yes, today is the forum's 15th birthday!.
i never thought for one moment that it would survive this long or have so many people post so many great subjects over the years.. it is still humbling when i get pm's or emails from people expressing how the site has helped them and of course thanks goes to all the posters who have shared their experiences and make helpful and supportive comments to others who are in the sometimes difficult process of learning the real truth about 'the truth'.. the site has gone through several different incarnations over the last 15 years running on different platforms, different databases and different hosts but we've been able to keep all the old topics.
the current site is still being developed and i'm hoping to push another major upgrade soon.. i also may have some other news to share soon about the future of the site so stay posted.. until then, here's the the next 15 years!
Good job Simon and congrats.
I have greatly benefited from the discussions here.

great report by abc on the abuses in jw-dot-org land.... i hope it opens a "floodgate" of future news reports and exposes.
if you ask yourself, "why hasn't the watchtower leadership changed their policy on the 2 witness rule?
if one or more persons on the gb has victims out there that can't come forward because of the 2 witness rule, then that would explain the permanent road block to policy change that is obviously in place.
I think it is obvious that the refusal to change the painfully illogical 2-witness rule for child sexual abuse is for some incredibly selfish reason that leads to further and further abuse of innocent children.
The GB's "indirect" connection to children being abused is undeniable.
When an organization insists on strange, left-field policies that make child molestation easy to get away with, the organization is taking a stand as a pedophile sympathizer and enabler.
The next question is why?...... I am aware of the business reasons often stated. It doesn't take much imagination to think there could be more to the story.
Simon, my apologies for posting anything that causes trouble. I accept full responsibility.
The GB have to accept full responsibility for the consequences of their policies. One of those consequences is "wild" speculation as I have offered the OP.
I admit that the subject is an emotional one when you think of heartless men forcing themselves on innocent children. If these emotions have clouded my judgement, and I have under-appreciated the power of Greed as a lone explanation for these policies, then for that I apologize.

OEJ,
I see your point and it's a good one.
The two witness rule for child molestation just seems like a "hide-behind-scripture" rule to protect pedophiles. So it invites speculation as to why anybody would protect pedophiles ever...
Hope your day gets better...

If you ask yourself, "Why hasn't the watchtower leadership changed their policy on the 2 witness rule?", here is the simplest explanation in my opinion: There are molesters in the leadership of the organization, namely the GB. If one or more persons on the GB has victims out there that can't come forward because of the 2 witness rule, then that would explain the permanent road block to policy change that is obviously in place.
Given the pompous, delusional, power-tripped state of mind of a governing body member, it isn't a huge leap to think they would take liberties with an underage boy or girl and feel they are entitled.
Any normal, rational, caring person wants to protect the children of their group and would craft rules and regulations for that protection.
I don't even buy their whole "we would get sued by the pedophile" excuse. It's all about covering up for self-serving reasons. Yes it protects the PR image of the organization, but I think the cover-up goes much deeper than that.
It's just an opinion and I know I'm not the first to postulate it, but it deserves mentioning.
Often the simplest explanation is the right one.
What do you think?

i found this comment on a yahoo article re same sex marriage and i happen to agree with it and thought i would share it.
of course there are others that can be added if you specify what's wrong with jehovah's witnesses but i think this list is a good overview.
would anyone else care to add anything to this list or comment?
11) Jesus Death?
A son going away for less than three days and then coming back doesn't qualify as a "sacrifice" to save mankind...
It doesn't even qualify as Spring Break.

have lurked here for many, many years.
female, latina, middle-aged, born-in, 3rd generation jw, northeast usa.
my fate is to continue to play the game 'till death do us part because the very strong and tangled web of friends, family, business, etc.
Welcome.
We are in the same boat. I am an elder stuck in. The less I believe, the more I move up in the organization. Unbelievable. Wish you the best.

when you had to start dumping your worldy friends ??.
just curious that's all.
not being a witness ( ubm here ) i think everyone has known a jw kid and at a certain age " my mommy won't let me play with you ".
I would say around age 8 it started to become an issue. I would be invited to the skating rink or a pool party. Couldn't go of course. If i pushed too hard it would turn into - "Why are you so involved with these worldly school friends?"

i am sure we have all seen the recent letter to the boe concerning the change that will take place to the meeting arrangement during the week of the co visit.
to recap the basics: the meeting that usually contains the cong bible study (book study) and a co talk will be discontinued, publishers are encouraged to use their family worship night that week to cover book study material.. so here is a point that i think has been missed, or not even considered:.
if that particular meeting is hereby deleted from the schedule, the co and his wife will never ever have to participate in or go to another "book study", or "bible study" night again.
Faye,
Yes I would say it has made it colder. The closeness isn't there and cliques are more common. The field service groups are a pitiful alternative. They only meet for a few minutes once a week, and there are always those that can't meet or have to work on sat. etc.
Oh yeah - and no "Treat Night"! That at least was something remotely normal and enjoyable.

the borg might not fall and disappear, but it's sure heading into the oblivion.
they predicted their future in last week's study.. last week during the cong book study they mentioned the following:.
15. to illustrate: a supertanker or a freight train might be awesome in terms of size and power.
They can keep it going a long, long time IMO. The buy-in is astonishing to this new building program. The sheep just line up to do whatever they are told. They think they are doing "God's Work".
Even the ones that can see the profit angle just write it off as "supporting the work". No thought is given to the fact that an organization truly backed by God would not have to engage in such money making endeavors. They should be flush with cash from miraculous sources.
Oh well.... this is the result of indoctrinating people week-in-and-week-out. They will continue to indoctrinate and they will continue to control the minds of this small religious group.
Growth is another thing all together, though. I think growth is already pitiful and the trend will continue south, but they can survive on flat growth or small decreases for decades.
