It's unnatural to shun family; the borg has to keep harping on it. The natural inclination is to seek out those you've bonded with, your kin. I recently had reason to speak to one of my sisters and her kind heart wanted to come throug. When she reads this, she'll probably feel guilty that she was nice to me. Sick.

They're in an area outside of Bay City, WI.
I talked to my other sister in MN who gave me a few details. It's the loss of the pets that I think is the most upsetting to everyone. I found out they are insured so will be able to replace most everything. Of course, there are some things that are irreplaceable, some of our mother's things.
It was interesting to talk to my other sister; she was very upset by everything, especially the cats. She's the one with a big heart. She talked to me at length and quiet endearingly. At the end I told her I loved her and she answered back that she loved me, too. If there was hope for either of them, it would be her but she's so close to my uber righteous sister. I guess I'll try to stay in touch a bit more. I can handle rejection!
I think the sister that had the fire is still pioneering, has been most of her life. She went to WI as a special pioneer many years ago. Diest, I don't think I'll ask about her hours; she finds all sorts of ways to count time!
I'd be interested if any of you in WI heard about this.

She and her husband live in rural Wisconsin. They were away for their anniversary when their home burned down, killing their three cats. They lost everything. I'm trying to get details, haven't been able to find any news online. The info came from my youngest daughter. (I'm completely shunned since fading long ago.) I will help out where I can. I can't imagine what it must be like to lose everything.
It's mind boggling that she wouldn't contact me, her sister, because I'm out of the org.

One of my first traditions was to buy each of my children an ornament as a Christmas present. My daughter will have her first Christmas with her new husband and I'll give her the ornaments that have been collected for her over the years for their tree.
Our first tree was decorated with those inexpensive, colored glass balls and I still have a few left, along with felt ornaments the kids made for that first tree. We didn't have a tree-topper so my daughter used a cookie cutter to trace a star out of yellow felt and I've been using it ever since. I would not replace it for any fancy tree topper!

I really loved them both! We were shunned when first simply missing meetings and becoming inactive. (My family are uber-righteous). Since we were already completely shunned, we weren't worried about being found out. The kids loved it; me too.
This is where shunning backfires for the borg. If my mom would have been in contact with us, it would have been harder to leave.

Update on roommate situation, I moved out found my own place:)
by andys inhi awhile back i posted about my asian roommate that is from thailand, i made a decision to move out of the house and now am in my own apartment:) i feel that i will be able to much more better control the situation if jw's come to the door, that one time seeing the watchtower and awakes laying out on the coffee table was enough to cause me too much anxiety and now am happy to be on my own and since then the anxiety has gone down and am more relaxed, also something else i learned having a roommate was not the most biggest cost savings, i might even be able to save more money being on my own, it got frustrating at times when i go and buy food and half the food i buy was eaten now i don't have to worry about anyone in the frig in my food:) and another plus am closer to work, work is only 1.5 miles away:).

Your LAST door
by RAYZORBLADE injust curious.
would anyone like to share, if they feel like it, their memory of the last door they ever knocked on?
i was with about 3 or 4 other people, all sisters.

I don't remember my last door but remember the last two times "out in service" and thinking I couldn't keep going. I'd talked to several really nice people who weren't interested at all but were kind, didn't want to be mean. I realized I just couldn't accept that they'd be destroyed just because they didn't want to listen. There were other things going on in my brain, but this was one of the last nails, so to speak.
So glad I'm out as are all my kids!

I was in the middle of a staff meeting at the study-abroad office at the University of Michigan. Our assistant director got a phone call from his wife saying she'd heard the first tower was hit. Most didn't believe it. After the meeting, I went to the ground floor of the student union where big TVs were showing everything live. Surreal. We dealt with panicked parents and offered to bring home their kids from programs if they wanted. Only one had their student come back.
My ex husbands wife calle me wanting to know what to do for him. Though we'd been out of the borg for several years, he thought the big A had begun and was not able to function. He shook for weeks (literally trembled) before he got over it.
My daughter and spouse were visiting from Europe and wondered when they'd get back home. We watched TV together.
