were told not to sit next to each other and talk because it "looks like they're unrepentant"..

Our Hall had a talk regarding PG-13 movies being just as bad as R rated movies, so they were banned for a couple of years.

I'm sure I'll end up seeing it as well. Count me as one of the rare who like the movies better than the books. I think the books carry so much dead weight in them, I'm also not a fan of her style of writing. It's like with music, I can like a band's music but if I don't like the singer's voice I'm not really going to get into them. Here I like the story's themselves, but her style of writing annoys me to no end. This will probably sound stupid as well, but I can't stand how everything has to have some magical element to it, it seems so hack to me. Like no one can have a leather belt or bag, it's a dragon-skinned bag. Or no one can have a feathered something, it's got to be Phoenix feather, or it's not a horse-hair brush it's a unicorn-hair brush. The thing that strikes me as so funny as well is she goes into these details about magical creatures in the whole class about "care of magical creatures" but no product is ever made from these magical creatures. They're 9 times out of 10 made of some type of Dragon substence.
I'm very glad for the woman to have sold so much though given her story, and for getting kids to read.

I hate it, seriously I can't stand that. I'll usually say "Can't talk I need to focus" and that gets them to stop. Usually a laugh, but they stop.

What did you dream about doing in the "New System"?
by lurk3r inlife in the new system, did you give it much thought?
sure, we would be brought to perfection, and there would be a resurrection, but how about other things?.
in my years growing up and living as a jw, i never really thought about it that much.

I basically dreamed about living on a pacific beach somewhere, basically secluded. Swimming in a lagoon daily, having a small garden and monthly deliveries for groceries. I was hoping for some sort of communication device basically wireless internet so I could still talk to people if I wanted, but that was basically my goal.

MUST SEE!!! Best Youtube Video on Theocratic Warfare that I've ever seen!!!
by Tuesday inhey everyone, i don't think the maker of the video is on the board so i figured i'd post this video here.

W.Once,
I can see your point for yourself, where you would quote from it frequently. If I may here though going into the video:
He didn't respond that there was a secret book because HE DIDN'T THINK OF THE BOOK AS SECRET. Why cant people get that in thier head?
It's not that I can't get it through my head, I think it's because the way he reacted afterwards and the ministerial servant next to him saying "No I knew there were books I wasn't privy to." I think that if the Ministerial Servant knew about the book he would've said "No, I know all about the book it's not a secret." His response also about comparing it to a checkbook that you can't let people see it, once again that goes into how he feels the book is to be kept secret.
I'm sure you wouldn't have used an example like that if you were in a similar situation. I'm sure you would say that the book wasn't secret simply that it was only issued to Elders however the book was simply a condensement of various WT articles as quick reference. Am I correct?
I say you probably feel differently than this elder.
I just think that to make it seem so sinister and a "Conspiracy" to control people is disingenuous.
I would say it's not making it as sinister as you're saying. Propganda Techniques videos deal with showing people the various logical fallacies of propoganda JWs use. Secret books, greater knowledge as you climb the ladder of command is a cult property. I believe he's just trying to show how that would apply to the Witnesses. A much easier example of this would be the Kingdom Ministry. If you're not a Witness, you don't get it. If you attend a meeting you can be given one, but it must be returned at the end of the meeting. I thought their reaction to being confronted with not mentioning the book made it seem like they were definetly trying to hide something. Would you not say the same?
Again, I ask this is a common cause for all of us. Showing how JWs have cult properties, can you think of a better way of:
1.) Showing JWs lying to protect their religion
2.) Showing secret books or knowledge becoming greater as you get more responsibility.For Shamus;
The comments on the video asking why these two men agreed to an interview, he asked the JWs before rolling the camera "I'm doing a video regarding cults and their properties, Would you mind being on camera to give a Jehovah's Witness point of view." I don't think they would feel too ensnared as I'm sure they would've thought some of the questions would've dealt with cult properties. I'm shocked they even agreed to the interview.
Craig proved that there were secret books - that is all.
Which was the point of the video, secret books are a cult property.
To say that they lied is completely untrue.
I wouldn't say completely untrue, they at the least were misleading with their responses. If you want to talk semantics, you could say that they didn't lie because they didn't know it was secret but I would think anyone who was watching that would see that they got caught regarding something they didn't want to discuss and were purposely avoiding the issue.
If you embellish facts, it makes us look like wack-jobs.
I think because we're former JWs we think automatically of the excuses that would be used by JWs in this situation. To the regular person it just looks like the elder and ministerial servant were lying.
On a side note, what are the thoughts on the court room C.O. Would we agree he was lying there or would you say that he honestly had never heard of this book even though it's advertised in the Kingdom Ministry?

Creator or Evolution? Confused...
by Newborn ini don't feel i have to know the truth about how life started or where we're coming from etc, but can't help thinking abt it anyway now and then.
guess it's only natural.. right now i feel really clueless and that i have too little knowledge abt the darwin, big bang theory.... (i was always taught by the dubs that darwin questioned his own theory...but was it really so?)..
i have a close friend who's sure of the evolution but can really the complex and wonderful life and nature come abt by chance (even though he says it's not chance...).

Chalam, I usually like your posts but I thought this one was a bit too pithy not to merit a response.
Anyhow the long and the short of it is this, evolution states that my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandmother was a fish right?
No that would still probably be homo-sapien. The human race is alot older than you'd give it credit for, unless you're saying Omo1 and Omo2 didn't exist. But I'm sure you're going to say that this isn't what you meant simply that when it boils down to it you descended from a fish. However all types of life originated from common descent. If you don't think so there's a simple solution for this. If you could explain why androgenous retro-viruses show themselves exactly how common descent has been proven. Or for even a smaller example if you could explain how our chromosome #2 is a merged chromosome from 2 primate chromosomes. No chromosome could disappear, that would be lethal. I mean I don't have a problem with people saying God exists and created life, but I don't believe in a deceptive God. One that would put this in our DNA to make it appear that evolution occured when it didn't.
And her great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandmother was a single cell?
No actually they would still probably be a fish. Even if you're talking the Cambrian explosion. However again if you're talking about common descent then yes eventually you will see that things do boil down to single-cell animals.
That single cell spontaneously appeared in the big bang right? Or am I in the "old light" here too?
Not old light, unless you went to High School before 1953 when it was proven that life can come from non-life. Abiogenesis in a word. Check out the Miller-Urey expiriment that shows organic matter can be created from inorganic matter. Now where that inorganic matter came from, could be from the big-bang. Before that, yes Scientists are not sure, but they've actually tracked it to 1 .0000000000000000000000042nd of a second after the big-bang. This is when theoretical physics come in to play regarding the rules before the natural world technically existed, maybe other rules apply in this case. Regardless the first law of thermodynamics states that matter cannot be created nor destroyed, so even if you're saying that "this all boils down to the big bang" it really doesn't. The big bang is basically saying how all of these pieces of matter and elements were separated. It actually boils down to protons and electrons attaching themselves to elements of hydrogen (if I'm recalling correctly) which changed the type of element it is. This would've happened due to the immense amount of energy that occurs in supernovas and certainly in a type of release of energy that would break apart that sort of matter.
Regardless, if you're going to be pithy really try to at least get the facts straight before typing. Ignorance breeds ignorance, unless you want science to stall out and not find cures for the new evolving diseases you're going to want science to figure out how things evolve so they can be treated. Unless you want to try and pray away the disease, I mean that has such a great history of curing diseases.
