What did you have for Christmas dinner?
by GrreatTeacher inmy inlaws are polish, though my husband is a 3rd generation american, but the food traditions have stuck around.. we have christmas eve dinner starting with red beet soup with sour cream, pierogies filled with mashed potatoes or saurkraut, ham, polish sausage sliced and cooked with saurkraut, turkey (that part is american), krischickies (likely spelled wrong) which are crispy pastries dipped in powdered sugar, and apple pie (also american.).
there are goodnatured threats toward bad children who may need to get their dupa busted (butt spanked) and therefore santa will bring figismachen.
i also love golabkis (ground beef and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves), but these were not served this time.

My in-laws are mostly Jewish. We usually go to see relatives who do huge cookout with various dishes. This Xmas we had filet mignon and bunch of side dishes. In Czech they usually make a carp with potato salad. My grandma used to bake a duck or geese for Xmas, stuffed with apples and served with sauerkraut and potato dumplings. -

What's the status of this org financially?
by megaboy insoooo... i think the main strength of this group is having the finances to keep this con game going.
i'm hoping that the pedophilia cases are draining them dry so we can be rid of this stumbling block from an organizational stand point.
how is the constant surge of bad news getting out on them effecting the everyday person in this organization?

I talk to my family regularly, and my mom is generous donor for past 40+years. I do not control her finances, so it is her money. But both my parents and siblings think that WT money are gone as someone had drained the finances. Local WT had sufficient funds for its maintenance and other expenses, but these funds were looted out/transferred to HQ two years ago. Now, they elders are visiting people and asking for contribution. Last month one of the elder harassed my mom for contribution. She was in surgery and she was not going to KH for six week or so due complication, and she did not donate. One of the elderly woman in my mom's KH sold her house, and donated the money to WT and moved to public nursing home/elderly community home. Either way, WT is somewhere bleeding; its operations are too costly, or their financial portfolio is not doing well. One of the problem I would see that the Global Recession of 2008-2013 is finally catching out with them with shrinking donations, and higher operational costs. -

Elder harassed my mom and asked for donation
by kaik inmy mom had surgery last month and she developed complication and had to be on antibiotics to treat infection.
so, she is recovering slowly, but things was tough on her and she was not attending kh or went to assembly two weeks ago.
nonetheless, elder showed up at her place and instead providing her with comfort he started to harass her that her faith is weak, she does not put trust in jah, etc.

So, my mom is now attending with the family even if they have to travel and pick her up. I talked to my sibling and everyone was pretending like nothing had happened. But damn, my mom continue donating again. -

- Renew a gym membership. I used to be in excellent shape and run up to 20 miles per day. I was capable to bench press my own weight. However, school and work killed my free time. I will be done next spring, so it is time to go back to gym.
- Travel a bit more. There are couple places I would like to visit next year.
- Get use of my xbox and ps4
- Renovate either bathroom or kitchen. I am putting it off for a while.

The worst gift of Christmas
by GrreatTeacher ineverybody gets one, the gift that stared up at you hopefully from its beautiful wrapping, and then, like a deflated balloon, delivers the worst gift ever.. i'm not talking about the gifts from small children like the "greatest aunt" coffee mug or the red and black lace folding fan.
surely you never would have chosen them for yourself, but it's the thought that counts from small people who love you.. then, there's the what the hell were they thinking gifts.
my mother-in-law has been giving these a lot lately.

I would say a book, which I would not read, it takes a shelve space, and than I am forced to share my opinion what I think about the author. -

Considering that many JWs in industrialized countries are boomers who are in early retirement, I would expect that they will ask for any retirement account and pension these people have. -

It is well known that JWs are one the most homophobic group out there. Muslims until recently was not known for homophobia, they were eventually groomed to it by Islamic ideology. Until 18th/19th century, gays in Muslim world had much better chance for social acceptance unlike Europe. Various travelers and court observations in Islamic world prior colonization were well aware of tolerance of gay subculture in Muslim countries. Ottoman Empire or Mameluk in Egypt had well established career rise for men to sleep their way to the apex of the power. This changed with Wahhabism and colonization of ME by English law that criminalized same-sex relationship. Many sultans, viziers groomed a harem of young men for gratification in the 15th through 18th century. -

Lisa, it is funny, because my cat does it as well. He can jump up to six feet high. I have paw prints as that high on the wall. The most annoying things he does is opening cabinets. He knows where is his food, and when he is hungry, he starts openning the cabinet. He will go on his back paws, and pulls the door toward him. I had to childproof all the kitchen cabinets, but he figured how to open them as well. He will than continue riding the door by pushing it forward and backward on his backdoor and slam it, until he get fed. However, he is heavy, so he managed to break the hinges. Additionally, he loves fire. I think he is pyromaniac, because when I turn fireplace he can watch the flames for hours. -

My kitty is so attached to me that he walks me out to the door and cries when I leave for work. When I am on the backyard, he follows me and has to be on every window to see me. If he does not see me, he is very, and I mean very vocal. The funny things about him, he does not like guys, but loves women. He will regularly growl on my male neighbor, but he will let my female neighbor to pet him and lift him up. When my mom stays, he is all over her. When she leaves back for Europe he cries for several days for her. It is like having a small child.
