her and her husband made it clear many years ago they didn’t want a homo in their family.

I read every response. Deepest gratitude to everyone. I did allow myself to weep with feelings I tried to hide, but couldn’t. Apparently there was still bullshit I was unable to hide by anger. It’s done. I’m on my way forward and grateful for all your supportive words.

What is the longest distance you drove to attend a summer Convention?

here is a photo of the milwaukee brewers ( american baseball team) county stadium.

for some reason, we were assigned this outdoor stadium for our 1975 four-day summer convention.

our congregation was located 90 miles away on the north side of chicago.. some congregation members stayed at milwaukee hotels for the four-day convention.

I was a kid (10 - 13 yo) living in Idaho Falls, ID, USA when the family towed a camper trailer with an old 70's model Plymouth sedan 850+ miles north to Canada to the Edmonton International Assembly. - - -

- - - If you happened to be in an SUV-type vehicle who got hit on the front bumper by a drunk JW father driving a green Plymouth while looking for a parking spot....... yeah, that was us....... well, "HIM".

I’ve been shunned for many years so her passing doesn’t really constitute a loss for me. Her and her husband made it clear many years ago they didn’t want a homo in their family. Request granted. The only thing that pains me is the assumption that this is supposed to pain me... but it doesn’t. That religion destroyed everything.

I’m not devoid of feelings. This affects me. I’ve flirted with tears today. But I refuse to give way to emotions that have no business existing given the history.

I’m confused.

JW elders stumped by Watchtower Publications

i was approached by two jehovah’s witness elders who handed me a pamphlet advertising the jw .org website.

each man carried a bible and an apple ipad.

they told me that they enjoyed visiting with people about the bible, and asked if i was a bible reader.

I asked, “In view of that statement, why do Jehovah’s Witnesses actively shun exemplary Christians, including family members, who voluntarily leave the religion for conscientious reasons, such as Watchtower teachings which contradict the Bible?”

The answer is, of course....... "Well, cuz."

my father's uncle and spiritual mentor, benjamin ray kent, had been a deacon (ministerial servant) in watchtower founder c. t. russell's home ecclesia (congregation) in brooklyn, and also served as russell's personal secretary at brooklyn bethel.

after attending university my father served a 5-year prison term during world war ii, supposedly for his loyalty to god.

while his mother's proud and patriotic family disowned my father for his decision, it was his uncle ray who regularly visited him in prison.. that is the culture in which i was raised, and for much of my life, i took great pride in the belief that my father was a man of integrity to god.

i remember when my faith left me.

i used to enjoy meetings and used to participate but then all of a sudden i was finding myself bored shitless at meetings.

i was taken off the theocratic ministry school for not attending when i was due to give a talk and not long after did something naughty and got disfellowshiped.

After a 20-year absence because of disfellowshipment, it took me five years of sitting in the back row to be forgiven by men. That process of reinstatement was very enlightening. Two years later I DAed and never looked back.
