Excuse me? You are claiming that I have gone overboard and streched things a bit too much with exaggeration!!? I am almost too shocked that YOU have the nerve to say that about me after your posts.

Kids in this day and age needs to be kept an eye on in any way possible. When they reach the "rebel" age of a teenager, they will test the authority of the parents as well as society as a whole to see how much they can get away with.

Is this the same person posting in this name? Any way does not exclude intrusive and intimidating methods. Your post was unballenced.

This smacks of Watchtower paranoiaism. I shan't repeat what I said in my previous post. But frankly your sentiments stink.

Are you saying that a 13 year old daughter's room shouldn't be checked for drugs or possibly a boyfriend hiding the closet so the b/f can have sex with your daughter and possibly get her pregnant?

But your examples are extreem and do not reflect the general mentality of kids. You are a hypacrite Yizman.

Kids in this day and age needs to be kept an eye on in any way possible. When they reach the "rebel" age of a teenager, they will test the authority of the parents as well as society as a whole to see how much they can get away with. Kids at the teenage level will want to exert their "independence" and feel "adult" to make decisions for themselves, but often times, kids can tend to carry on too far. At times kids will get sick of the authority of the parents and rebel against them, even if possible, to the extreme.

You condone surpressing this "independance" with all you've got? I don't agree with pairent's getting into trouble for saying no to their kids, but come on! (My first thought when I read that was it must be an exageration, but then again, after seeing some of your US tv like Richi Lake etc, I thought maybe not)

Please!!! I feel like I'm reading the Watchtower reading some of the comments on this thread! A big hand ought to come down from the sky and give some of you a big slap across the face!

Some kids need extra attention, but not all. Some pairents need watching. Hey, is one of you guys Carrie's mother? Have any of you heard of child abuse? It's not always done by dirty old men in big coats, it's done by pairents who have got it in their heads that they should surpress any sign of independance in their children. I bet some of you white Texans fear the day when your kids grow up and start erroniously thinking to themselfs that ther is nothing wrong with black people!! Gee Wiz! We want to keep an eye out for that!!

i have a friend who is a jehovah witness.

once we started talking about prayer, and i told him that we referred to god as 'lord', or 'god', or 'father', for reverence or respect, although we did not have prohibited to say jehovah.

he said that i was wrong, that it was necessary to state that the prayer was for jehovah and not any other god.

I do however, want to point out that you would never hear a jw say it is ok to pray to Yahweh.

Are you sure DJ? what about non english speaking JW's? I bet in some language or other Jehovah is pronounced more like Yahweh. But yes, it is a tlisman to the JW's. They are oddly superstitious. A person who has never been superstitious in their life, once they becone a JW is so determined to NOT be superstitious, they will go through some extrordinary lengths to avoid Demons. It practically becomes a new kind of superstition.

On the issue of God's name being pronounced 'Jehovah', even though it was more likely pronounced 'Yahweh' I do not think that 'Jehovah' is inconsistant. How many Hebrew names from the bible begin with a 'Y' in English? None! The reason is because the Hebrew letter 'Yod' is consistently changed to 'J' in english. Hence we have such words as 'Jerusalem', 'Joshuah', 'Jordan', 'Jerico', etc. These all begin with 'Yod' in hebrew, but no one causes a fuss saying they are mispronounced. 'W' is changed to 'V' as in David. If you dont like 'Jehovah' being an English translation of the tetragramiton, go speak German!

It is true that the name of God 'Jehovah' or 'Yahweh' has been unfairly removed from english translations of the bible for no plausable reason, however, the truth is that God nowhere actually "comanded" his name TO be used. He did, however, FORBID its use in vien.

Your friends interperatation of Matt 6:9 is only how he reads it. It does not actually SAY we should use it. Making the name a secrat is also making it sacred. He is reading into that scripture something that is not actually there.

By God's word there are no other gods! Only false gods. The bible has examples of prayers where God's name is not used.

I forget the scripture he is alluding to about the demons, however to my memory the 'demons know there is one God and shudder!' Simply knowing the esistance of the one God makes them shudder. Where does it say they flee at the sound of God's name? Again he is reading into the scriptures what is not actually there.

In summery, what he believes is a result of how he has been 'trained' to read the scriptures. He has not come to this belief from the scriptures himself. When you actually examine what you have learned, you realise that not everything the 'Society' teaches is founded on scripture.

I don't know any references, but I'm sure that Homosexuality was common in ancient Greece and Rome. I don't know where I heard that though. (Oh come to think of it, it might have been a Watchtower of Awake!)

I wouldn't like to think My mum had put a hidden camera in my bedroom when I was a teenager!! Still, as regards kids plotting to murder their cousins, well, they need psychiatric help big time. But then, for no falt of the pairents, some kids really do need monitoring.

I guess this is a case where the need for security has to be ballenced, and can so easily be abused. Imagine if some JW pairents decided to do survailence on their kids! Could they mess them up more than they already do?

It all boils down to the ethics of the pairent using this new found power. If the pairents are controll freaks, they could screw up their kids big time. If the pairents are genuinely being concirned (and not misguided concirn as with JW's and other fanatics) well, the poor kids have no hope.

It's so simple -- Matthew 24

so here i was this evening, reading the old familiar matthew 24 with the kids before bedtime, but i was reading out of our very nice contemporary parallel new testament, specifically the message version, and i had this sudden realization: jesus didn't give us a really complicated, mysterious prophecy that had different types and antitypes -- he was simply continuing his original message (love your neighbor, love god).

remember verse 12 about the love of the many cooling off?

the verse right after that talks about enduring to the end.
