I'm a aunt.....woohooo
by morty in.
after a long struggle for my little sister to have a baby, she is now a proud mom to a 7lb 11oz baby boy...i am so excited....just wanted to share my happiness for her...you see she was told she would never have a baby because of cancer...after many, many miscarriages her husband and her were finally told they would have a baby..she had a tuff pregnantcy..she was bed ridden for the last 2 months and had shots of steroids every day for the last 2 months to get the babies lungs growing.
( due to the fact they thought she would go real early because she started labour 3 times...but 3 times they stopped labour) mom, dad, and baby are healthy and happy.they go home in 2 days and i cant wait to hold my first nephew...thanks for reading and sharring my happiness.

What books did you study?
by Nosferatu inbefore you got baptized, what were the books that you studied with your bible study conductor?
the "essential" one that i studied was the live forever book.
when i was a child, i had to study my book of bible stories, great teacher, and your youth (twice).

I studied the "Knowledge Leads to Everlasting Life" Book, after that and lots of ass kissing, I was "allowed" to be baptized.
The more I think of it, how can man determine if you are "ready" in your heart to be baptized. I know that you are supposed to have knowledge, but isn't love for God more important than doctrine?

Would you do this?
by Been there inwould you pee for someone to pass a pee test for a new job?
i was asked to do so.
i could pass with flying colors.

Just to add, many of other "drugs", anti-depressants, etc...can actually make your drug test turn up positive. I have a few books on interviewing and in each they have a section on drug testing, I wish I could remember it all off hand :(

What does your name mean?
by Insomniac inok, i'm sure this topic has been covered before, but i'm new here, so indulge me.
what do everyone's screen names mean?
some are pretty self-explanatory, but a few have me intrigued.

Well Garnet is my Birthstone, but it also means "Fiery Ember" - I can get a little Fiery when I get angry...but no sweat...it takes a real lot to push these buttons. My real name means "Strong", Mom says she picked that one out on purpose
Just curious, does anyone have an Avatar for Dummies instructions? I tried to download one off the net and it never showed
Thanks!

How many poet's are among us?
by codeblue ini have been thinking about that lately.
the last thread i started, william penwell wrote an excellent poem, which i enjoyed tremendously.. i have been writing poetry since i was 8 years old....i also write songs.. so how many of you are poets/and or song writers?
have any of you published your works and if so....any help on finding a publisher?.

Hi CodeBlue
I have been writing since I was little...never had anything offically published, but I did write a poem about a friend who died from drinking and driving and the local fire department uses it every year around prom time. I hope it touches some people so they aren't that stupid to do something like that.
In high school I had started a novel, it ended up being tossed out accidently one day while cleaning :( I have yet to start writing again.
I will share one with all of you...it's a little silly, but I was young and had to write a hyku for school:
Little winged green fly
Flying so innocently
Gets sqaushed by big truck

Good News and Bad News
by cruzanheart inhere's the good news: after six years of working at night so we didn't have to leave the children with people we didn't know (or, worse still, witnesses), big tex got a day job!!!!!
his law firm decided that they didn't want to lose him -- they knew he was interviewing for day jobs -- so found him a spot in the daytime.
we signed the kids up for the school's after-school program, which is excellent, and it is so incredibly wonderful to have him home at night!

Nina,
My heart goes out to you . You can never be prepared to hear something like that from your doctor. Just curious, why can't they just remove the fibroids? Are there any other options? What about a second opinion? Usually a Hyst. is the last option - my Dr. actually presented that to me (and I was only 21 at the time), now I am on some heavy duty birth control to balance my hormones and to control the pain.
Glad to hear that Tex will be home at nights :) My husband was going to work 3rd shift, but finally found an alternate. It will be so nice for you to have him home! Plus the kids will love it!
Good luck to you and keep your head up :)

My JW Friends reaction to the Vicki Boer press release
by shiloh ini forwarded the press release to my jw friend yesterday afternoon and we talked about later that evening when i saw her.
i could see that she was confused and somewhat bewildered.
she first wanted to know more details about the case itself and when i supplied them, she became even more confused.

You are very strong for going through everything you have been through. Please keep your head up, you give other victims the strength to continue their lives and move forward.

% meetings attended by those here still JWS
by stillajwexelder ini am still a jw -- i am down to about 30% meeting attendance -- for those here still jws what % meetings do you attend (approximately)?
sorry if we have had this post before
-
Garnet
I havent gone to a meeting for over 3 months, honestly dont even know when I last attended.
Only a handful of friends from the hall still contact me...one lives 1/2 hour away and the other 2 email me to see if I am okay. Other than that, not a peep. Not sure how to handle the "fade", I just stopped wanting to serve a man made organization - I felt closer to God before I became a witness, now I just feel I am never "good enough".

Opa! Celebrate your heritage!
by cruzanheart inthis weekend is the annual greek food festival, sponsored by our local greek orthodox church, and for the first time i'm going!!!
mom, who is greek, and dad never let me go because to participate would be giving money to bad old babylon the great, and i followed that stupid rule after i got married too.
well, no more -- we're going to the food festival!.

Cruzan, that is way cool! I am from a proud line of Italian's - giving up all the traditions when I became a witness was so hard. I had everything, I used to even carry a pendant of St. Anthony (oh crap..may have been Christopher) around with me...knew all the dancing, cooked all the foodm etc... I havent been to the feast in YEARS. I hope you have a good time and eat lots of yummy food for me! I feel like I am starting to come close to my heritage again, I am sure you can relate, don't you feel "at home" and proud of your blood line when you go to events/gatherings like a feast?
