  When my daughter graduated from high school, in our congregation there were 6 kids graduating at the same time. We all thought wouldn't it be great if we all pooled our money together and had a really nice graduation party for the kids. Sounded great to me. Until "Sister Spiritual" decided, and got the others to agree that no wordly people are to be invited. Keep in mind most of the family members of the other kids were in the "truth". So the other kids would get to have their Grandma's and Grandpa's in attendance and other loved ones.

  Since my daughter's Grandma, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins are wordly that would mean that she couldn't have her closest family members, that she loves dearly, attend her graduation party. Needless to say, since we were paying some of the costs and couldn't invite any of our family we backed out, we had our own party. It wasn't as spectacular, but my daughter could include her family.

  The Witness apply the scripture at Proverbs 18:1 to the weak ones, or to us ones that want to fade away and leave this religion...... "One isolating himself will seek his own selfish longing; against all practical wisdom he will break forth." But I think this scripture really applies to the JW's, they are the ones that are isolating themselves from the rest of the world. They are so frightened of having their own spiritually being tarnished by so called "wordly" people or by "undesirables", that they just can't behave in a normal civilized way. All they care about is saving their own skin.

  my b-day is tomorrow...

  don't mean to toot my own horn but this year i will be 44 and i feel great!!!

  two of my daughters tried baking my cake today and burned both of them....soooo funny!!

  i also like things that have to do with double numbers etc...my husband says i am strange.

  What Regrets Did You Have Because You Were A Witness?

  one of the biggest regrets a person might have is that they let their children become involved in the whole jw "thing".

  you know---everything from the elders always cornering them to "investigate" something or even having the parents "turn in" their own kids......is there anything that you especially regret?

  Raising my daughter in this religion.

  I wasted 26 years of my young adult life in this cult.

  I gave up college (I was in my first year of college when I joined)

  Can never wish my Dad happy birthday, give him a Father's day card, or celebrate the holidays with him ( he died 13 years ago)

  Backyard rinks... I was out skating on mine for the first time today

  what a great thing to do.

  this is my first one and i have to admit it was a lot of work getting it ready, but thanks to unseasonably freezing temps in southern ontario, the ice is great.

  the kids are just loving it.

  What memories. I was born in Canada and lived in Toronto when I was a young child. My dad would build us backyard ice rinks in the winter. I was a little tike then, but I still have a vivid memory of those rinks. So much fun!!

  Is your marriage healthier now that you're out?

  i already know how some of you will answer.

  i realize that some dear friends here have lost their spouse due to their jw "awakening", but for those of you where both of you are now out, do you feel you are a better husband or wife because of the experience?

  even if your spouse is still in, do you feel you are a better husband/wife?

  Billygoat, as for relationships outside of my marriage. None of my family were ever involved with the JW's. So yes, my relationship with my family has improved tremendously. They are glad to have me back in the normal world. Although they don't understand what's totally involved in leaving this religion, I have since educated them, but still sometimes they look at me like I have two heads.

  Rick Aust I agree it probably wasn't a good Idea for me to stop going to meetings cold turkey. I planned on being sporadic in my meeting attendance. I just couldn't take it anymore.

  Thanks Special K for the hug. I really needed that. I guess I just get down sometimes. Life is not perfect I know, mostly I'm a pretty happy camper though. My hubby is a real good guy, I love him so much. I got to focus on that, and not let the JW thing get in the way. Getting out of the JW religion is like getting out of a spider web. Do we ever get out?

  My husband is still a JW, I walked away from the JW religion 2 years ago. We've been married for 30 years, we were not witnesses when we were married.

  I hate to say this but I feel our marriage has defiantly suffered. I want to move on, but I feel that I can't because of him being a JW. I'm not df or da'd, but I feel that he still expects me to still follow JW rules. I can't be myself around him, there are so many things that I hide about myself, how I feel and think about different things, but can't express them to him. I refuse to lie to him but we have a "don't ask, don't tell" thing going on.

  For example the holidays, I bought Christmas gifts for family members (my family is all non JW's). He saw them (one gift was rather large), but he never asked if they were for Christmas. He didn't say a word and neither did I.

  There's so many things I want to tell him and talk to him about. But there's this huge wall. We really need to talk things out, but there's this huge barrier between us.

  He doesn't even want to talk anymore about why I left the JW religion, I'm on my own. I had to go through the pain of leaving this religion on my own. Kept it all inside.

  When I first left the JW religion, I told him why I took my stand. He seems to respect it. But I live through the fear that our marriage will break up over this. I can't help feel that he is ashamed of me, especially when we are around other JW's.

  I try to respect his right to be a JW. But sometimes I feel so angry and I do take it out on him. But I tell myself that I have to respect his right to chose to be a JW, just as I want him to respect me in the choice that I made, to not be a JW.

  I can't change him, I can only change myself. I know that I need to not use the excuse of him being a JW to keep me from living my life. If I do, I am still following JW rules.

  Basically in a nutshell, we are both ignoring the elephant in our living room :-)
