I wonder about it as well, but entire my family is in the cult.

Why Are You Here?
by Believer ini'm wondering why believers remain members of this forum which is clearly hostile to believers.
as one member said, nonbelievers pounce on any semblance of belief like piranhas on prey.
as former jws we should have had our fill of judgmental know-it-alls, but here we are.

slimboyfat joins the Mormons!
by slimboyfat ini know that some people on the board have experience of being mormons, so i would be interested in your feedback.
at church this afternoon it was an uncanny experience.
in the past i've read a lot about mormons, so i thought i was prepared in general for what it would be like.

My experience with Mormons are generally that they are racists, anti-semitic, and homophobic. Not all of them, but I noticed it in the presence of gay, black, and Jewish people. I had Mormon boss, and he was good, but again, there is a difference I observed when they dealt with a white guy and others.

Is this the best you have to offer. Trump / Clinton?
by Lostandfound inhere in uk we have appalling choice between cameron / corby and some also rans.
are trump/clinton best the worlds superpower can offer up?
all candidates for office seem to be flawed , are no genuine people putting themselves forward?

I am here with Lisa. I will be voting for Hillary, but I do not want her having a president. Possible Trump policy are far more disastrous for mankind. It is enough that Putin and China wants him to be a president. They know why. Trump will weaken NATO and American alliances, and would cede control of Eastern Europe back to Moscow. China is hoping to continue with bilateral trade which is one reason for economic imbalances in the world economy and benefits only handful of rich industrialists in USA while American workers suffer.

Protest
by Coded Logic inhad a great turn out today protesting against the baptist minister who praised the orlando massacre.
my best guess is there were around 1,200 of us there.
it was an entirely peaceful protest as we chanted "love conquers hate" and "we are orlando".

Nice job, but I believe it will have an opposite effect and this temple of hate will attract more followers.

Proof that Daniel was written 400 years after the events it describes and how much it gets wrong
by purrpurr ini've been studying the bible anew and have just realised that the writer of daniel gets the kings of babylon completely wrong and confused.
he says that nebuchadnezzar was succeeded by his son belshazzar .
then along comes good old cyrus the great who liberates the jews.. yet this is wrong!

The Book of Daniel is not located among the other prophetic books in the Hebrew Bible. It is found among the writings, like the books of Ruth, Samuel, and Kings.
Daniel is not one of the Jewish prophets. We have an official list of men and women who were prophets to our people, and Daniel was not one of them.
Absolutely correct. I was surprised it when my Jewish spouse and MIL explained to me that Daniel is not a prophet. It was good eye opening from WT indoctrination.

Love is Greater than Hate
by Coded Logic inthis week has been a really difficult past couple of days.
waking up to the news on sunday that some jihadist jackass had slaughtered so many of my lgbt brothers and sisters left me reeling and in tears.
we're a community with common cause and a common struggle and it's immensely painful to see the loss of so many young and beautiful lives.

I hope you will get enough crowd to demonstrate against this temple of hate.

I read about her that she was a mother of 12 and was very accepting of her gay son and took bullet for him. Very remarkable woman.

Differences Between Ex-JWs
by David_Jay inwe are not all the same--a real "duh, david!
so i figured if i didn't feel that sense of solidarity that seems missing among the debating, then i was part of the problem.
i'm responsible for making this place feel like a support and place of solidarity, just as much as anyone else.. but approaches i tried didn't work until i shut up for a while.

I met bunch of ex-JW who I wish I never met, and were rather terrible people to begin with. I met some very nice ex-JW people. Generally, I found the slight negative in both within WT and outside WT community by ratio 60/40. Many ex-JW carry the superiority complex, the feeling to be chosen, after they left WT, continue to preach others, and always trying to proof something, and telling someone how their view/beliefs/experience is right and everyone else is wrong.

Islam is a religion of peace (2)
by Coded Logic inin behalf of the horrific events of saturday night, i just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that islam is a religion of peace.
it doesn’t matter that the quran explicitly says that homosexuals should be stoned to death (7:84) - it’s still a religion of peace.
and it doesn’t matter that the scriptures say that all gay men should be killed (sunan 1:152) - islam doesn’t in anyway condone violence.. it doesn’t matter that every mainstream imam calls homosexuality a sin "worse the adultery" - it’s not a religion of bigotry.. it doesn’t matter that 61% of muslims in the uk think gay acts should be made illegal - islam has nothing against the gay community.. it doesn’t matter that countries with sharia law actively persecute the lgbt community - islam is all about peace and love.

From what I've seen, they haven't posted any comments in support of the Orlando victims and their families.
I live below Dixie line in a former Confederacy and certainly the Red Belt does not give a rat about the Orlando victims. Fox news posts are full of hatred against the victims and I can compare to VTech shooting, which was far more covered story than this at that time because it did not involve Latino gay and lesbian community.

Adam Lanza was mentally ill. The Orlando shooter behaved under religious impulse. He had clearance or public trust position according to news and there is no indication he was mentally ill. He justified his action with his religion. Not much different from SS who burned Slavic villages from Czech to Russia down to Serbia because their National Socialist ideology considered Slavs inferior.
