Before and after meetings: What was the conversational quality like?

i have been in a number of different congregations over the years, and i have to say that the level of conversation i had with my fellow believers, with a few exceptions, was rather poor.. here are some 'opening' comments.. 1) nice to see you at the meeting.

- i never understood this.

can you imagine going to a company meeting and saying to your fellow worker, 'nice to see you at the meeting'?.

Conversations were always forced because you had to talk to each other. I would have loved to get there one minute before the meeting started and leave 10 seconds after it finished. But no, because as any brother who was on the servant body or any sister who's husband was an elder knows, you HAVE TO chat with everyone because people are watching your every move.

I think it just works in the U.S. I tried my cousins number in Florida and it worked. I tried a few people here in Canada and nothing.

They cannot stand for the national anthem but they can stand for it if they were instructed to stand and sing.

They cannot stand for the national anthem but if they stand up to "get a hot dog" ( at a ball game ) 10 seconds before they are instructed to stand for it, then that's alright.

How much of the bible do JW's really use?

i've noticed over the last several weeks how often the same scriptures are used in meetings at the kingdom hall.. anytime galatians is mentioned you can just about be sure you are going to look up chapter 5 ver.

19.. 2 timothy is going to be 3: 16. i can't remember considering any addional text to get the context of the verse, just reading the same verses over and over.

i'm sure most of you can name lots more scriptures used by jw's.. i think i'm going to start taking notes at meetings and listing which verses are used, then i can look from week to week and see how often the same old verses are considered.

I agree with you. But a JW would say that they cover the whole Bible in the theocratic min school with verses being covered in the #2 talks, the instruction talks and Bible highlights.

New User Hi Everyone

kinda new to the forums, stumbled across this discussion board whilst researching the wt involvement with the un as an ngo, laughed my head off when i found out they got booted cuz everyone gave em a bad rap (serv's em right) http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=311102&categoryid=3459&threadid=1131916&highlight_key=y&keyword1=ngo.

anyway, been a "baptized" jw since 13 at the cow palace (now 20).... been a "questioning" jw since a few months after my "baptism".... still hang around the jw's... heck i was brought up as one from a tot and all of my good friends are jw's... even my girlfriend is a jw..... sigh... i've told her my stance... i'm way more liberal when it comes to religion and spirituality than i was taught to be, and bless the creator, she still loves me.

but anyway i'm at a continuing crossroads, as far as staying or leaving.... i shan't be in this state of mind for much longer but i'm just trying to get good reasons to pack the bags.... if anyone has some "meat" for me to sink my teeth into pass it my way.. haha, wow i'm spilling my guts and no one even knows me yet lol.
