With all respect you didn't debunk anything. Some physicists believe consciousness has something to do with collapsing the wave function. A majority presently believe as you say that it could be a measurement device that does so. At this point nothing has been proven with absolute certainty.

As Richard Feynman said "If you think you understand quantum theory . . . you don't understand quantum theory."

Why be so insistent that you are right that you can't even comprehend why someone wouldn't have made up their mind yet?

I certainly do not claim to be any expert on quantum theory. Are you an expert?

Bohm, so you would like everyone to just adopt any theory that the majority of the current scientific establishment has? Hell, why even think for oneself? I guess I'll just accept as 100% truth whatever the government establishment says about anything as well.

No thanks. I won't confine myself to any mental boxes. As I said I haven't made up my mind.

I'm not sure bohm. I haven't made up my mind. David Bohm and coauthor Basil Hiley write in their book "The Undivided Universe" "

"Throughout this book it has been our position that the quantum theory itself can be understood without bringing in consciousness and that as far as research in physics is concerned, at least in the present general period, this is probably the best approach. However, the intuition that consciousness and quantum theory are in some sense related seems to be a good one."

Bruce Rosenblum writes in his book Quantum Enigma "Does consciousness collapse wavefunctions? That question, raised at the beginning of quantum theory, cannot be answered. It can’t even be well posed. Consciousness itself is a mystery."

I guess we'll have to wait for more information to come in and keep our minds open.

No one understands all the consequences of quantum physics.

Nobel prize winner eugene wigner said “While a number of philosophical ideas may be logically consistent with present quantum mechanics, materialism is not.”

I certainly do not believe quantum physics as presently understood gives irrefutible evidence for a higher power. Nor do I endorse all views in the video. I believe in keeping an open mind. There are many diffent views on this matter and to prematurely negate one view because it doesn't line up with one's worldview is quite rash.

Being a true skeptic is not only being dubious about things we don't agree with it is also questioning the status quo. It is questioning the establishment. Scientific thought has changed many times over the years and will continue to do so. To accept unquestioningly that current establishment thought is right in everything but perhaps a few details is quite short sighted.

Can anyone explain love?

we have had a variety of theist vs atheist debates on this forum.

usually, it devolves (or evolves?

) into a debate on what can or cannot be proven.. so let's step back a second.

Good points flying.

Most humans intuitively know that love isn't caused by chemicals released by the brain. These chemicals are correlated but are not causitive.

I would illustrate it like this. Suppose a skeptic remains unconvinced that the images appearing on a television set are coming from somewhere else. He believes they are due to the internal material components of the television set only. He messes with some parts and the images become fuzzy which strengthens his belief that they are only due to the physical components in the set. He moves another peice and a line begins to run thru the image. He cuts a peice out and all images stop. Because of his experimentation he now is completely convinced that the images that appear on the television screen were due solely to the material components and nothing else is necessary for them. As we know he only has part of the picture. Those images were streaming in from some other place but the physical components were correlated but did not create the images.

How to accept the actions of the Old Testament God

how are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.

when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.

when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.

If a christian has an open mind he will have to agree that how Jesus described God is quite different from how God is represented in the OT. The problem is when someone takes the bible to be infallible. Then he tries to completely reconcile what Jesus said about God with Jehovah from the OT. This can not be done.
