i will probably use this line in my bible highlights tonight!
it's from the 5/1/1950 wt article " a christian use of material wealth.
the money which is contributed by persons who accept the printed bible-study helps from jehovahs witnesses aids quite a bit in keeping the work going.

do you think this is a fairer system and brothers who have never gotten a chance at being elder will finally get it since it's up to the co to decide?
how do you think that's going to work?
do you think the favoritism will go away or be marginalized?.
The CO's will still be dealing with the body's recommendations most likely.
So I don't see much difference being made unless the CO throws his new-found weight around.
Have to wait and see what the new procedures will be.
the gb can kiss my ass.. i'm writing "0" on the little slip of paper they pass out.. hey here's a thought:.
you know that "widow's might" stuff they're always talking about?
well i'm pretty dang sure that the lady was giving from the heart not because she filled out some dumba$$ piece of paper pledging two small coins several months previous!.
Captain Obvious,
Thanks for the report. That was a brave brother to field any questions at all. I can't believe he did frankly. If the brother in our hall had taken questions it would have been quite a scene considering how poorly he explained it.
tornapart,
I agree with your hubby wholeheartedly.
Data Dog,
That's freaking unbelievable. What's up with the "Soliciting money? Absolutely not!" as they plainly do just that! Craziness.
Also strange to see the words Gospel and Grace in the text. So some things change and some things don't (like soliciting for money).
Thanks for the post.

JTG,
Direct Debit??!!!!!???!!!
Can't wait to see that survey! Thanks for the report too. It's hilarious how this is playing out everywhere.

Inbetween,
That confusion sounds just like how it felt at our meeting.
Bobcat,
I honestly can't believe those brothers handled it that way. That is absolutely wrong to expect people to come up with a number on the spot.
Not only is it completely a guilt trip along with social pressure, good luck getting numbers the brothers could actually use. Nobody wants to be seen writing a small number. The real contributions will be 1/4 of that total no doubt.

in the last couple of years the org has gone money crazy, selling off over a billion dollars worth of property and now a new tithing program.
just wonder what every one thinks is the reason for all this now?.
I would add that the elders could still be linked to the wbts through the CO since they manage and direct the CO.
While it does add a layer of distance, it may just be to dump the workload/responsibility on the CO. That frees up man hours at the branch and all that pesky praying over the hundreds of appointments and deletions. Lol

It sounds like some congregations asked for the total amount a person could reasonably afford to donate to the local box each month.
Then from there the elder body will decide on an amount to commit to for the kh construction/remodel fund.
That sounded more reasonable to me and after looking at the letter again, it may be what the branch meant to begin with.
...
With that said, the most disturbing part of the letter may be the encouragement of any cong's with surplus funds or funds set aside for major projects to send the money to the branch as they will now be financing these projects.
People are funny when it comes to money.
Sister "got-an-inheritance" that gave $100,000 to her personal hall for a major renovation may not take kindly to it being shipped off to New York and joining the collective coffers.
Just sayin'

Hey Terry what are some drills to repair rational thinking?
Or for that matter what can be done generally to repair it or help it progress?

Can someone post here a copy, scan or sketch of the WT survey that is being passed out to heads-of-households?
Thank you. - JW GoneBad
I would, but our hall just passed out a mini sized index card. It didn't have anything on it.
Maybe some others can?

Thanks Stirred and Goingthruthemotions for the updates.
I talked to a couple of elders today from other halls and found out how things went at their meeting and how they were going to proceed with this new arrangement.
It sounds like the elders are approaching this very cautiously and looking to report a conservative number to the branch regardless of what the members/publishers report on their slips of paper.
I think that's funny. The branch is looking for an increase in revenue, but it sounds like they may not get as much as they are expecting.
One of the elders said their body is just going to take the average of what they were sending last year to the kingdom hall fund and send that.
They know they can't count on the publishers to meet their pledges. LOL
It's interesting. When it comes to money, people tend to be able to think for themselves a little more easily.
Doctrine...not so much.
