  Witnessing in Prisons.....

  i'm just curious about this, and the prison baptisms---never knew much about it.

  they can only meet with people who have expressed a desire for someone to come study with them or who choose to attend their group.

  This is the same in the prisons in England. And the prison chaplains quite often make it difficult to even meet up then. Bible studies often take the same format as a legal visit, although its been 4 years since I know of this happening(I started the study myself). Prisons have very complicated rule covering every aspect of prison life, and unless you get to know them well you can find it very difficult to get anything done.

  Disagreements between elders

  there seems to be a lot of local differences between what witnesses are allowed to do and what they aren't.

  i'm in a situation where elders in one area are incouraging a course of action, and elders in another area are totally against it, saying it is a disfellowshipping offence.

  anybody been in a situation where elders disagreed like this?

  i remember the stink caused in the congregation when the sweets 'skittles' were released in the uk.

  they were advertised as containing 100% natural flavourings and colourings.. the problem was, the dye they used in the red skittles was cochineal.

  cochineal is made by pulping the dried bodies of a mexican beetle and produces a vivid red colour that has been highly sought after in the past.. i'm not sure where the issue arose, but some bright spark decided it was against the blood policy to eat this as the beetles hadn't been bled before they were dried and crushed.. the congregation was in an uproar.

  I'd forgoten about this! There was also the 'monkeys blood' topping from the ice cream vans that was meant to be made from the same thing. Do skittles still have this as an ingredient?

  I could really use some advice

  he said neither can i. he told me he doesn't want to break up with me.

  i know we have to break up.

  4 years ago I had a similar sort of thing when I got divorced. It still hurts now. The biggest thing I needed was closure. I spent quite a while waiting, wanting to know whst was going on, but I couldn't get on with getting my life sorted out until I knew for definite what the end result was going to be. It just extended the hurt process for me. I can understand him wanting time on his own, but personally, if anyone went with somebody else when we were on a break like this I wouldn't take them back. I would just keep thinking 'are they going to do it again'.

  I made sure I kept myself busy, didn't play any music, and took myself off camping for a few days to get some thinking of my own done.

  I hope it all works out for you in the end.

  How many of you went to the elders when you / someone did something wrong ?

  i've read a lot of threads of late, where people stated when they did something wrong they would go the elders the next day and confess.. i find this truly bizzare !!!.

  okay, maybe i didn't have a conscience as a jw, i did alot of things wrong, but, that would be the f--kin' day i would go to the elders and confess anything.

  i would never tell those old goots anything, because then they would have something to hang over you for a long time.

  I went to the elders and confessed, but only because somebody else had found out what was going on and if I hadn't of they were going to. I figured that it would go easier for me if they thought I'd gone volountarily. I still didn't tell the full story, just the bits that the other person knew.

  Witness sayings

  as i was growing up in the troof.

  there were sayings used over and over again to control my behaviour.

  the biblical on bad associations spoil useful habits and another on just because everyone else does it doesnt mean you have to do it to, would you jump off a cliff just because other people do what were the sayings that bugged you?

  it can indeed happen that different elder bodies can disagree over a matter, and sometimes, the CO has to step in and mess it up more solve the problem

  What happens if both CO's bcome involved, still disagree with each other so the DO's are contacted about the matter?

  his congregation publicly reproved him, and her JC committee wants to disfellowship her. Since they are both guilty of the same sin it seems unfair.

  Or how about this one; Two JC's from two different congregations, circuts and districts investigating the same matter. Her elders found that there was no case to answer, where my elders disfellowshipped me. How fair does that sound?
