how much did your congregation and its bank account get taken for?
share your horror story!.
Our hall gave 2500 one time and 250 a month.
Our hall isn't a big fish.
They actually went backwards a bit with us since we had some money up there at the branch in their FOD program (either "funds on demand" or "funds on deposit") that we needed back to have the 5000 cushion we supposedy need now.
There is a local congregation here that I know had over 100,000 in the bank from selling a hall years ago. I look forward to hearing about their situation in the coming weeks. We have assemblies coming up as most everyone does. I will be asking around.

i've seen more threads and comments in the last week about the "demise of the wt" than in some time.
several were on threads about the donation arrangement and how its going to backfire in some way on the wt.
oh and the lone elder who was pissed in some sort of passive-aggresive manner about it when he presented the resolution.
In time, the religion will become less relevant as more JWs find out about their hidden history on the internet. JWs will join their place along other numerous sects and groups that nobody thinks much about. - longhairgal
I totally agree.
Many that are still in, I would say thousands, are trying to figure a way out that brings them the least amount of emotional/financial damage.
I am in that category.
There is much attrition ahead in the coming years.

The story is a little odd.
I don't get the training for missionary work and visiting other congregations combined with working a part-time job.
My first thought was they trained for the circuit work but then it was mentioned of her part time job.
So was she a pioneer and her husband was a substitute CO?
Were they just a couple of pioneers with a husband that gave outgoing talks occasionally?
Hard to put two and two together with the reporter's choice of language.
With that said, who knows a what "kissing" includes.
Hey, dont get me wrong, I love to bash the org, but there are as many questions as answers here.
Can anyone offer any further clarification to this story?

dear brothers:.
we are writing as a follow-up to the letters dated january 24, 2014, and march 29, 2014,. to all congregations regarding the adjustments now underway to accelerate construction of king-.
dom halls and assembly halls.. .
Here is the follow up letter and the thread that discussed it:
Resolutions are being passed in all the Congs for the one-time donation and the new monthly commitment.
We have a die-hard elder with a martyr complex that was consistently voting for bigger amounts to be sent to the branch.
I voted for 0 to be sent and the lowest proposed monthly amount. The zero didn't fly unfortunately, but the minimum monthly amount stuck.
Remains to be seen what will come of all this.
It will be entertaining. You can see the problems coming.

how much crap can any rational human being take before they just snap & walk away disgusted?.
Which, of course, begs the question, "Which does the WTS deserve more? The former? Or the latter?" - Vidiot
Good point.
I would rather see the quick end myself for my own purposes and also to see the revenue dry up quicker.
But the other way is interesting.
Their hopes and dreams would slowly get crushed as they scrambled to try and stop the slow bleed...(commence evil laugh)

In your opinion, how many current Dubs would leave the Borg, or at least stop going/contributing/preaching/etc. if the disfellowshipping rule was eliminated? Like many others on this site, I do not believe the current numbers provided by the Borg, and I didn't believe them 20 years ago when I was an elder. Your thoughts kind sir? - DJS
Hard to say, but my first thought is the organization would be cut in half within 5 years.
It is the biggest control device they have. Eliminating it would open the door for an exit of current members and diminish their ability to hold on to new recruits
I don't know how much the numbers are inflated, but we know they are at least to some extent. In our hall, for instance, the secretary calls anybody that doesn't turn in time to try and convince them that maybe they forgot about informal witnessing to somebody and could turn in an hour (or 15 minutes if infirm/elderly).
Many will pick up the hint and "remember" an hour or two. The elders are motivated to do this so as to not get scolded by the CO when he comes by and sees 6 new "irregular" publishers.
Of course that stuff is nothing new.
Actually, I was surprised to see them report an increase in partakers this last year. I thought for sure they would lie before reporting an increase the year after the "annointed" were demoted. LOL

I think the basic loyalty level (to the GB) is dropping.
More JW's seem to know not to take things completely seriously coming out of the Watchtower. (doctrine could change next month)
Now I'm not saying that it's everybody, just a lot more seem to be waking up a bit.
.
You don't hear out-and-out complaining of course because that is not allowed. But you see it in how they say things now. You see it in their body language.
There's a hint of frustration, a rolling of the eyes, an underlying, "Well I better look out for myself, then, since they don't have jack figured out."
It's not much, but its something.
And, again, they will have more time to think after this glorious 2014 year passes without anything significant to look back on other than down-sizing, increased control policies, and money grabs.
There is a lot of pressure on these International Conventions to provide a distracting spiritual parade.
People are impressed by crowds, so it will work to a certain extent, temporarily.
.
The loyalty level is bleeding, though, under the surface.
Of course that explains the desperate grab at power, control, and money that is going on now.
I think the GB knows the jig is up (at least long-term). The shunning policies are the only thing slowing any bonifide exodus.
It will be a slow and agonizing death, unless there is a huge, public scandal.
It would be so cool if there was an Enron/Madoff type scandal to give all the doubters an excuse to run for the door!
