Few years back I was wandering around the red light district in Amsterdam with a few mates. We were all complaining about work and life, when someone decided it would be a good idea to visit a peep show. After putting loose change into the "viewing booth" and opening the doors we saw a young dead-eyed lady laying naked on a bed. "What a lousy job", my mate said as all 5 of us tried to sqeeze into to booth. Only then did we notice what was covering the floor(!), so we made a quick retreat (...almost loosing our lunch) However shortly after our exit from the booth we noticed a elderly chap walking around with a bucket and mop and entering each booth. It didnt take us long to realise what this man was mopping up. Since then I've never complained about my job.

My two week consulting trip to Bethel (the beginning of the end) Part 5
by seven006 ini knew i had a bright mind, i had been told that my whole life.
she hated going out in service but since i hated it myself we didn't go do the door to door work much.
i look back now and i can't believe how controlling and un-loving that religion had made me.

only my mother on my side of the family is still a witness.
i receieved cards and phonecalls from all my family, even though we've just recently had a family death and most of them are aboard to arrange the funeral.. my wife's family are all dubs, and she is very close to her family.

Yeah , thats right...None.
I suspected this would happen so I made sure that the day was really special for her, but I couldnt help noticing that deep down they really hurt her.
Guess I'll strike them off my xmas card list....

Raised a JW... did you have a childhood?
by ignorance is strength inpersonally i was quite serious at a young age.. there was no "boys will be boys" growing up.
personally i feel kind of cheated out of a childhood by an organization that forced you to think that "everything around you was going to be gone soon so you better grow up, start publishing, and giving talks.
" did any of you experience a less than stellar childhood, especially because of the lack of holidays and socially-isolating religion gowing up?

My childhood was crappy before we bacame dub and got worse when we joined (I was about 6) However, we did move house to get away from all the bad association (i.e. My school mates) and was moved to a school that had a high dub population. That was hell on earth, but looking back, it was probably a good thing as most of my pre-dub mates are now either in prision, unemployable or just plain loosers.

Foiled conversion attempt!
by caligirl insomeone will be very disappointed tomorrow morning!
i am home on maternity leave right now, and this has given me the opportunity to meet people in our neighborhood that i might never have come in contact with otherwise.

Blondie,
I actually typed up a response to this (another excellent) post. While doing so, I kept thinking about Metatrons recent post on another thread :

Looking forward to next weeks...

If You Value Love, NEVER Become a Jehovah's Witness!
by metatron ini was observing my loyal wife sending out anniversary cards to other witnesses,.
as she has done for many years.
if we were ordinary protestants, we would probably.

Nail on the head. In a few short paragraphs you've described the reason most people here will NEVER return to that loveless way of life. Anyone who currently attends a KH, reads this post and doesnt question what they are doing has no one to blame for the years of loneliness they will one day experience.
This line of argument must be used in conjunction with persuading current witnesses their doctrines are wrong. Only then do we have the hope of saving these people (and more importantly their kids) from the kind of life most of us had to endure.
