Pastor Russell and the Colored Friends
by Kenneson inkeeping in mind that charles taze russell began publishing the watch tower in 1879, it is interesting to note that as early as may, 1882 (zion's watch tower), copies had made their way down to caledonia, mississippi where an unnamed colored congregational minister had also recently read "food" and "tabernacle.
" he wrote to russell begging for a copy of the emphatic diaglott since he couldn't afford it.
in the june issue russell replies: "the colored minister who desired a diaglott has been supplied.

New System, is it real?
by phil78 ini read a thread recently asking was anyone upset about loosing the new system - or words to that effect.
i shooda asked then, but whats that all about?.
isn't the teaching correct?

No one said that the New System isn't real, at least that is not what I implied in my thread at New System or Next World. What is being discussed is a possible change in terminology from New System to Next World. In the context in which Next World was used in the public talks, it referred to the same thing as New System.

Next World instead of New System

Mark,
I had similar thoughts. It could signify a change from "urgency" of the imminent "New System" or "New World" in JW thought-ology to the more staid "Next World" that is commonly spoken of in the world at large. That would go against the breathless pace that heretofore has been the norm for the WTBTS. So this scenario is more than probably wrong.
But, since this came from a District Overseer, it probably means more than his own private speculation. But what? Any other thoughts? -

Guess I am showing my age. You are correct, of course, "New System" is more currently used. My question is, why the change now? Is it because a lot of JW folks are visibly dying off and the "New System" has to be pushed into the background by switching to "Next World?"

Perhaps, but somehow I don't think so. It is annoying when new terminology is introduced without any explanation though. "Next World" has a kind of spooky, occult connotation to most JW's, and yet no one was observed to question this term. When asking about it, all I could raise were shrugs as replies.

Heard at a recent Circuit Assembly:
The D.O. repeatedly mentioned the "Next World" instead of the "New World" or "New Order." He used the term once talking about a brother that was awaiting intensive surgery to correct a life threatening condition. All in all, the term was used several other times as well referring to what used to be called the "New World."
Why the change in terminology? -

Moderators! Please delete Czar's last message or at least the names mentioned here. It is not anyone's place to announce these names save the individuals involved as e-watchman themselves. Or alternatively, Czar, if you are reading this, please reconsider and edit out the names.
E-watchman deserves a chance. You are taking that away with little or no thought to the consequences.

Any research on Fred Franz?
by Spudinator injust curious if anyone out there has done or knows of an extensive biography of fred franz.
since he was such a pivotal person in the wtbts it would be interesting.

Hey Shotgun, no hard feelings here, I can understand. The link that izobcenec gave is good as far as it goes. That book covers four presidents of the Watchtower Society. What I am looking for is just specific to Fred Franz. Personal and detailed. You know, stuff that reveals what he was really like as a person. Not the mythological oracle of the society. Ideally, his nephew Ray will step up and write such a biography. But then maybe not, I remember hearing F. Franz piped in to the Ogden, Utah District Convention in the early 1980's. He was very much "over the top" if you know what I mean.
As far as stuff the WTBTS has documented about Brother F. Franz, you can save yourself the trouble of looking it up, unless it is in publications prior to 1950. Thanks for your responses.

Just curious if anyone out there has done or knows of an extensive biography of Fred Franz. Since he was such a pivotal person in the WTBTS it would be interesting. I know that the Bible Students are writing a biography of Charles T. Russell and Alan F has said that someone is writing a bio of J.F. Rutherford. Fred Franz seems worthy of note. After all, for those of us over 40 years of age, he pretty much defined the JW-ism we grew up in.
