depending how long you where a member or if you where a born in, the watchtower leaves certain marks or traces in your mind that you only notice after leaving them for good.. i think this is similar to a big river, with a high level of water that covers the hidden rocks and cliffs.
once you start lowering the water level, all these rocks come to the surface and suddenly that river is difficult to navigate.. like that river, our minds are flooded with false hope for the future, a naive expectation to have jehovah sort things out for you and lots of fake, conditional love and warmth.
all these things hide the fact that the same organization also put some heavy rocks into your mind called fear and passivity.
Also you do not want to do or say the wrong thing - because you have been taught one thing but your mind and heart says another - so one feels guilt as well.
This takes time - time - time that is the only thing that will heal - also (in my case) one believes that their is no god. It is only you and you alone - that can help yourself - along with this thought comes a whole new dimension and FREEDOM.
[it gets under my skin when people post that a jw was df'd for being homosexual.
if one ever was df'd simply for being homosexual, one would have ample grounds for a lawsuit.

Also if you and the parents are in the "in" crowd - and they carry favour with the elders - whatever you do will be swept under the carpet. It has nothing at all to do with the holy spirit.

i am reading steve hassan's book, freedom of mind.
on page 120, he lists some ways that a cult member will elicit their authentic identity.
1. creating illnesses, such as skin problems, asthma, or allergic reactions, that give the cult member an excuse to sleep or take time off from work.. my mom has had a mysterious rash, creeping and reappearing on her face and body, for months.
Yes I do think that many JW bluff and or create their own illness - so that they do not have to go out on field service or go to many of the meetings - and yes stress also plays a major part in their lives - because they just cannot get up with all the meetings / so it has to come out in some form of illness.
Know my friend when I was a JW (15 years ago) (she has passed on now) she had this terrible skin allergy - and little did I know but she was sexually abused by her father / (she was adopted) this father was an elder as well - she only told me 2 or so years before she died / (the then elders did nothing about it) awful!!
So yes if you are unhappy about something or just unhappy in the borg then it has to come out somehow - and this could be so in your mom's case.

she thanked me, told me she loved me and that i would be very blessed.

Hi LouBelle..........this is my daughter everyone. We live on the property of my mother in law / Lou's gran. I just wanted to let everyone know that Lou did a lot for her gran. When she was well - they went everywhere, movies, casino, dinner, lunch. Lou cooked a lot for her granparents and went out of her way for them. Must say at times they did not appreciate her as old people are but she did it anyway. When her gran was really ill, Lou had to do all the messy things and sort her gran out. Yes Lou had a very hard time with her grandad (as we all did) but she continued to carry on. So yes want to say I love my daughter very much and thank goodness we are both out.
We do have a good laugh and enjoy each other's company - we even went to the Assembly and protested outside just the 2 of us - what a good time we had!!
So thanks Lou and thanks to everyone on this board - for supporting her thru some really rough times she went thru - but we stuck together as a family and with your help she has come thru. Living is S. A is tough - but it is a really wonderful country - we as a family have just got to make sure we safe - lock up and look out for one another.

The problem is: if and that is if!!!! you can get a seperation - then divorce does normally comes later and that will cause a huge scandel (because now she HAS to get a job and she HAS to do this or that!! so terms and conditions will apply before you take her back.....and no way as the others have said will the elders allow this to happen to a women who is doing god's work!!

i then went to church and sort of joined - i then trusted in the "lord" and my eyes were open to all the nonsense that was taught to us - but just could not get passed all the hypocracy in the chruch and still they just like the jw are teaching nonsense - sorry to all the christians on the board, but after a lot of searching and reading and reading - i now believe that there is no god - no god at all.. especailly after reading on this board about the flood, and how the animals were placed.

Yes sometimes it is hard for me to think that there is no god - but one has to come to this conclusion if you see the horrible things happening in the world today - and there has been no step in from the higher power.
.but on another note - when one thinks of the human body / babies / etc that is a marvel! but apart from that - then I just don't know.
All I know is my life from moment to moment - and live in the moment.

Especailly after reading on this board about the flood, and how the animals were placed. How this god just not exsit - and just does not care at all about us! we as humans must take care of ourselves and put trust in ourselves - if we do not do it no one else will.
We cannot ask god for anything! as he is not "out there" or "in here"
What we must do is just "live in the moment"
