Umm, probably the pagan altar in the living room would be the first clue. I doubt they'd get farther than that...

What outward signs of apostacy are evident in your house?
by AK - Jeff inif the elders came and inspected your home - what would they find?.
a casual look around reveals a box of "narnia" tissues on my desk, 12 or 14 non-witness translations of bibles on my shelves, many non approved novels [wifey's] on the reading table, plenty of 'apostate literature', a book or two on meditation, a hypnosis cd for weight loss, prob many toys that are not witness approved in the g-kids room, a half eaten birthday cake, a birthday balloon, xmas wrapping paper in the closet , a couple of r rated movies, music that is not acceptable.. that is just at first blush.
how is your house?

"what am I gonna tell ____ when we don't see you there?" is one of the more insidious remarks in the elders' arsenal.
Well, depending on how much of a smartass you wanna be...the best reply would be, "What makes you think you're going to be there?"

Why don't she call?????????????????????
Purps, I don't mean to scare you but they may not let her. Not that they have her chained in a dungeon but they want to limit contact with home, friends and family when the new recruits are most likely to be scared and wish they could change their mind.
When my brother joined the Navy he (and my parents, who met the recruiter) was given all kinds of 'promises' about where he would be trained, what he'd be doing, etc. After he took the oath they said, "now that you're obligated...you're going the Great Lakes training center (not Southern Cal...this was in winter) and by the way we can change our mind about everything else you were "promised" before you officially enlisted."
He actually managed to call my parents from the airport (he wasn't supposed to but somehow managed it) in tears, telling them "get me out of this!" Naturally our whole family was horrified. Dad contacted the recruiter and was told "tough, he's ours now"
He got over it to some extent and managed fine, did well as a sailor, proud of his big aircraft carrier and all that...finished out his tour...but the whole experience left a bad taste in his mouth from the very beginning (I think it is very shortsighted of the military to treat people like this because you know it backfires). He got out as soon as his time was up, and afterward, when he got hit up to re-enlist, he said, "you lied to me the first time, you're never getting the chance to do that again."
It's sad, he was excited about the military and it could have been a great thing for him, but once they broke his trust that was it.

Did you get this information on the internet?
Do you deny its accuracy? (don't let them change the actual subject from the information itself to the source of the information...make them deal with the factuality of it)

"Wait on Jehovah"
response:
This is not the advice I was given when I was studying and there were problems in my former church. I was told that the problems and errors in my former church were a sign that they did not have Jehovah's blessing and were false religion. "Get out of her, my people" was the advice you gave me then. I was told I couldn't worry about how much the decision to leave that church and become a JW would distress my family and friends.
Now, when I see the same problems at the Kingdom Hall and throughout the society, I am told to "wait on Jehovah". You try to make me feel guilty about distressing 'the friends' at the hall.
This doesn't make sense. Actually, it's called blatant hypocrisy. I find blatant hypocrisy unacceptable in any group that claims to be lead by God.

Why did Jehovah's Witnesses pay the largest cash settlement in its history?
Fear of setting a precedent that could cost them way more.
Fear of this being admitted into evidence and made part of the court's public record:
That testimony would have included explaining in clear terms how the organizational dynamics, indoctrination and objectives of Jehovah's Witnesses impact individual members and more specifically full-time workers such as Bethelite Jordan Johnson.
Their fear is certainly a wonderful thing, if you're in a position to use it against them.
I'm such a cynic.

I never have read COC. By the time I *would* have read it, I didn't believe anymore so it didn't matter, so I can't comment on that.
However, I really question whether somebody who already believes part or most of what the WT teaches, will accept anything written by an apostate as anything more than a pack of lies trying to turn her away from the truth.
I liked what another poster wrote about group mind control tactics.
Since she has a child and has said she'd be willing to break the rules for him, print out a bunch of news articles about the pedophile/coverup issue.

Being told over and over again...and reading over and over again... how Jehovah's wonderful, clean, fair organization is different from other religions and wrongdoing or unfairness "didn't happen". Men didn't terrorize their wives, parents weren't horrible to their children, people didn't get away with breaking the rules...and seeing it all happen over and over again in the congregation and get covered up. And getting threatened not to "gossip" about it.
The hypocracy just got to me, how we were told over and over again that JWs were different and 'Jehovah's rules and regulations' (about every little damned thing) were enforced...then being told to "wait on Jehovah" when it didn't turn out to be true.
WTF? Wait on Jehovah??? That's not what you told me when I was studying. You told me to "get out of false religion". So why all of a sudden is this different??
That's one advantage of being an adult convert, if you can manage to think for yourself long enough to realize the hypocracy.
