My pioneer wife looks at me half way thru and says "so if ONLY the GB are the FDS, then ONLY they are appointed over all things? I'm confused". I just looked at her with a blank, I have no idea stare.

Passing a resolution a painful experience
by stillin ineverybody knows it's going to pass.
nobody ever asks if possibly that much money for the circuit overseer's whatever isn't a bit too much, or whatever else the congregation is being asked to agree to.
then the call to raise your hand if in favor of doing the "right thing.

I don't have he guts to say it, but our cong can't afford a higher contribution. I just saw our accounts report for last month, $0.31 left in the account at the end of the month. I wish someone would raise thier hand and ask if we can currently afford to make this resolution.

Due to Oct 5th WT Biz Meet all meetings for that week are cancelled
by illoowy ini was informed that due to oct 5th wt biz meet all meetings for that week are cancelled,.
i asked if the mid week meeting was also and was told yes, because of the assembly.. it seems there's an overload of theocratic alternative banqueting feasts available so.
that the regular menu at the kh is not necessary for that week.

WATCHTOWER IN A PANIC!
by JW GoneBad injws are in need of more kingdom halls in many major u.s. cities.
at this years agm where it is expected that most of the faithful will be able to listen to the meeting (being tied in by video), dont be surprised if the wts 8 gb members take part in a symposium delivering some long winded appeal, petition, plea, proposal, proposition, solicitation or otherwise hit-on the masses for $$$ in order to lighten the burden and overuse that many kingdom halls are experiencing.
an acquaintance from the west coast mentioned to me that in late august thru early september of this year that a number of pow-wows involving close to 5,000 elders from numerous areas (riverside, los angeles, ventura and orange counties) took place to drum up financial support from the 800+ (not sure) congregations in those areas.

That "household donation survey " is not new. About a year or two back, when we remodeled our hall, a similar from was passed out. It was not an official society form. Just something one of the local brothers typed and copied. It was small, like a time slip. Almost word for word as quoted above.
They then tallied the slips (in private) and decided on what size loan we could afford.

I am an active JW, MS. I have a talk about every other week. Was raised a JW. My wife is a reg pioneer. So why am I here?
Well, as I'm teaching my 6 year old daughter our beliefs I started thinking. How do I know this is the "truth"? I mean, what I veil was taught to me by my dad. I'm sure he wouldn't lie to me anymore than I would lie to my girl. But if she is going to grow up hanging on every word I teach her, then I have a responsibility to make damn sure I'm right first.
How do I know if what I believe is right? I guess according to my teachings I'm supposed to read the bible, and study my publications more. But I am now asking myself, how does reading the same side of an argument over and over PROVE that it is true? Don't you prove something by contrasting it against the opposing side? But we are not allowed to do that are we?
So, out of duty to make sure my daughter is correctly informed, I have to come here to take in opposing viewpoints.

What's in it for them? (GB)
by SyntaxError1974 inif the wbts is just another business?
then what do the gb get out of all this?.
tim cook (ceo apple) makes around 378 million a year.. donald trump makes around 60 million a year.. i understand the wbts may have vast property holdings, stocks, bonds, and revenue from donations.. but i can't grasp the incentive for the gb to make this stuff up.

I am still "in" , active MS. Yes I know, "breaking all rules" being here. But, Im at crossroads and feel I can't make an informed decision with only half the facts. On this site I see some who are "attitudinal apostate". That is every other word is a personal dig or insult to WTBS or GB. From my perspective it's hard to swallow.
But there are others that are "informational apostate". Instead of spewing insults, layout reasons, facts, proof...
I come here to read that. Now my head is spinning with millions of questions, and not enough time to research the accuracy of them all.
so that's my background. And I'm left with the question;
If this is all a sham, someone on top must know. It's not the elders. They are blindly following. My dad is an elder, so I know. So then, who knows this is a scam? Who profits from it? I these guys (the GB) are nothing than snake oil salesmen, couldn't they make more money in other ventures? Take a salarie? Live in a mansion ? How do they cash out? A CEO makes a ton of money, and has something to leave his children as inheritance. What do they get?
Either they are scamming us and secretly raking in money. Or they believe it. Otherwise, why do it?
my head hurts....possibly over thinking here....

IF the WBTS IS just another business? Then what do the GB get out of all this?
Tim Cook (CEO Apple) makes around 378 Million a year.
Donald Trump makes around 60 million a year.
I understand the WBTS may have vast property holdings, stocks, bonds, and revenue from donations.
But I can't grasp the INCENTIVE For the GB to make this stuff up. Do they believe this stuff themselves? Are they secretly cashing out financially somehow?
