It is pretty presumptous to tell someone what they can discuss if it isn't rude or obscene.

Is it just me or has this site become a Believer/Atheist warzone?
by BU2B ini enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.
i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.
it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.

Can anyone explain love?
by mrhhome inwe have had a variety of theist vs atheist debates on this forum.
usually, it devolves (or evolves?
) into a debate on what can or cannot be proven.. so let's step back a second.

We have had a variety of theist vs atheist debates on this forum. Usually, it devolves (or evolves?) into a debate on what can or cannot be proven.
So let's step back a second. Hypothethically, Christians worship a God of love. The great commandmant is "Love God. Love your neighbor." If we want to understand God, shouldn't we be trying to understand "love"?
What is it? Why does it exist?

To answer the original question, I have to agree with those who believe that the theist vs atheist debates are healthy. It is good for a doubting JW to see communities where people can openly disagree without being shunned. It is also good for those who have just left the organization to have a healthy debate as they figure out what they really believe.
The name calling and insults are not healthy. It re-enforces the belief that non-JW hate JW and anyone else who believes in God. Generally speaking, it seems that the name calling seems to come from the atheists.

As much as I think that agnostic is a legitimate label, could someone who is a agnostic provide a definition?

Survey: Who Here Believe In God/The Bible? Who Are Not Sure? Who Do Not Believe?
by minimus ini think there are many that still want to believe in a god but just aren't sure.. personally, do you believe in a god?.
are you a "spiritual" person?.

(1) I believe in a God that is beyond comprehension. The universe is infinite, and we are finite. Consequently, we can only comprehend God and his universe symbolically.
(2) The Bible is a collection of stories about our relationship with God and each other. While it may have been written by man, it has plenty of wisdom and real spiritual power. It is not intended to be a history or science text.
(3) Given (1), anyone who attempts to take a literal view of the Bible or insist on a narrow and strict interpretation of doctrine will get themselves and anyone listening to them wrapped around the axle.
(4) When I was younger, I used to think that mystics were a bunch of dangerous freaks who strayed from scripture. With age, I realize that they may be some of the only ones really seeking God. [Take note that I did not say doing God's work.]

Hi Space Madness,
I confess that I have been wondering for a few days how to respond to this post. I am conflicted on this subject.
(1) On personal level, I feel bad that you feel that you are in a tailspin. These things have a way of working themselves out eventually. I know that it is difficult to see when you are in the middle of it, but they do.
(2) Going back to the Witnesses is going to cause you more harm in the long run. Someday you are going to be married and have children. Do you want them brought up in that organization? Do you want to lose your wife and children when someone finds out how you really feel? As bad as it may seem now, it can get much, much worse.
(3) Have you tried joining a church? For that matter, join a budhist group. If you walked up to someone who is spiritually mature and explained your situation, I think that you will find start finding some friends. Try a couple until you find someplace that you fit in. Unfortunately, the JW are not unique in the dysfunctionality. You may find some nuts in other organizations as well. Heck, take up Karate or BJJ. Join a gym. Something but subject yourself to the JW.
(4) As someone who would like to see the Witness organization self-destruct, there is nothing better than having people who do not believe in their organization going through the motions. Go for it. Bring some other apostates back with you.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Regards,
Mike

As for myself, married a DA'ed ex-JW. She had been through a whole bunch of "stuff." Despite my general disgust, I kept my opinions to myself for 13 years. One day my brother-in-law was pressured into shunning my wife at a funneral. That day, I took the gloves off.
At the moment, my mother-in-law seems to trying to make peace. Consequently, I am showing some restraint. However, I am trying to make sure that everyone understand that this nonsense is NEVER going to happen again.
