FYI I don't think that Simon is unamerican or antiamerica so much as just closed minded and bigoted on this issue. Englishman more than him by far but Simon keeps opening the door. The show like the BBC is just propaganda. Simon hates Bush and likes to use his web site as a means to vent his propaganda filled head. And for now he has an audience. We love and respect him. It is to bad that his hate for American political affairs is more important to him than us.

The only way to deal with a whiney left thinker (most of whom have been passive for quite a while) is to not give them anyone to listen to. Soon that will be where we are. But for now Simon can enjoy the flaming wars he has a passion for.

Suppose, for the sake of argument, that this is true - that the Bush administration told a big whopping lie about its motive(s). Does this show that the war was unjustified? Not at all. First, motives are not reasons. A badly motivated person can do the right thing (by accident, as it were), just as a well-motivated person can do the wrong thing. That this is so is reflected in a number of common sayings, such as "It's the thought that counts," "The road to hell is paved with good intentions," and "You did the right thing for the wrong reason." The first two suggest that the act is wrong but well-meaning, the third that the act is right in spite of its poor or improper motivation.

Third, suppose President Bush in fact had no reputable motive in going to war. Suppose he had only disreputable motives, such as defending his daddy's honor. Does this show that the war is unjustified, morally speaking? Again, the answer is no. Justification is objective; motivation is subjective. The war can be justified as an act of self-defense or liberation of a people (to name just two of many justifications) even if the person waging the war doesn't understand it in those terms - even if he or she doesn't view those as justifications. For consider: Either there is a justification for the war (objectively speaking) or there is not. If there is, then it doesn't matter what motivated President Bush. If there isn't, then it doesn't matter what motivated President Bush. Either way, it doesn't matter what motivated President Bush.

As far as the justification of war in Iraq is concerned, President Bush's motives are irrelevant. Why, then, has the public debate focused so sharply, to the point of harping, on his motives? Why the constant refrain to the effect that the war is "about oil" or a way to "finish what his father started" or an attempt to "distract attention from the economy"? I have racked my brain for an answer to this question. I believe it is one part hatred of the president and all that he stands for, and one part confusion. The philosopher, qua philosopher, can deal with the latter. Perhaps a psychotherapist will have to be called in to deal with the former.

SP I don't think that you go far enough. The demand is that the US has something to appologize to Europe about. It ain't gona happen. They are part of the problem not the solution. Bush may not be the solution but removing Saddam and lifting santions rebuiling that country and letting it rejoin the world as a free nation no doubt is definatly the solution for that Nation. It is also a beaken and warning for others.

No, I wouldn't get bent out of shape over it as I've demonstrated several times (in fact, look at the other topic). To do so would be DUMB and make me look like AN IDIOT !

Until I got my first taste of prejudice in my face long term, not a comment or an event, where I was unpopular but because of who I am, the color of my skin, and where I am from, people were hostile and rude to me. People in stores would not even wait on me. They asked me to leave to store. It was on the Big Island. I was a howley and after several days (weeks) of it I was very glad to leave there. But, I never forgot it. Black people and minorities who complain about societies treatment of them are right on. All I can say is every time I feel the bigot bone in me I recall those memories. If you were labled long term Simon even over something stupid to you in your comfort zone, you would not have the same attitude.

Simon has been posting some topics about the war. He is entitled to an opinion on one most important events in the world in recent times.

No Simon is not anti-American for being against the war or for hating GW Bush. He is not even anti American for hating me. But he is bias to accuse me of being a Fox news groupie without looking at the information that is presented him. He is a propagandist to not admit that he is wrong about the Museum looting. He is bias to keep pimping the BBC without fail when the bias and lies are exposed. He commands that people stop posting war flame threads but keeps doing it himself because he is angry and wants to flame his bigotry towards Americans. He is two faced to say he is not bias when he singles out myself and one other person for overposting when my posting articles is a direct counter to Mark who fancies his opinion and agenda. Rather than address the issues or sources counter to his he attacks me on an emotional level. He has offered squat in other ways of addressing CWP's accept total apathy. He says I twist his word but all I do is point out his bias to him. Which I will continue to do in kind minus posting articles on the board because the first time he started attacking me I told him that this is his board and I will respect him in the sense that with one word I will drop something that goes to far. I never thought he would abuse the respect factor. He is bias, promotes bigotry, and is being a horses butt on the board. Do I still like him? Yes, he created the board how can I not? But, I look forward to when his strife and propaganda campaign end. 2008 is a long ways away.

News flash- Western Europe is not the world, sorry to burst the bubble. There are are tasty markets far outside the boarders of Germany and France. The UK as well but, they have a habit of pulling their head out of their arse at the last second. The citizens and their leaders are stupid but until Ruby's post I didn't think they were suicidal. At the moment of drowning in the st*t they create they cry for a rope to save them. Usually it's the yanks who pull their sorry butts from the brink of disaster. This time the Average American would step on a Euro's hand I think.

I think that W. Europe will be getting the middle finger from the US for a long, long time. We are not interested in "restoring" the love from Europe any more than most of us "feel" a need to "restore" the love of the WT. Both can go strait to hell as far as I am concerned.

You are right Simon I've never been to Iraq. (Maybe it doesn't really exist. Maybe Bush made the Nation up for poll ratings.) Did you hear that GW and Cheney were the real 9/11 highjackers? They jumped just prior to impact. (BBC is doing a mockumentary)

I was put down for trying to expand your understanding of the Middle East through the book "The Threatening Storm." I now see the stupidity of such an attempt. So, in the spirit of understanding that some people's bias is just to great for common sense I now recommend "In The Eye of The Threatening Storm." It is an Arab authored book about GW Bush and his America. One great comment is how Saddam does not fuel Israeli/Palistinian conflicts via support of terrorism. Only 70% of Palistinan funding went to terrorist bombers. ONLY 70%! I know you will enjoy it. I'm sorry for suggesting books, documentaries, and other sources of information outside the BBC. I understand how arrogant that must seem to you.

What gets my goat is not that you don't like America/GW Bush/American policy domestic or abroad. It's your right to an opinion. What gets me is how obvious your BBC bias is and you are blind to it. Actually Saddam and Chirac have a long alliance going back to the 80's. Do some research guy. The others had very lucrative oil and goods contracts with Iraq. Pleasuredome talked about the dollar/Euro issues and was ignored. Everything seems black and white with you. Bush is bad and the whole world is against the US (at least you hope.) Like I have suggested before the book "World on Fire" by chau will give you cannon fodder that no American can refute. BTW Did you know that the BBC reports about the looting of the Iraqi museum was a total fabrication? That's right Realist they lied to the world. 170,000 peices were not distroyed or stolen they were put in a secret underground vault.
