Now if only we could hear the other side on exactly what is considered extreme about the literature. Instead of simply asking and possibly altering the rhetoric slightly instead we'll be subject to a heaping helping of persecution complex.

The idea came to me a couple of weeks ago when my tonsils swelled and I was taken off of work. All I've really got is an outline and a bit of research done. I think regardless of my writing style it's going to be controversial. My videos are very polarizing as much as they're strictly the facts. With a documentary I'm relying on other people to give their opinions which of course will be discarded. I don't think I'll be able to get many active JWs to give interviews on the subject. Obviously I'd like to interview the Venus sisters and Prince, but somehow I doubt I'd be able to. My dream would be to interview the Governing Body as a whole about things, nothing too specific just getting their responses on things. I'm fairly confident I'd be able to get people to talk about things by asking real open-ended questions.
Mickey Mouse you have a PM.
Anyone who's interested in this project as well, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to PM me.

This to me seems like a very good opportunity to get the word out....and it should be relatively low cost.
Knocking seemed to have gotten a fair amount of airplay due to the PBS series independent lens, I would guess something done on a very fact based level, asking good questions like Tuesday does on his you tube series would be very interesting....there is plenty of information that the WTS has provided that would be of interest to the general public that they (the WTS) have done a very masterful job of shielding from their present membership, at least until the time that they can get thier potential converts and members to feel that anything 'anti-WTS' is merely apostate rants....
There should be plenty of mainstream paths to get the word out.........just want to make sure it is not a rant
Actually the basic idea is to get word out there of HOW Jehovah's Witnesses fit into the mold of a destructive cult. I want to do an interview with Steve Hassan with his BITE method explaining what they are. The big selling point of the documentary and the hardest part I feel where I've just started sending out feelers to various agents is getting former Jehovah's Witnesses who are actors, actresses and musicians to do interviews about their upbringing as JWs. That I think would be the selling point.
Personally I feel if it is out in common knowledge HOW JWs fit the mold of cults it will be harder to recruit people. I'm going to be writing the documentary since that's my trade, I'm going to try my hardest to make it similar to my series. We'll see though, I do have to sell the thing and have a partner who will be helping me write it who's going to be a bit busy when his other movie comes out next year.

That's what I was going to say Jim, basically he needs to take the core requirements anyway. He'll find like I did those core requirements might seem like High School at first but they're a whole different ball game in what you're learning and how. People who hated High School usually LOVE College. Plus he needs to take I believe 6 electives which would be for the credit hours, tell him to read through the catalogue and sign up for anything that interests him. chances are he'll find one thing and try to major in that. That's what happened to me, I started out hoping for an associates in computer programming, ended up moving to paralegal, liberal arts, english then creative writing. Luckily the last three were the easiest shifts. Life has a funny way of falling in to place, just get to college things will fall into place from there.

Why don't you try to get him to go to college or something in order to occupy his mind so he'll get that silliness of returning out of his head?

I don't think the pros would be anything that I wouldn't have been taught otherwise. My parents were divorced, the same basic "good" things people here are saying were the pros of being raised a JW is really just the pros of having responsible parents. My father taught me not to steal or lie and all that fun stuff.
The stuff I learned as a JW was how to not get so attached to my friends that I couldn't drop them at a moment's notice, how to make sure no one can find out any of my real feelings, here's a good one...how to not really read a selection but still be able to answer questions about it by remember specific questions. The really good stuff I feel any parent would've taught me, in fact I know this because my father who was an apostate taught me the same things.

How many here actually still believe that there is a God??
by annalice inafter being gone from the jw's for many years now , and having done extensive research on the history of god and the belief in him , i can't seem to find any logical way to have a belief in an invisble being up there ruling over us.
how many here still believe?
how many don't?.

I'm not even agnostic, while I will agree and say that no one can KNOW for sure there isn't a God I do not believe in him.
I find it funny the biggest thing that convinced me that humans were animals was my own daughter's birth. I know alot of people say stuff like "It's such a miracle"; for me it so closely mirrored the births I'd seen of animals while I was still happy it was my child there was nothing special about the process. It was just like any other mammal. That really made me turn the corner to realizing that humans are nothing more than animals.
