I have a question(s)

i am new to the site, although i have been a lurker for quite some time.

i was very nervous to create an account.

all of the people i work for and with are jw's and we are all family.

The above statement is so true. The only regret I have about leaving, is that I waited so long to do it. Some have been able to do the fading thing, but I found it excruciating. With so many dubs around you, it's unlikely that you'll be able to just fade away. The hardest part for me was that you basically have to hide everything about yourself, to maintain the facade of simply being weak.

Went to a Public Talk and WT Study, after about 5 yrs away.

it was boring,,snooze city, there were room for a bout 200 and they didn't have more than 40 in attendance very few youths mostly older ones(30 and beyound).

i didn't have a clue what the speaker was saying thank god i came a 1/2 late, those poor poor people that have to sit thru such mind numbing drival about how we are to treat people in the congregation and not to be jealous bla bla bla.

the wt the reader was drone the conductor brain dead and every body answered the wt by practically reading their answer word for word from the wt,, it was pitiful,,pitiful.

I just don't understand the creationism/evolution debate. It is obvious that the creation account in the bible is allegorical. Who's to say that God didn't use the process we call "evolution" to create the world we see around us. Why limit God to some sort of hands on, cell by cell, construction of every organism. It's as though the creationists feel that learning science will produce godless children. I was raised a j-dub, out now thank God, and I always loved science. Most of my teachers and professors were hard core evolutionists, and quite a few were atheists, but I never saw a conflict between God and evolution. It took the watchtower to cause me to consider the possibility that God may not exist.

what if the watchtower announced that they are not god's sole channel of spiritual truth?

along with this admission, would come an apology for all of the misleading and damaging predictions and past teachings.

what if they also dumped the disfellowshipping arrangement, as currently practiced, and allowed for respectful disagreement and disent, on issues such as blood transfusions and military service?

My thought exactly! Even if the watchtower had the courage to change, I don't think I would ever have the desire to return. As some have mentioned, my experiences within the organization have caused me to examine my attitude toward religion and God. Couple that with the damage that the organization has caused in people's lives, and I see no reason to go back to, even a reformed, organization. And like damselfly said, if all the teachings were changed, as stated in the original post, there would be no reason for those that you love to shun you anyhow.

In other words, would you be willing to return to a more tolerant and balanced "organization"?

I find that I really don't care that much about some of the more theological/doctrinal issues, such as hell fire, eternal soul, etc.

i was speaking to a friend last night, trying to explain why i don't go to meetings etc,(waste of time though she just can't seem to understand my point whatever i say), anyway she said as long as i don't d'a myself she can still speak to me.

she said they only d'f you if you commit a gross sin.

i refuted this saying if they knew i didn't agree with some of the teachings, sent a fathers day card etc and you weren't sorry they'd get rid of you.

Your friend is completely wrong, as you probably already know. I was disfellowshipped purely for my disagreement with watchtower dogma. And I wasn't sharing my feelings with others. They learned of my beliefs by grilling me during "sheperding" visits, and disfellowshipped me after meeting 3 times for approximately 45 minutes per visit. This after a lifetime of service to the cult. It just kills me how deluded people can be.

somewhere in my head i recall someone saying that since there was no proof or record of them being baptised that the so-called (the jws word) "christians" who died in the lion's pit were therefore not of the 144,000!!!

how do the jws justify there not being 144,000 true christians from 33ce to 1900??

They knew the world they lived in was rotten and they were listening to the message of the Christians and willing to die for it even though not in line for the high calling in Christ Jesus.

This reasoning is no different then the pharisees claiming that Jesus expelled demons by the power of Satan. Some how, they had enough faith to die for Christ, but they were "not in line for the high calling in Christ Jesus"! How sad and delusional.

DC Drama: Mosaic Law == Being a Witness

at the district convention this year, they did a bit about how jeroboam didn't want the 10-tribe kingdom going down to jerusalem, so he tried to set up calf worship and his own set of festivals, etc.

Case in point, there was a skit where a brother was browsing for news reports about witnesses, when suddenly he stumbles upon an apostate site! "Oh NO!" he hollers. Big laugh from the crowd. "I'd better turn off my computer right away!!"

It is truly astonishing, how childish the reasoning of the watchtower is. "I'd better turn off my computer right away!", how ridiculous. Most adults would simply click on another web page, upon coming to a website they found objectionable. The same is true of the drama, and the application of the information contained in it. Jeraboam establishes calf worship in the ten tribe kingdom of Isreal, God's nation has been cut in two by a rebellious and violent insurrection, and the societies application is, don't miss the Friday program. Throw in, "always listen to God's appointed servants", and you have the application to every drama the society has ever produced.

I do think that MOST people are lazy.

This is thinking worthy of the watchtower, and other fundamentalists. It allows you to dehumanize, in a sense, the subjects of your post. It's ironic that the watchtower would make the same argument, that "MOST people" are generally lazy, about those outside their organization. I don't think Jehovah's Witnesses are intellectually lazy at all. The problem is, their intellectual energy is directed, by the watchtower leadership, in one direction. I know I did a lot of study and research when I was in, and I knew many who did the same. However, because the study was mono-directional, the value of the time and effort spent was greatly diminished. The lack of consideration for alternative points of view contributes to the diminished value of the intellectual effort. While all of this causes the witnesses to have a biased and unbalanced religious view, it certainly does not make them lazy.

This is not intended as a slam minimus. I usually get a kick out of your posts, with some thought provoking reflections thrown in for good measure. I just hate to see one narrow point of view exchanged for another.

Comment overheard after the session on Sunday

on sunday of the dc i was waiting outside for my wife (because i had no desire to enter).

we started toward the car as soon as she exited the building.. as we walked, i overheard one elderly sister saying to another elderly sister, "see?

the time is close.

Long-term, however, the effect of it's collapse would be the freeing of millions of people from a belief system that has kept several generations of individuals ignorant of the world around them, uneducated, poor and their families broken apart, and dysfunctional.

It gave me chills when I read this! The witnesses are really in a state of mental and emotional bondage. That bondage spills into the lives of those of us who still have friends and family in the organization. The collapse of the WBTS would not only free the millions who are currently a part of it, but it would also mean a return to us on the outside of those we love. Can you imagine the kind of relationships you could have, without the conditional love of the watchtower? That would truly be "good news"!
