Is Jehovah taking aim at the apostates?
by kenpodragon inwhen i was a witness, we would sometimes get people who were disfellowshiped or disassociated that protested the assemblies or kingdom hall.
perhaps there are a few who have done this on this board.
i remember a few comments made by people in the congregation when they saw these people.

In watching stories of murderers being put to death and hearing the thoughts of the family membersbefore and after the exucution one thing always stood out in my mind. The family members who witnessed the exucutions were never satisfied with the exucution. No matter what the murderer said in his final statement the family would belitle the statement. I saw that most victims were never fully satisfied with the punishment given to the culprit. They never felt justice was truly dealt.
Just as the view of JWs toward apostates- what would make ex-jws happy? What would have to happen to the WT to truly satisfy us? Just as the JW has a judgemental attitude toward apostates- wishing thier death, calling them evil- so too the apostates call the GB evil calling for their demise.. Would the JW be happier if apostates no longer existed? I don't think so. Why? They are trained to have that enemy. Would the average JW truly be happy in the new order when all believe as they do? I doubt it- who will they hate then? On the other hand- will the apostate be happy if the WT changes their policy toward pediphiles? Probably not. Most want to see the whole doctrine changed. Then, if the WT changed its entire doctrine would the apostate be happy? I doubt it. We would still have the need to grumble about our experiences with the WT- We might shout with glee that the big bad org fell- but them we would have a void. Where could we then place our hate? We would at one point tire of saying "they did not fall soon enough" The fall was not hard enough" "look at all the poor people that suffered in the org for over a century"
Dragon is right in my opinion- until we can love without judgement we will never find justice....

Silentlambs, The Letter, The World, and Justice.
by BeautifulGarbage infirst off, let me express that bill bowen would not know me from any stranger on the street.
i have never spoken with him, or have i ever corresponded with him.
the only information that i have of him is what i have read of him on this forum and on silentlambs.org.

Silent Lambs seems to have more than one agenda. The first, as stated at silentlambs.org, is aiding and supporting abuse vicitms. The second seem to be the forcable change in WT policy.
In analyzing the first agenda it seems that silent lambs caught unexpectedly with such great numbers of alledged abuse victims. The last time I checked any callers to silent lambs were calling Bill Bowen directly. From my experience and the others I have heard about Mr Bowen makes a sole decision as to which victims silent lambs gets involved with. Just as Mr Bowen has argued that the WT has no trained counselers in place to deal with these issues- it seems as though Silent Lambs sits on equal ground. Should'nt trained professional be making the call as to whether a case is credible or not? Or does Mr Bowen posses some training that we are not aware of? Are mass lawsuits and apprearnces in court to sue the WT all that silent lambs has to offer? Where are the therapists? Now that this has come this far how will silent lambs respond to " What are you doing for the vicitms?
What I see: Silent lambs - supports criminal prosecution of alledged prediphiles.
supports civil suits against the WT or local congregations
If it were ever asked what real vicitm aid is being given to abuse victims- well I have not heard anything about professional help for these guys. Does a simpathetic ear aid the victim? It does provide encouragement. But what if the law suits do not bring financial benefit to the abused? Has a case yet been won? I do know that some pediphiles have been convicted and incarcerated due to possible encouragement by silent lambs.
Back on point though- It seems to me that Mr Bowen is still seeing things through JW eyes. This alone could hinder his ability to manage this effectuvely day to day.
The letter- could Mr Bowen believe that he can develop a case against the WT by doccumenting his efforts to get them to follow their own procedures? If so, would any such be effective from silent lambs considering that he has no stand in the WT org any longer? The WT seems to view this in one angle- we report when the law says we have to report. Then if a body of elders or a single elder does otherwise the WT effectively distances themselves from those or that elder. Mr Bowen knows this all to well from his personal experience. Has he got a ace up his sleeve? Maybe. But we are back to the same quesiton- What, in reality is silent lambs doing for abuse victims? Is it all about changing WT policy? Is it a personal vendetta? Are there professional, trained people who are qualified to screen applicants for silent lambs support? And, other than court cases and marches what is silent lambs doing for the victims? If silent lambs does not have trained qualified profesisonals to deal with the abuse victims it mutes their argument that the elders are not trained professionals in dealing with abuse victims- at least in my opinion.
Those are the questions that I have.

As a footnote Mr Bowen- I remember as I was reading the bible during my trials with the WT I ran across a passage in Job, one that the WT never really harped on- where Job actually told Jehovah that Jehovah was wrong- have you ever read that passage? Jehovah did not get upset with Job nor did he say "How dare you accuse me of wrong"- Jehovah reasoned with Job in a loving way. I made that scripture a theme of one of the many letters I wrote- Of course no reply was given.
Actually in the letter to the elders and the GB I referred to this passage and stated that I would have been better off having accused Jehovah of wrongdoing than the WT....

Boy I remember when I had hair on my head and I started running- one lap killed me- then something clicked (lost my sanity) and I ran 10 miles- it seemed to be more of a mindset than a physical thing.

Mr Bowen- though I do not agree to some of your ways, you have made a dent and you are doing something. True, from where you sit- I am doing nothing. I, like most here, applaud your efforts. After organizing such a movement we that have had so much history in the org do not want to see your efforts go to waste- thus our criticisms. Most of us, I beleive, that critisized so harshly here, did so because we believe the cause is worthy. And maybe, Bill, we are saddened that the things that complicate our lives does not allow us to the time to be more involved in the efforts. In my case I have a 22 year old son that lost both of his feet just three months ago. I cannot speak for the others that have been critical of your letter or some of your actions- but in my case it was an effort to give a a viewpoint that may help bring balance to the movement.
Many of us here have been through what you have recently been through. In my case I did write numerous letters- only to look at them later and realize how useless and silly they were. I have seen the marches in Brooklyn over the years. And my father witnessed many demonstrations at conventions in the 50's and 60's.
I trust that all here support the cause and the words of criticism are well meaning. Though admittedly they are foreign to most jw's. as you are all to aware critcism is not well accepted in the WT. That is why people here express themselve loudly- we have found our voice and thank god for it.
