(I guess Jesus wasn't an intolerant religious bigot.)

well, we survived the first month at least!
yes, the new forum is now 1 month old.. of course there have been some issues and i'm grateful that people have been patient while i worked on them.
a big thank-you to everyone who's been patient, have provided useful feedback or just been willing to adapt to something new during the transition.. i've also made some improvements along the way and am fairly happy with how things are from a basic functionality and performance perspective so it's time to start looking at some of the new features i've been planning.
Nice to have the freshen' up. Thanks for the hard work.

i have a friend who is an eldub and he just completed elder's school!
what did he learn?
as far as i can tell, he learned:.
Iam scheduled to go but haven't yet.
So this is what I have to look forward to:
1) Guilt
2) Fear
3) Fear
4) Guilt
Sounds like par for the course. It's such a good ole boys club just with religious overtones. Basically it's like there's an unspoken agreement. The Org. will prop up elders and tell the flock elders are used for a special service by Jehovah - if the elders agree to follow their rules and respect the chain of command. It's a "We will stroke your back if you stroke our's" kind of thing. I mean it is palpable when you are in those meetings.

i was thinking about being "brought up in the truth" as opposed to joining.. as a child's brain develops, it builds connections based on what it is taught.
these connections are inseparable from the person in that our thoughts and memories actually become part of our personality (who we are).. a very simple example, might be being taught *not to do something* because it "displeases jehovah".
the understanding of right and wrong is then set in the child's mind and built upon.. there are several points of thought i have about this fact.
We take in a lot of info growing up and afterward. Some of it is contradictory and we usually default to the explanation that came from trusted authority figures. Once we determine that the authority figure was our drunk uncle Rutherford, we allow the other observations to float up to the surface. They were always there, but dismissed and unsorted. It's a long process, but one I believe is doable with enough patience.

if you sacrifice your life for something - that is devotion to the highest degree and can in certain context constitute worship.. .
as has been discussed many times on this forum, the blood doctrine of being willing to sacrifice life to honor a symbol of life (blood) is ludicrous (see this excellent thread by cofty http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/273265/my-explanation-why-they-got-wrong-about-blood-using-only-nwt?page=1).
it is also idolatry.... .
matter of stupid ignorant bible interpretation - fink
Cant argue with that. LOL
I don't think it's a huge stretch to say it's idolatry, though. Sacrificing lives on an alter to Blood.
Wacko crap however you slice it.

if you, like me, have noticed the sudden increase in hysteria in the khs right now, i put it down to that jw tv site.
its's far more extensive than i thought it was, i thought it was just 1, 1 hour program a month.
there's a s*** load of videos on that site.. and the real problem, from just watching a clip from each video, is that these guys are clearly "mentally unstable".
For the record I haven't watched a broadcast yet. I just can't stomach it. I passed through one of the hall broadcasts and my blood pressure shot up at the sound of tony turd's voice. Something about "well who is dropping these kids off at university?" like university students are 10 years old. I got out of there.

It is supposed to be for those in the cong that do not have internet. There was a BOE letter that came out suggesting to either have a once a month showing of the broadcast at the hall or to invite these ones to the friends' homes (with internet) to watch it . Since nobody wanted all these crazies at their house, the body chose to have a showing at the hall.
Like there isn't enough to do already. It shows though how much they want everybody watching the official broadcast. It wouldn't surprise me if it started getting incorporated into the meetings.

i was sitting at the meeting the other night and for the first time it hit, jw talks or magazines are never uplifting!
i rarely, if ever hear a talk or read a magazines and have it give nothing but praise to jehovahs servants or just praise jehovah and jesus throughout it.
they never just a read through the bible or just a bible story explained or told.
oneeyedjoe - I remember a talk like that from a CO recently. Too bad it's like a drop of water to a starving man in a desert.
Notice this reference taken from the Pioneer Meeting outline this year:
w13 8/15 21 par. 12 -
12 Shaming an individual by making unfair comparisons with others, criticizing him by setting up rigid standards, or making him feel guilty about not doing more may motivate him to a spurt of activity, but the results are only temporary. On the other hand, giving a fellow believer commendation and appealing to his love for God can have a lasting, positive effect.—Read Phil. 2:1-4
This was a reference in the outline to instruct pioneers on not comparing one publisher with another in a section about being encouraging.
Too bad the WT doesn't listen to its own advice.

they had an unprecedented opportunity to build up 1 million JWs all at once, and they squandered it - oneeyedjoe
I agree 100% with this and what toesup said. This could have been a "Sermon on the Mount" moment, and he talks about bright socks and tight pants. It is not only telling of what they have to offer in the way of actual spiritual enlightenment, it is just plain stupid. You have over a million people (customers) willing to listen to you, and this is what you talk about. You couldn't make this stuff up.
