Cofty, you have sufficiently illustrated my point. Further elaboration is not needed.

The life differences between a good christian and good athiest
by EndofMysteries inlet's compare a christian who goes to a non judgemental / non guilt trip church which focuses really on the gospels, jesus teachings on being non judgemental, anything out of love there is no law against, and they contribute to society.
then an athiest who if you put side by side w/ the above christian, you would not know any difference unless you asked their beliefs.
both are good people, who are able to lead lives doing what they want, enjoying their life, and trying to help their neighbors too.

Is it just me or has this site become a Believer/Atheist warzone?
by BU2B ini enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.
i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.
it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.

jgnat...I think you know that my comments were not directed at you. Your points are articulate and thought provoking.
There are some here, however, who like to beat people with broad categorical statements about science who obviously do not understand much about it.

No, targeting crofty is completely fair. I do not go around picking fights, but when I find someone being rude, I will call them on it.

Cofty, I am not baiting you. I am making a plain, simple statement. You have established a pattern of bouncing on people. I am going to return the favor. You are rude, and your arguments lack depth. Cut it out.

Respectfully, the premise of this thread is flawed. Christians and atheist live their lifes differently. You can tell when you are around them. Obviously, that is a generality. You may find some Christians that are obnoxious and some atheist who try to get along with their neighbors, but statistically speaking, you are fooling yourself if you think that there is no difference between how a Christian and an atheist conduct themselves.

cofty,
Normally, I do not like bouncing, but you are being obnoxious. You sure like talking about science and logic but do you actually have any training in science? Your responses are emotional and your logic cliches.

How may of you who cite science and discuss philosophy are (a) scientist and (b) read any philosophy?

Wow. Maybe this place has become a warzone. My opinions.
(1) The references to the "Flying Spaghetti Monster" are a legitmate way of making points. Yes, it may be offensive to theist. However, the theist need to deal with it. Just like the atheists need to learn to deal with people talking about salvation.
(2) FHN makes some very valid points about the tone of the discourse. The title question "Is it just me or has this site become a Believer/Atheist warzone?" Addressing the tone of the discourse is completely relevant.
(3) Now time for direct confrontation. Cofty, your behavior on this thread has really been poor. You have repeatedly engaged in personal attacks.
I have said it before and I will say it again. (a) The atheist seem to engage in personal attacks more frequently than the theists. (b) The name calling is not conducive to spreading the word about TATT. It reinforces what the JW say about non-believers. What do you think a doubting JW will think when they stumble across this board?

Can anyone explain love?
by mrhhome inwe have had a variety of theist vs atheist debates on this forum.
usually, it devolves (or evolves?
) into a debate on what can or cannot be proven.. so let's step back a second.

Not all "love" can be explained away with hormones and chemicals. If I am happy to see an old buddy who is grey and fat, I am certainly not motivated by any hormones. I doubt that I would be even if I was a woman.
While I am intriqued by jgnat's idea of "native instinct to altruism" to explain "love for our neighbor", I disagree. In my experience, most of our natural experiences are selfish. I may be convinced that it is a learned response. Life is general better if you get along with your neighbor than if you are throwing stones at each other.

rawe,
I agreed with the following statement.
Science is rooted in materialism, the "I believe what I can measure" sort. You are very right, this does put limits on what we can know and discover.
I fully understand the scienctific process. I also have a good grasp of logic. However if something exists outside our currently understanding of "science", does that mean it does not exist? How does one explore it even with philosophy? Ultimately, you need to build on some basic tenets, and depending on how far one is reaching, those basic tenets may be difficult to prove.
