  Their reasoning is that the bible says not to take a brother to court.

  Yes, and here's the scripture they use to back that up:

  1 Cor. 6:7

  7 Really, then, it means altogether a defeat for YOU that YOU are having lawsuits with one another. Why do YOU not rather let yourselves be wronged? Why do YOU not rather let yourselves be defrauded?

  But they ignore the preceeding verses:

  1 Cor. 6:2-6

  2 Or do YOU not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by YOU, are YOU unfit to try very trivial matters? 3 Do YOU not know that we shall judge angels? Why, then, not matters of this life? 4 If, then, YOU do have matters of this life to be tried, is it the men looked down upon in the congregation that YOU put in as judges? 5 I am speaking to move YOU to shame. Is it true that there is not one wise man among YOU that will be able to judge between his brothers, 6 but brother goes to court with brother, and that before unbelievers?

  So, was Paul counselling brothers to stay out of "worldly" courts? Or rather, was he chastising the "elders"? It seems to me that he was chastising the "elders" because they were either too stupid, incompetent, or unwilling to deal with problems in a just manner. The "brothers" probably felt they had no other recourse but to seek justice elsewhere.

  I think the child abuse problem in the watchtower is disgusting, and that's why I DA'd. I'd like nothing better than to see them bled dry in lawsuits.

  is anyone participating in the silent lambs campaign where they're sticking the flyers in the doors of kingdom halls?

  i'm seriously thinking about it, but i'm going for the gusto!

  How can I get ahold of one of these lists?

  They used to give them out to each family in my halls. I put all mine in a database so I can easily print mailing labels.

  Any current JW should have one for their hall.

  I'm sure most JWs are now aware that there is a child abuse scandal. There have been cases discussed in the news, TV programs, and I recall at least one letter that was read to the congregation. If they are unaware it's by choice, because they choose obey the society and refrain from reading or viewing critical material.

  I think most flyers left on cars would not be read. Either they would be removed by the attendents at the kingdom hall, or people would throw them out without reading. Even if some were interested in reading, they may be coerced by others to immediately throw out this "apostate" material.

  I would sooner distribute information to people's homes. In private there's more of a chance someone will read it. I'm sure many of us still have the "congregation association lists" that can be used.

  In my first congregation in the mid 1980's there was an elder who refused to have a TV because he didn't want to be "materialistic". He didn't want to invite "demons" into his home either. Another elder counselled him and told him he was unbalanced. So elder1 took the counsel and bought a TV, the biggest, most expensive one he could find. He got cable with all the specialty channels and a VCR too. He even had some porn flicks. heh heh. He inadvertently put one on when my wife and I were visiting. Boy, was he embarassed!

  But the elder who counselled him was right; he was unbalanced. He went from one extreme to the other simply because one person spoke to him about getting a TV.

  In that congregation elders often counselled me because of what they perceived as "financial problems". I was doing ok; I just wasn't going on tropical vacations twice a year like everyone else in the hall. In my last hall I was counselled for being materialistic because I inheirited a small, modest bungalow with a mortgage when my father died.

  As long as you allow people to meddle in your personal affairs you can't win. It's your life - YOU live it, and don't explain yourself to anyone!

  Maybe they are afraid that you will raise your hand, comment and say something stupid or inappropriate.

  Or maybe they're afraid something truthful will be said, which is even worse.
