Wow, that sounds very familiar. I did respond. If only I knew then what I know now.
Thanks Gopher, now I'm going to have nightmares again tonight
back around 1980 (i cannot remember the exact year), the speaker at the district convention said that each non-fulltime-pioneer jw should pray to jehovah and explain to him why they cannot pioneer.
if you can't come up with a reason, then you should start pioneering.. if i remember correctly, this counsel was repeated in the pages of the watchtower magazine the following year.. did anyone here respond to this "encouragement"?
i think it pushed me toward pioneering, although i didn't do it for very long.. this was a subtle but powerful guilt trip that tested your loyalty to the organization.

because of another thread i got curious about whether many people have a favourite word.
i've never really gotten over my first love, which was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (seems like there ought to be a comma in there somewhere).
but that's not really a word.

the publications are filled with stupid comments.
elders and others have made some rather dumb statements too.
.....here's what one elder wanted to do to a brother that committed suicide.
We are going to live forever
I grew very very tired of the emotional and mental abuse. This occured in all eight congregations I was in and it occured with many other fine individuals.
So,no it was not a local event but it is a very very common occurance that happens in many places among jw's.
i understand we all need guidance and some people need hope, even if it is not real.
but personally, i believe religion has caused so many hideous crimes against humanity that it is something we would all be better off without.. it really is too bad that religion has capitalized on humankind's need for a divine being to only abuse and control its fellow humans.. so, what do you think?
would we be better of without religion?.
Micheal,
I suggest you read the book: The Power of Now.
After reading it's reviews, I will do just that. I'm sure it will have some benefit, though few answers.
Thank you James
lol...this one kills me.
again this year brothers had to walk the halls carrying signs that said "quiet please" everyone just ignores these poor embarrassed brothers.
the assemblay is going on and yet the halls are full of ppl walking, visiting, cruisin'.
If it is such a loving organization, then why not provide a video of the assemblay for families that can not afford to go?
Because they are the furthest thing from a loving organization. They continually demand the impossible from its members causing many to be on meds, consider suicide or best yet leave that pile of dung forever.

it can eventually reveal that the minds grasping for the ultimate Truth, will always come up empty. Then, there can be a relaxing, a surrender, a letting go, a silent clarity in which intrinsic wisdom can reveal itself.
That is an amazing point my friend.
For such a long time I have been searching, asking, pleading for answers to the most important questions - I have come up completly empty.
I am starting to give up but never accept that I will never find out, at least in this world, the answers I must know to be happy.
