judging by bush's recent comments and the recommendation that the un inspectors leave iraq, it looks like the war will be starting any day now.. i wonder if bush intentionally timed it so that things would be starting on st. patricks day the day that commemorates the saint who drove the snakes from ireland.

I have listened intently to what Bush has to say about Iraq and what his administraion and the UN has said. Though Bush has said over and over that Sadam has weapons of mass destruction, has harbored terrorists and supplied terrorists with weapons of mass destruction that endanger americans the UN has not been able to locate these alledged weapons, not been able to prove production of such weapons and have proved that doccuments provided by the US were indeed forgeries. But given how perrsistant Bush has been that such weapons do exist and that Iraq has ties to the events of 9-11 I decided to spend some time in research and thought in trying to figure out what Bush keeps referring to.
SInce the terrorists were mostly saudi nationals and the money was traced to saudi sources then those are ruled out as coming from Iraq. SO that leaves the four aircraft. Since these were commercial aircraft- not made in Iraq, and there is no indication that Sadam has any interest or control over the manufacturer of the aircraft or the owners of the aircraft I must conclude that these four planes can not be the weapons of mass destruction that Bush keeps referring to that Iraq supplied to terrorists. SO, this leaves just one other item- the box cutters. It must be concluded that when forensics were being done as the investigators dug through the rubble of 9-11 that they indeed found the box cutters used by the terrorists. When these box cutters were looked at closely they found wording stamped on one side that said: "Made in Iraq" On the other side of the box cutters they found inscribed: " Inspected by S. Hussein".
It is truly understandable why Bush would not share this intteligence with the UN or for that matter with the world.
Just outside Bagdad is a small factory and the sign at the factory identifies the building as "Box Cutters R Us". The poor UN insepctors were all the while searching for antrax and missles. Little did they know why they were not finding the weapons of mass destruction that Bush kept speaking of. Each day these poor inspectors unwittlingly walked right by the weapons of mass destruction and the factory where they were made as they went for coffee.

having had a bizzare (for a european) preoccupation with american history in the 19th c, i do find that current american foreign policy still has implict in it the religiously inspired rationale that enabled americans to seriously claim that the ethnic cleansing of the west, and the genocidal behaviours that this often entailed, was because god wanted them to do it.. from certain newspaper articles i've read it seems as if some of those in the white house believe that bush getting in despite not having the majority of the popular vote was a sign, and that 9/11 backed up their belief that bush was a man put in a certain place for a certain time and role.
that bible studies are a regular expected activity of white house staffers.. now, this makes me very nervous.
i prefer my religious fanatics to come from developing countries that may have weapons of mass destruction, rather than from the most powerful millitary country in the world with more weapons of mass destruction than the rest of the world put together.. obviously just because it was in a newspaper doesn't mean it's true (yesterday's guardian i think).. but what do you think?.
My answer in a nutshell:
I recently caught a tv interview with Jerry Falwell- the ultra right wing religious fanatic. He stated that he was never invited to the white house during the Clinton admin. But since Bush has been prez it is is second home. He wants four more years of Jr and then Jeb.
And under the Bush admin he was proud to announce that he was on his way to buy a new Hummer!

Guest77 no wonder the usa leads the world in tv evangilist and cults- One great statesman in this country back during WWI stated that the American people are the easiest to deceive. Millions flock to the popular tone of the day. Memories are too short and few take time to read and digest. Bush as all politicians love the cable news fast food type media. It makes selling thier non-content programs so much easier.
For those that desire to make comparisons between the demos and the repubs- bottom line is there is little difference.
What I chuckle about is that the repubs bash Clinton for his low morals and praise the likes of Bush. All I can see from where I sit is the result thier lives have had on thier children- Jeb and Jr have daughters with substance abuse problems while the daughter of the imoral clinton seems to be fairing so well.
Yes Bushes cry is: "We will have peace even if it means war!" Isnt there a name for that kind of sentence? I am not a doomday prophet, but Bush is intent on his mission- screw the rest of the world! He says we must attack sadam for violating a UN resolution even if we have to disrespect the UN to carry out the mission. No one catches this stuff. He holds the UN at no higher repsect than sadam LOL!

Thank you for sharing! I was a victim of such punishment as a child back in the 50s and 60s. Harsh it was. Though I was never sexually abused it was severe. The kind of fear that it put into one as a child was not a healthy, respectful fear. Back in those days such punishment was commonplace and well accepted in the oorganization. And if you cried it got more severe! No, it was not good. It left a permanant wedge between me and my father that never quite healed.
As I grew older and my eyes were opened as to the religion we were a part of I did begin to forgive my father. He was a simple and sincere man who bought the dogma and really believed that he was doing right. They stole his entire life from him, my childhood and a good part of my adult life.
