whether the Jewish or SDA Saturday, or Sunday, the Pope has a point
by nonjwspouse ini keep liking what i hear from this pontiff.
he lamentes not keeping a day of no work to spend with the family.. .
campobasso, italy (ap) pope francis has lamented the abandoning of the traditionally christian practice of not working on sundays, saying it has a negative impact on families and friendships....... at one point, the pope, speaking off the cuff, encouraged parents to spend more time with children.

Interesting concept modeled after the Scriptural Shabbat or the set-apart day of rest.
At least back in Constatine's time they did close businesses and limited trade when the day was moved to Sunday. Sadly today the government has yielded to the greater society that wanted to shop and work on Sunday thus businesses opened and have slowly increased hours of trading. Hard to turn back time.

A suggestion for Fading Dubs. STOP SINGING!!!
by DATA-DOG inwhether or not you realize it [ many of you do ], words have power.
think of the power of the human voice.
think of a beautiful song, or a symphony.

What I did was took a quick glance at the words but while singing replaced the Jehovah with Yahuah and the Jesus with Yahusha. Didn't say the English word of Christ.
Still mostly truth there, but skipped on some of the more greyer portions of the song based on the doctrine.

The Scriptural Meeting JW's Don't Have
by metatron indo you ever read in your bible about a "service meeting"?
how about the "theocratic ministry school"?.
the society has to reach back into the ot to justify its assemblies and conventions, as with national holidays in ancient israel.. yet, there is no official modern-day version of this:.

Well if an entire day of rest is not observed, as in that #4 Commandment and the JWorg has opted to continue with Russell and Rutherford to not do anything for the 6 other appointed times . . . . why bother with some NT feast?

GB's letter regarding UN membership - How Do You Prove Them Wrong?
by will-be-apostate ini was reading brant jones' experience (published on jwfacts.com).
i read both letters: the one he wrote to the gb and the one he recieved from them.
link: http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/experiences/brantjonesunresponse.pdf.

As previously posted, the JWorg was expected to have some articles promoting the UN. In this case from 1991 to 2001.
So by comparing the Awakes before 1991, then those 10 years, then 2001 to current there should be a noticable trend of pro-UN articles duing that 10 year period. It would be needed to abide by the NGO requirement.

Are witnesses the best behaved people in the world?
by speargrass55 inhi everyone, i was discussing with a family member recently and was encouraged to at least consider the benefits of being raised in the truth.
for example,i'm not a drunk, don't do drugs, respect others etc.
the point is i've found lots of nonwitness friends who have similar behavior.. growing up, when a worldly person does something good like help someone i'll hear things like "that's nice of him, for a nonwitness.

May not be the best behaved people, but in generally rank high on being polite, considerate, and helpful compared to other groups of Christians and non-Christians.
It would be hard to find another group that has such a level of orderliness and devotion to a set of doctrine/guidelines that are generally seen as supporting society's values. Or in other words, a typical JW will dress nicely, have a clean house, not cheat others, be (mostly) truthful in talk, not do drugs, not get drunk, etc.

yhwh
by Crazyguy inwe have been told that this yhwh is the symbol for gods name and that they the jews didn't use his name because it was so special.
history shows that the name was banned for a time before the maccabees and after it was to sacred to say.
there is a problem with this idea though and that is, in older writings of the name dating back to around 1400 bce in egypt the name yhw was found and yhwh was also found on a moabite stella also very old.

In all that I've seen, it is an abbreviation from anything like Yahweh, Yahovah, Yahuah, Yahuwah, etc. and also a source toward Jehovah and other linguistic twists (sounds new to modern languages like the J, V, and W).
It certainly is better to use a YHWH based name than LORD or God or similar title. Better also than a modernized version of YHWH. I was comfortable with Jehovah during my 19 years of studying with them, but they prefer that accepted (and established) name instead of a more proper YHWH based one.
In my studies, YHUH is equivalent to the YHWH (U compared to the Germanic W) which leads to Yahuah as His name.
It is up to us to make the truth our own and listen to His voice.

I enjoy ISR's The Scriptures, which uses the Hebraic approach to a more literal translation of many manuscripts. I have both the 1998 and 2009 to hold.
Occasionally I refer to Hebraic Roots Bible pdf by leaders at the Congregation of YHWH, Jerusalem
I prefer printed bibles, a second one I am considering to buy is the Messianic Aleph Tav Scriptures.
A lot of people use the power of the computer and can compare versions using e-sword.
The key is having a few translations and quiet time to read and understand. He will help during the quiet times of meditation.

The Last BOE!
by Atlantis inthis is the last boe we will be able to provide.
our informant or source, was caught, disfellowshipped, and thrown out of bethel.
we knew that sooner or later the watchtower would find him out.

Am sorry to hear about that, but he was brave to expose the "light" for all to see. A very brave person and I can envision he is now relieved to be out of there.

Aren't Jehovah's Witnesses really standing in front of the LIGHT and blocking it?
by Terry infolks are about as happy as they decide to be.. looking on the bright side of life gives you more of a foothold when things go awry.
nurturing hope builds a foundation for you which enables you to save for tomorrow and build toward the future and hang on when things get tough.. people dig their own graves when they become pessimists.
"why bother" replaces "that's worth a try!".

What an insightful post, thank you very much.
It is so true, that doctrine "light" for living will block out the Scriptural light for a joyful life.
It's like a cartoon I saw of a person sitting in front of a laptop, listening to headphones, a TV nearby, and radio and could not hear the Shepherd due to all the noise.
