In the Netherlands
"If you're driving in the UK and you flash your headlights at another driver you are actually saying "Go ahead and make your move, I am giving way to you". It's a sort of gentlemanly gesture. Similarly, if you're driving on the motorway and get overtaken by a large vehicle, flashing your lights for him to see in his mirror is a statement that he is safely clear and it's OK for him to pull over in front of you."
its simular.
Constant bright light - on your own direction "I'm in a hurry, move to the right"
And as in the Wild West, oncoming flashing lights could mean "slow down, cops ahead", or "turn off your !@#$ brights, you are blinding me!"
I don't think there is so much difference.

Information For Flashers.
by Englishman ini've just read in todays paper an article on driving in different countries.
apart from the obvious statement that europe drives on the right, uk on the left and italy in the shade, i was intrigued that the flashing of headlights had different meanings too.. if you're driving in the uk and you flash your headlights at another driver you are actually saying "go ahead and make your move, i am giving way to you".
it's a sort of gentlemanly gesture.

Realist,
No I don't condone this insanity - but my first though was my grandmother saying this (and I could'nt stand it)I was just ironic.
MY idea is that fellows like that should get lifetime in jail - but not for spitting, just for beating his wife. -

Are you patriotic?
by kitties_and_horses_oh_my! intonight my husband and i watched the fireworks for the 4th of july.
i've never done this before, save for occasionally peering out of my window as a child hoping to see a few.
tonight was wonderful - beautiful, fun, and there were tons of people there who were behaving themselves at least as well as people behave at assembly.

could'nt edit, so I post again.
I am and I always was.
I am not fanatic - I just love my country.
I'm not supporting the politics, but for me patriotic is very basic: I preferably buy products that are produced in my own country (except when these products are to expensive for me or aren't produced here at all) -

as a kid my grandma sometimes spanked us, and when we did say "we haven't done anything wrong" she used to answer : then it's for a time I did'nt noticed...
Maybe the judge was thinking likewise -

If you saw a serious car accident, would you...
by JH inif you saw a serious car accident, and people were trapped in the car, or unconscious in the wreck, would you try to get them out even if the car was on fire and could explode at any moment?.
coming back from quebec city today, i saw a car or truck in the ditch upside down and with lots of smoke coming out of the wreckage.
4 or 5 cars were stopped near by to look at the accident.

I like to think that I should help.
I think that its depend on the curcumstances.
In the past I've witnessed a car accident and could help the driver. I left when police and others arrived.
When there is nobody else I think everybody will make a very quick balance if they good been of any help (without a lot of danger for themselves) and when the need is big, they don't have the time to consider personal danger. -

In one of the newspapers (De Telegraaf) I read that the war in Iraq has been - for the most - psychological.
So I think you are right Andy. -

You have dealt with extreme pain and troubles.
I can only say that you are “a grown-up” person yet.
To read your story learned me too: Before I was baptized I had gay acquaintances - during my time as a JW, I had a gay friend and found it difficult to act like I always did (knowing that the WTBTS won’t agree) - today he is still a friend (I am glad I never condemned this friendship - I only told him he was a loss for all woman) What I now understand is that he (he has a JW-brother) must have underwent a lot of pain and criticism.
I think no parent will enjoy the fact that a son of daughter is gay or lesbian - most of the time with that kind of relation, there is no “further” there will be no grandchildren no further “joy”.
But all parents, who really love their children, will accept the loves and partners of their children when the out came of that love is that their children are “happy”.
(For JW-parents it is extra difficult because the WTBTS don’t approve)
m0nk3y, thanks for sharing - I wish you and your partner much happiness.
