it seems that americans are keen to get amongst the big boys when it comes to soccer skills as can be seen from the embedded page futher down this post.. however, i have a sneaky feeling that americans might well be lacking in the genetic skills department when it comes to actually understanding the finer points of the noble art of soccer, let alone having any natural aptitude for the game.
this is a an excerpt from a book by bill bryson, a very popular american author who keeps us brits amused for hours with his experiences of living in england.this is bill's account of his first ever attempt to play soccer:.
"i had watched football (soccer) on tv and i thought i had a fair idea of what was required, so when one of the team lofted a ball in my direction, i decided to flick it casually into the net with my head, the way i had seen kevin keegan do it.
Football is great, some people take it waaaay to seriously , but it is a great game.
Yanks hate it because they can't match our league. I agree, Cricket is sooooooooooooo boring....
Id say Bowles and snooker come close runners up in the boredom stakes.

Remember, we have nothing against the American people. We are against American policy. It is funny, you could parrallel anti American accusation with anti semetic accusations ; those that dare to speak against Israel are labled Anti Semetic, those that dare to speak against Bush and his cowboy administration are labeled Anti American.

now, of course, w might be a paragon of virtue in comparison, at least with regard to oral sex in the oval office, but many people who have criticised aspects of his presidency have had all sorts of accusations rained down upon their heads.

Israel has NO right to exist. As a people, the Jews have no homeland; Israel as a country was created and taken away from the people that owned Palestine; the natural Arabs.
Hamas have played right into Ariel Sharon's hands. They have immediately said no to any peace, which is exactly what Sharon wanted, so he could go out and kill more Palestinians. Sharon is a butcher and a war criminal, and I find it hard to believe that you support a nation that has an evil man like Sharon as head.
The real people acting like little girls are the American funded Israeli army, going out with rage to destroy Palestinians, knowing full well that the Palestinians cannot fight back. This is why they must resort to acts such as the suicide bombing we seen the other day in Jerusalem. As for the accusation that the Palestinian leaders should dismantle these organizations, to ask them to do this without their own defence army is ridiculous. Ariel Sharon has been systematically dismantling the Palestinian Defence for over the past two years, which is why he knows FULL WELL that they have no capability to irradicate these Organizations from amongst them.
Sharon has played this one very sly. Supporters of Israel should be ashamed to support a barbaric army, who kill innocent civilians everyday in their battle for Palestine.
