Immediately and actively shunned when family realized I wasn't going to meeting and wasn't going to talk about it. Cong had already effectively shunned us just because. It was the coldest, most judgemental and divisive congregation I'd ever been in. That was the reason I was finally able to escape. My family let all my oldest friends know I needed to be shunned.

New to this site....
by TanCatLuvr ini am so thrilled to find this forum.
it is such a relief to know that all of us 'apostates' are normal people who had the nerve to question what has been crammed down our throats.. i am 4th generation ex-jw with family members at bethel, doing missionary work, and pioneering.
even though i have been out for almost 20+ years, i still had guilt admitting to myself that this was a cult-like organization until just recently.

You'll find many not in any religion, or with entirely different beliefs. Some are athiest, others agnostic, some born-again, etc. All are welcome here!

Fish and fowl are not vegetables! That's just cutting out red meat. That would be pescatarian or... fowlatarian!

I think going vegan would be a bit much to begin with. Try a good cookbook like one of the Moosewood cookbooks or Laurel's Kitchen.

email fwd from my mom: utter BS..bet the sheeple eat this crap up and MY REACTION
by SnakesInTheTower ini received this crap from my jw mom today.
i hope it doesn't "encourage" you to go back .
you see, when i left, i immediately felt the relief of not being burned all the time by all of the gossip that occurs within the congregations, circuits, etc.

I wonder if this started our as an illustration, as in getting a "G" for illustrations in the ministry school. Ich - I really don't like remembering all that!

I think my mom would have had trouble with this. I know there was a faint desperation in her as she got old. She and my grandmother came into the "truth" in the early 1950s because my uncle and grandfather had died and they wanted to see them again in "paradise" and also had great fear of death for themselves. There have got to be people who are in who are desperately trying to hold on.

"I love the line He evidently meant?!? Why are you putting words and exagerated convoluted meaning into what Jesus said? "
Amen. This is lukewarm swill; when will the members get sick of swallowing?

If the Watchtower truly collapsed, how would you deal with your JW relatives?
by nicolaou inimagine the best case scenario.
the watchtower society implodes from within even making final printed admissions that it is voluntarily dismantling it's mission and legally dissolving the corporations.
oh happy day!

Directory
by Outaservice inhaving been out of the organization for 20 years now and having visited/attended a few churches since then, i've noticed that most have a church directory listing the regular attenders, members or not.. this is handy in trying to learn about various ones in the church, and in the event you want to send them a card, invite them over for a meal, and or a host of other reasons.. i always wondered why directories never existed for various jw congregations?
are they afraid of mass mailings of jw's that leave?
cannot the 'truth' stand up concerning everything they teach?

Why are they so paranoid?
Because if the end comes you don't want the list falling into the wrong hands!
And, you might also want to use it for something social; that's not allowed.
