These are clearly statements of opinion, rather than facts.

It's a shame that many here attack a person who already is the subject of a media assault. My JW experiences taught me not to buy into everything I read. Apparently, others here have yet to learn that lesson.

BTW, the fight will go on. Las Vegas is the real loser, because this fight is likely to be the biggest purse in boxing history.

i notice when i am in chat a lot of people take "smoke" breaks.

i wonder how many of ya'll took up smoking after the left the org?

personally i have tried a ciggy a time or two but didn't really take to it...if i am going to smoke something i want it to make me...uuummm happy

my dad went to work, and didn't bother his co-workers with jw stuff.

One point relating to your initial post in this thread. I'm not sure about the laws of Canada, but in our state and in most of the states of the US, parents have no right to stop their minor children from receiving a blood transfusion if the child's physician deems it necessary to save that child's life.

It is unfortunate indeed that governmental intervention is sometimes necessary to save a child's life because his/her parents place the interests of the WTBTS corporation over the well being of their children.

The JW kids do get the short end of the stick. You forgot to mention the beatings for not being able to sit still at meetings, exploitation of children in JW marketing efforts, forbidden involvement in school sports and activities, inhibited social development via exclusion of "worldly" associations, and discouragement of higher education. To sum it up, JW's work hard to prepare their children to fail in life. Unfortunately, they've been quite successful at it.

my esteemed bro-in-law, who is visiting from out of state, will be the speaker.

actually, i guess technically, my sister invited me, thru my mom of course since she doesn't really associate with me *gag*.

Be careful not to dress too provocatively, or you'll find yourself getting "shepherding calls" (personal visits) from the elders. I would suggest a baggy lime green polyester dress that covers from your neckline to your ankles. Also, be sure not to shower or comb your hair that day. Appropriate attire can most often be found at your local Salvation Army thrift store.

I recommend a smoking session in the parking lot to help you cope with the exhaustive exposure to mindless bibble babble you're going to experience.

Finally, it'll go faster if you get involved. Study the watchtower before you go, and make sure to raise your hand on every question. If you don't know the answer, just say "Jehovah," and they'll give you credit for getting it right. Also, when you're done answering, hang on to the microphone for as long as you can, thereby requiring the droid to think of a way to get it from you each time. Besides entertaining yourself, you'll be helping to stimulate thought in the poor droid's head!

The Beginning of the End for Me?

When I was 14 (22 yrs ago), I got into some trouble with the law of the land and found myself facing a group of elders at my house one evening. I wasn't a baptized JW then or ever. They threatened me that if I didn't repent and stop associating with my best friend (also an ex jw), they would announce me as "disassociated." I still remember their threats: "You're this close (with two fingers in my face) to getting your name announced. Jehovah will withdraw his spirit from you and no one in the congregation will associate with you." I responded: "Great, because I don't want to associate with any of you clowns." I continued to hang out with my best friend, and stopped attending meetings. They never announced my name, probably so they could keep in good graces with my dad who was the grand puba at the time.

By the way, that friend is still my best friend, and is like a real brother to me. His friendship has proven to be invaluable to me over the years, and I'm indeed grateful for the choice I made at the time. The only regret I have is that it didn't happen sooner!

May I suggest a good dose of exercise during this time. A strong body comes with a strong mind, and you're going to need the physical and mental strength to get through the unpleasant aspects of this process. Good luck brother!!!

I think you posted that stuff on Amazon cuz the real you wants out, sooner rather than later. I hate to be the torchbearer of reality, but the JWs don't keep those that question their authority. Your goose is cooked; no more boring, tortuous meetings and assemblies, no more pressured proselytizing, no more abstention from holidays and birthdays, and no more compulsion to risk your life should a medical need arise.

Why don't you beat them to the punch and send them a resignation letter? That way, you'll have the satisfaction of controlling an important moment of your life, instead of giving that control to the elders. You're going to need to get used to controlling your own life after you leave. The realization of how much control they've had over your life will be shocking for you, as it's hard to see it when you're an active part of their organization.

Y R Witnesses so LIFE NEGATIVE?

this is not a fluff post.... hey friends...i got all nostalgic today and for some reason decided to prepare the ultimate talk that i wished i could have given at one of the meetings back yonder when i was a dumb dub.

so, the next best thing is to share it here with you cool folks, and just maybe you might find something here of value.... why are the witnesses so life negative?.

perhaps it comes as a surprise to you that i say that the society has denied life, destroyed life; they have been antagonistic to life, and their god jehovah is against life.

Dear Golddustwoman,

You mention the utopia that is the hope for the JWs. I don't know about you, but the utopia that they dream of does not appeal to me. First, I don't want to live forever. I want to die when it's time. I think when I'm very old I'll be sick of living. Second, imagine a place where everyone is the same, all your needs are satisfied, etc.. It sounds pretty boring to me. I like the excitement right here. I'll enjoy it right through their "armageddon."

A Hawaiian friend told me years ago, "don't be dissatisfied with that which you have, or god will take it away from you." How true that is for the JWs! Since they're dissatisfied with life on earth, god takes it away from them in the form of them having to "endure" (as so aptly put by golddustwoman) rather than getting to enjoy!

I was born and raised a JW, but left it at the tender age of 14, and never looked back (so as to avoid turning into a pillar of salt!). That was 22 years ago. Unfortunately, my extended family still suffers from our involvement, and my siblings have been irreparably harmed.
