Rutherfords influence on Church of God (7th Day) and Sacred Name Movement
by oppostate inhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/sacred_name_movementthe sacred name movement arose in the early 20th century out of the church of god (seventh day) movement, following on the preaching and ideas of joseph franklin rutherford who founded jehovah's witnesses in 1931 based on his belief in the importance of the hebrew name of god.

if the sacred name was so important, then why did God not tell Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? were they not "true worshipers of God"? -

Wow, how sad. On the other hand, they should have known or had an attorney look over things first before. people with this kind of money don't usually make rash decisions with their money. -

Why did Jesus come to earth? Invite to a DC
by Simon ini just had an invite to a district convention later this month in calgary (i guess they get to clean up the saddledome before the stampede, lol).. they gave me a leaflet asking "why did jesus come to earth?
" so i asked them "so why did he come?".
"well, he came to save us".

Jesus told us why He came to Earth.
Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
And they are going to take three days to say this?

What's the view by most Christians of the OT?
by jws ini know the jws believe that since jesus came, the mosaic law is null and void.. i notice many other christians seem to keep quoting the old testament.
there's even videos on the web with idiots screaming "don't take my 10 commandments" when a statue was being taken down.
even though i doubt these guys know the real 10 commandments in ex 34 (that were on the tablets), not the ones in ex 20 and would be hard pressed to tell you when was the last time they celebrated the festival of weeks or of unleavened bread.. i mean how can they scream about keeping the 10 commandment statues yet wear clothes with 2 types of fabrics?.

I personally do not think the 10 commandments are null and void. What I do believe is that the ten commandments were not something anyone then nor now could live up to. It is a measure that shows us that we cannot achieve them totally. It is to point out our flaws, I believe it was then also. We have to realize that with out God we cannot achieve perfection. Perfection against the ten commandments is impossible for us without the blood of Jesus. If you break one of the ten you break them all- James 2:10. Jesus added a little more meaning to the ten commandments when He said " it is written do not commit adultery, but I say to you if you lust after a woman you have committed adultery in your heart." Matt 5:28, as well as others. It is only by Jesus can we achieve anything,
Matthew 22:6 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [o]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

The Divine Name in the NT: Some Reflections
by Let go of fear ini've been fascinated with this topic for some time now, almost to the point of obsession.
after researching the issue for several years, i have come to a conclusion/theory that i would love to receive some feedback on.
this theory of mine is one that will be somewhat unsettling to both those who believe the divine name was used in the original nt scripts as well as those who believe it wasn't.

I stand corrected. The time frame when God's name stopped being pronounced was, according to :The Jewish Encyclopedia of 1901, Volume 11, page 353
"SIMEON THE JUST (): High priest. He is identical either with Simeon I. (310-291 or 300-271 b.c.), son of Onias I., and grandson of Jaddua, or with Simeon II. (219-199 b.c.), son of Onias II... After Simeon's death men ceased to utter the tetragrammaton aloud (Yoma 30b; Tosef Sotah. xiii.)"

It is very interesting that God's name was not spoken of by any Jew other than the Levi's, and even then it was only in the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur. I believe it was after the time of worshiping the golden calf when this practice came into play. From then on it was unheard of and blasphemous to be spoken out in public. How could Jesus and the early disciples, speak God's name and it not be mentioned in the Bible that the Pharisees would want to kill them for it? There is plenty of accounts where the Pharisees wanted to Kill Jesus and the disciples, but not for speaking God's name. No mention of even a hush-hush, or squabble about it. If this were so important for God to have everyone know and use His name, not only would He have preserved it within scripture, but it would have been made fact through Jesus.
None of this is is made known in the New Testament. Would the Creator of the universe need a group of men in Brooklyn to restore it in the New Testament? That is a slap in the face to God, making Him unable to do what these men did. That is really pompous of them to rewrite the Bible, and I am sure they are aware of what God has said about adding or removing from the Bible. I just don't think they care.

Do Kingdom Hall congregations communicate with each other?
by Faithful Witness inwhen asked, my mom denies that they do.... do local congregations pass along gossip or reports on householders in the area?
specifically, i am wondering if they might report on (unbaptized) family members that live in other towns?.
since the abrupt ending of my bs with miss k, i have not heard from the jw's at all.

oops, it must have missed the first part of my reply
I hear exactly what you are saying Clambake, I am in the same boat. My wife and her family are JW's but they won't "preach" to me. The are fine going door to door to speak with strangers , but not their own family? I know why, partly because their tricks won't work on me and that I would ask the tough questions like the one above.

Clambake,
" show me in the Bible where it states you need to report to anyone about your time in service?" Matthew 23:1-6;13 especially verses 4&5, explains the opposite.

Our only hope is found in Jesus. That is the only hope. He will redeem us, He will be our strength, we just have to trust and have faith in Jesus. We know the world is not going to save us. We know that we are not capable of sustaining the world. I believe the Bible is God's word, and it says to put our faith in Jesus. That is our only hope.
Galatians 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
